Just because I like seeing his name on the 1st page... The more talent we line up for next year the more attractive the situation will look for Ryan. Today was a good step.

Agreed. Building a solid recruiting class for Ryan to join.

He's coming. And so are others. Hoya Saxa. Is this optimism or based on knowledge? Hope you’re right regardless!

Is it just me or is the competition Ryan is facing subpar? Compared to nationsl competition? He's learning all the right stuff but, to me, the competition he faces is weak.

You could say that about at least 80% of all college prospects. Very few high level prospects that aren't at programs that play a national schedule play night in night out vs other high major talent. That's why college coaches love AAU because the prospects get to compete vs other college protects in every game.

It's probably what's kept him out of the top 100 so far.

I am curious, how does Ryan fare against elevated AAU competition and highly regarded big men? Does anyone know?

This same concern you guys are raising about Riley and Mutombo was raised about Mac when he was in high school (his so called competition). I told everyone (people on Youtube questioning his talent because of the league his high school played in) back when Mac was in high school, that it didn't matter his competition that the kid was very good.
I told everyone that he would do the same thing in college. I told everyone that if a player is good, he is good on most level. Plus with Mac, you could have used the eye test to tell he was going to be good in college.
I feel from what little film I've seen of Mutombo, that he will be very good by his junior year. I can see Mutombo dominating the interior once he gets stronger, bigger and works on his footwork. We already know that the genes are there. I think with him it's a matter of getting stronger and working on his inside game. Personally, I would like to see Mutombo playing the 4 instead of the 5 because to me he appears a little frail for the center position righ off the back. Maybe over time, he could work into the center position but not right away.
Now with Riley, I see a better version of Mac. In other words, I think he's going to fly all over the Big East opponents just like he did his opponents in high school. He gets a consistent jumper and just like with Mac, we will have another superstar on campus.

In other words, I think he's going to fly all over the Big East opponents just like he did his opponents in high school. He gets a consistent jumper and just like with Mac, we will have another superstar on campus. I think another thing to look at is what they do well. Like with Mac and Riley, you could see their athleticism translates. They are both excellent athletes, and Riley seems to finish stronger inside and I think has a higher vertical. He can jump out of the gym. I like Riley's handle and think it works for a wing where it is now, and can work for a guard if he continues to work on it. And his jumper looks good, it just needs reps. What he does well I think will translate to the college level. As for Mutombo, his hands and finishing around the basket should translate. Most guys don't have everything they do translate perfectly, but I think his abilities can translate. I agree he needs strength and to work on his footwork, but I like what he can provide on the low block. He's not an excellent athlete, but he can finish well and has very good hands, something I wouldn't expect him to lose in college. Nothing is going to translate perfectly (like same stats, the game won't feel just as easy as it did in high school, etc.) for anyone really outside like the top 5/10, but I think these skills translate for these guys.

Hope he makes the best decision for himself. The great question is do we "wait/hold" a spot for him or will the staff accept whoever wants to commit asap.

Another center for FSU. You've gotta think they're no longer in the running for Ryan

If there's a recruit ready to make a move to GU, the staff should pull the trigger. That shouldn't take away the 'family' feelings between Ewing and the Mutombo family.

The Class of 2021 center says he plans on taking his time with the process and won’t be deciding until late in his senior year. Given his father’s ties to Georgetown and Patrick Ewing, the Hoyas have a pretty obvious in here. That's a January interview. Wonder how that plan has changed with the pandemic and with a lot of the top players making their decisions sooner rather than later. The way this crazy off-season is going I don't think we'll have a scholarship available for the second semester, unless we have transfers. Plus, I don't think we'll have four centers who cannot stretch the floor.

There are always transfers though, especially with the changing NCAA rulebook. The only scenario in which there might not be room for Ryan if he wants to be a Hoya is if Coach Ewing manages to bring in a top 20 recruit like Holmgren, Reid, or Kepnang

He can commit sooner if he wants. I suspect many of them will hold out until year’s end and there will be a domino effect once a top guy or 2 commits and musical chairs starts.
