John Mitchell says hello. I disagree. I would now rank Mitchell #2. Barr has managed to corrupt the processes of the DOJ in plain sight. I was at DOJ under Bush I with Barr as AG and while people may have disagreed with his support of the pardons of the Iran-contra defendants, no one could have foreseen his absolute disregard of norms and procedures that were a direct result of Mitchell's criminality. Barr will go down in history as the worst attorney general ever, worse even than John Mitchell, Nixon's Attorney General, who went to jail for his role in the Watergate cover-up. Am I being too harsh? I don't think so, precisely because none of us knows to what lengths Trump will go to preserve his power. Nixon was a crook, to be sure, but his crimes were personal, almost understandable when compared with Trump's. Nixon was paranoid but he was not the thorough-going narcissist Trump is and his sins were balanced by a deep knowledge of American history and politics. www.ncronline.org/news/opinion/distinctly-catholic/attorney-general-barr-deserves-impeachmentAttorney General William Barr is on a trajectory to surpass Mitchell, the previous A.G. corruption champion, who was convicted of conspiracy, perjury, and obstruction of justice, and went to prison for 19 months. www-vanityfair-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/02/doj-william-barr-has-been-weaponized-for-trump-payback/amp?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#aoh=15918860967837&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vanityfair.com%2Fnews%2F2020%2F02%2Fdoj-william-barr-has-been-weaponized-for-trump-payback

Can you name a VP pick that has moved the needle in any significant way throughout the history of this country? We treat the 2008 election as inevitable now, but McCains choice of Sarah Palin strikes me as meaningful. While that choice energized certain elements of the base (and you can draw a line from there to the current mess that masquerades as the GOP), it alienated a number of moderates and independents. I agree. Was going to suggest Palin but never got around to it. To me, it was an election-altering selection.

Any Republican in 2008, even a beloved centrist like McCain was running against a huge headwind. Throw in that Obama was young, dynamic and exciting and McCain was likely today. In large measure, Palin was an incomplete (and totally misguided) Hail Mary.

Anyone believe Trump's rally in Tulsa, scheduled for Juneteenth is a coincidence?
This has Stephen Miller's filthy fingerprints all over it. A dogwhistle to the part of the sociopath's base that embraces white supremacy.
BTW, 538 Trump approval this afternoon.
Disapprove 55% Approve 41%

And yet another example of Miller: Trump plans to accept the nomination in Jacksonville on the 60th anniversary of a race riot known as "Ax Handle Saturday". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Jacksonville,_Florida#Ax_Handle_Saturday

It should have happened 155 years ago, when Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, but maybe — just maybe — the Civil War is finally coming to an end. And perhaps Donald Trump, not Jefferson Davis, will go down in history as the last president of the Confederacy. Symbols like flags and monuments matter, because what they symbolize is our vision of ourselves as a nation: the heroes, battles, movements, sacrifices and ideals we honor. So when I see multiracial crowds toppling the statues of Confederate soldiers and politicians, when I see respected military leaders arguing that Army posts should no longer bear the names of Confederate generals, when I see NASCAR banning displays of the Confederate battle flag at its races — witnessing all of this, I let hope triumph over experience and allow myself to imagine that this may indeed be a transformational moment. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-might-go-down-in-history-as-the-last-president-of-the-confederacy/2020/06/11/590194e2-ac13-11ea-94d2-d7bc43b26bf9_story.html

Given Trump's falling approval among white Catholics, perhaps no one is paying attention. FAITHSHORT TAKE Archbishop Viganò is aligning with Trump to stay in the spotlight. Pay him no attention. James T. Keane June 12, 2020 Tweet: “So honored by Archbishop Viganò’s incredible letter to me. I hope everyone, religious or not, reads it!” A tweet like this from the president of the United States, especially a tweet widely reported on in newspapers and on social media platforms, may lead some readers to think that President Trump’s behavior and policies have been endorsed by the Catholic Church. It’s not true. In reality, Mr. Trump was responding to yet another public letter from a marginal figure, one who has made a growth industry over the last two years of writing increasingly paranoid and disturbing missives against Pope Francis, the Second Vatican Council and many other enemies real and illusory, including most recently against an imagined “deep church” that he told Mr. Trump parallels the purported “deep state” that the president has blamed for so many of his troubles. Archbishop Viganò's anti-Francis texts are often released in the United States in seeming coordination with a set of sympathetic publications and amplified by media outlets even further out on the political and ecclesial fringe. But who is Archbishop Carlo Viganò? www.americamagazine.org/faith/2020/06/12/archbishop-vigano-aligning-trump-stay-spotlight-pay-him-no-attention

By their nature, ramps are not both long and steep. Give poor widdle Trumpy a break. He was taking widdle baby steps. After all, he has the maturity of a toddler. It fits!

A childhood friend, who is a Monsignor, has a Friday afternoon chat with his parish on youtube, called one of the Cardinals "whacko" because of his view of the Covid-10 virus as a hoax. This cardinal seems to be in the Trump camp.
