IT'S A GREAT START, BUT WE NEED TO TEMPER OUR EXPECTATIONS WHILE THIS TEAM GROWS AND LEARNS TO PERFORM. ALSO, WHY ARE WE YELLING?

I'm excited for this game. I think LMU is a better team than their predicted 7th place finish in the coaches WCC preseason poll. The guard matchup should be good, with the senior guards of Batemon and McClendon bringing a lot of experience to the game. Batemon looks like a dynamic scorer and McClendon is reportedly a good defender. The big 7'3 Swede at the center, Markusson, should be a good battle for Govan.

I agree (I think that about Illinois, too), and I happen to think that's great. A tougher schedule is really going to help us come conference play. I'm excited about the possibilities of how well this team could be playing later this season if they get some real challenges thrown at them early. They won't be shell-shocked by playing tougher teams in a month or two.

Coming off a big win at Illinois and a few days in Jamaica I hope the team stays locked in and focused. LMU beat UNLV by 11 points.

Get ready to see a decent zone defense with some serious size in the middle. Hoya perimeter shooting is going to be very important in this game as it will not otherwise be easy to make the entry passes to Govan and Mourning. Also important to get defensive rebounds and get the ball out quickly against this team. What a contrast for the Hoyas from last game. LMU will play in slow motion compared to Illinois and has not shot well yet this season from deep, but they came back on the road against UNLV (no easy task) and made enough shots to win going away.

Dunlap is a very good X and O's coach. St. John's best teams under Lavin were in part the result of Dunlap's work as an assistant. He'll have some good ideas on how to attack our weaknesses and negate our strengths. This game should be a good test for the team, including Ewing.

Is anyone else terrified at this game as a classic “letdown” game after a big win? Especially with the game in Jamaica and PE as the unofficial mayor of the tournament and the main storyline?

That’s the beauty of our new players- there is no let down. Constant attack mode. Pat is bringing in hungry kids.

Not really ... I had to laugh at the "fireside chat" that John Fanta posted ... the clip where Jessie and Kaleb are getting their pic taken with some of the resort staff and Akinjo walks by breaking their b@ll$ ... I'm guessing he was headed into the gym to get up shots ...

It is always a concern, but I feel pretty confident that this particular group will not take anything for granted. I have yet to see James or Josh smile, Mac seems to go 100 mph every moment, and the older guys help set that tone.

I've said this before, but I think the most underrated factor in all of sports, but especially college basketball, is the personal work ethic of the players.
In all walks of life, it is vital in terms of improvement, competing and reaching potential. But in college sports ... the coaching staff is only allowed by NCAA regulations to practice a short time each week. It comes out to a couple of hours a day at most. As a coach, you have to use that to on game prep and elements of coaching that require interaction between the players.
That means things like individual skill development are largely up to the player to put in the time. To be the best in college sports, they have to do the 2 hour practice, and then the player needs to also work on their game. And at Georgetown, that means in addition to class.
When III succeeded, he had players like Cook and Bowman who were sick of losing, and he had an incredibly hardworking freshman trio of JW, Hibbert and Green.
We saw some later recruiting classes with high rankings fail partially because players stagnated. I think a lot of people place that on tactical plans, etc. But I think it was a lot to do with motivation.
I am excited to see the players come in be gym rats. Set the tone. That's how a team improves and outperforms.
