Yeah less about the quality of that win as it about it being a win in general.

How is Chris Mooney still employed? Gotta believe the Spider faithful are none too pleased at the direction things are going down there.

This just reinforces to me we have to win every game left in non conference play, other than at the dome, if we have any delusions of tournament talk. I don’t care if they are all by 1 or by 25, but anything less than 12-1 against this schedule will not do.
Honestly, I fear there is bound to be another loss in this group of games though. Actually I think the next two leading up to Syracuse scare me the most in Richmond (coming off an embarrassing loss) and a decent looking Liberty team at 5-1.

From what I have seen at this stage in the development of this team, the Hoyas cannot take any opponent lightly. They could easily have three losses right now.

Agree, but they’re not last year’s team either. Akinjo alone will prevent a late game collapse.

I got to see the Howard guards at the Kenner game I went to. They were very impressive, especially since they were playing against our Akinjo/McClung combo. Howard hasn't set the world on fire but I really believe that is the sleeper early season game we should be wary of.

They got absolutely punched in the mouth by the Bruins last night. It was definitely UCLA's best performance of the season.

While it would be impossible to as bad as last year's schedule, this year's slate has proved to be a little better than I initially thought. Games against Loyola Marymount, Liberty, Campbell, and even Howard look better now than they did. Add in the games against South Florida, SMU, and Richmond, who are teams from legitimate conferences, coupled with true road tests at Power 5 schools in Illinois and Syracuse, and the schedule as a whole is not that far off from respectable (a low bar I know).
I think if we just had one more game (whether it be home, away, or neutral) against another perennially ranked Top 20 team (an Ohio St, Oregon, Florida, etc.) I think this could pass as a totally acceptable schedule. Would it put is near the top in SOS stats? No. But it also wouldn't be an RPI/Net Rating killer either, and would probably put us middle of the road. It would allow us to have a decent record going into BE play, but also provide some tests and keep our SOS from being a talking point.
Given our inclusion in the Duke/Texas/Cal 2K Classic at MSG next year, this is exactly the type of game or two I am talking about. Hopefully Pat and the staff are moving towards this, and we will closer to the JT III scheduling days than we are the JT II era. Given I think resume and computer rankings my be a moot point this year (hopefully I am wrong), it will be that much more important next year in my mind.

Given I think resume and computer rankings my be a moot point this year (hopefully I am wrong), it will be that much more important next year in my mind. In KenPom's SOS rankings, we're around 300 in Non Conference SOS. That's up from 351 last year, and the Cuse and SMU games, with 181 App State and two 200+ but not 300+ opponents in Little Rock and Howard, should probably edge us closer to 250. I'll take that for a solid one-year jump. And despite last year's 351 NC SOS, our overall SOS was 66 in the country. So even with a slightly down Big East, we should be looking good schedule-wise at the end of the season. Now it's time to get wins.

Next year should be better with the 2K classic, the big 12 and big 10 challenges too. Get some other good games in there and that's a difficult schedule.

Was just going to update - according to good ol wiki, FSN is YES in NYC. I think I recall some but not all "FSN" games popping on YES in years past, but we are down to five blackout games either way and I am certain at least the Butler games will be on something. One way or another, should know in ONE WEEK when the UMES game is slated for FSN. Will update how this goes... Per this post (http://hoyatalk2.proboards.com/post/793154) and the YES schedule (http://web.yesnetwork.com/schedule/index.jsp?ymd=20181009) the UMES game won't be on YES. By way of update on this issue, I turned in my cable boxes after about 30 years today. YouTubeTV has more sports channels than I have ever been willing to pay for on cable and I have seen all our games so far, though one was on tape delay. I set it to automatically record all thing GTown and, with unlimited cloud storage, I should have a pretty thorough database by season’s end. Will update again but YTTV seems to offer what we need, at least in the CT market. Hoya Saxa

I travel A Lot for work so as long as I have network/wifi I have full TV. Get all the games and record them on their cloud system. Love the unlimited storage. Only complaint is that the storage is only for 9-10 months and then deletes. You get all the sports channels you need and access anywhere in the country. I have all the BIG EAST games this season. Best value/decision I ever made....
