Stud. James won me over after his brief benching, ironically in the first MU game. He fought through some bumps in the road this season and showed tremendous growth. He hardly resembles the player from the beginning of the season and is exactly the point guard we all believed we needed to find last season.
For a guy who has to play the toughest position in basketball - unreal Great job! And he is not done yet!

Big East Freshman of the Year. Congrats to this young man. He has been great for the Hoyas all year and is very deserving. I see great things ahead for him.

I'm sure he's going to spend a lot of the summer practicing a variety of these shots.

I'm sure he's going to spend a lot of the summer practicing a variety of these shots. I think Akinjo will be a better Pick and Roll player next season. His experience of seeing how teams defend the play will really help and the majority of his pick and rolls this year were with Jessie, who people had to respect when he popped to the three point line, but has never been a hard, aggressive roller to the rim. Similar to with Josh, who rolled hard other rim, but was not respected when he popped out ( although that may change with a few more threes). I think Yurt next year will make teams respect both options which should make it easier for James to make better plays/decisions on those sets

He's already starting to use tactics to finish better. (not withstanding the falling asleep on the fast break and letting Hauser block him from behind).
He really can't go with his first move at this level because of the size and athleticism difference. He has to be crafty and go with 2nd moves like reverse lay ups and use the rim to protect against shot blockers.

He just needs to keep improving as an outside shooter and none of this other business will matter as much.

Congratulations young man. Had a hell of a season and reminded it us all of what PG leadership looks like. Can't wait to watch him and his game grow up on the Hilltop.
