Anyone see Ryan going nuts all game rooting for the Hoyas behind the bench? Clearly, he grew up a Hoya and has the passion of his father.

Ryan at the power forward would create a young fearsome front line

Thanks for posting that LC. Sounds like Ryan had a great time and was welcomed like a member of the family, which he is. His visit could be the difference maker.

Yes...Deke did say he was a 7 footer. He doesn’t want to be compared to his dad... wants to be his own man. He can do that here at Georgetown...different team, different era...same amazing culture and values.

He would be a hero.

In 88-89 season I’m not sure how much Dikembe played. 89-90 we were a 3 seed and lost in second round to Xavier. 90-91 we were an 8 seed and played UNLV tough but lost in second round. Zo was hurt that years and missed games which hurt our seeding. He also racked up several touch fouls against UNLV and when he was out no one else could contain LJ. With zo in the game things were even. Have the game on tape somewhere in the basement. Would be great to have the younger Mutombo commit and help get us back to and deeper into the tourney.

Deke played a fair amount in 88-89 though I always thought he was underutilized in the Princeton game where he singlehandedly would have eliminated back cuts. He did block 12 (then a record) in the St John’s game that year.

And somewhere at this very moment Brian Kelly is taking a charge.

The UNLV game is the game that I officially became a Hoya fanatic. I can vividly remember watching that game as a 12 yr old and rooting for the Hoyas after watching a few of their Big Monday games the previous years

Robert Churchwell missed an open layup late in that game while it was still very close. That team made a heck of a run with a healthy Zo in the BET before losing to Seton Hall in the finals. Zo's 4 years were full of NCAA tournament exits earlier than anyone hoped. The lack of complimentary perimeter players in Zo's last 2 years didn't help. Losing David Edwards was a killer. I loved Brown, Churchwell, Morgan, Harrison, Stoudamire, Church and Harrell as players but none were consistent scorers. Stoudamire was maybe my favorite but he bolted the year before Harrison. That left them with basically zero shooters.

Didn't think it was a layup, but it was a shot he should have made. He was one of my favorite players at GU while I was a student.

I was also 12....Charles Smith is one of the reasons I played the game..

Pre-season #5 in country, ended season unranked and a #9 seed. Yes, they played well against UNLV, but the season as a whole was one of underachievement.
