Way to go, James! So far, IMO, Akinjo is the best freshman in the BE. He's got BE Frosh POY all sewn up, AND he has a great one-in-three shot of being the Hoyas best freshman!!

Overall, I would say Freeman/Wright were probably better, but it's closer than their recruiting rankings would show. The biggest difference I see is that both Freeman/Wright were significantly more efficient and shot better. Akinjo leads on assists over the bunch, despite the fact that Wright played in more of a pass-first offense. Freeman, in particular, was an excellent shooter, though. So, while I think Wright/Freeman were better freshman year, the more important thing is both of them got better their sophomore year. If McClung/Akinjo both do that we will be in very good shape. You can't discount that Mac and James are options 2 and 3 while Chris and Austin were options 8 and 5 (at best). Both guys were very efficient and did a great job of picking their shots. It'll be interesting to compare the two backcourts by the end of their careers. Just need to get Mac and James a Jason Clark like 3rd guy (either Anthony or Baugh would be great). Thanks for answering. I was looking this up before answering. Actually it's options #2 and #3 vs. #5 and #7. Mackinjo is more important and produce more in their freshman year than Austin-Chris. We would be so lucky if we're able to compare the 2 backcourts at the end of their careers, which would mean that Mackinjo stayed for four years.

Last 5 games: 34 assists - 8 turnovers
We're going to be a tough out if that's the type of ball control we get from the PG position.

It’s comforting having Akinjo to finish games. Ballhandling, sells the reach in fouls, and good FT shooter.
1-11 from the field though. Needs to keep looking for the drive and kick threes rather than try to make things happen amongst the trees.

Not a bad guess, but Marshall did say at the end that he made a good choice to go with the HOFer.

I love the fact that Akinjo is the most effective point guard that we've had in years and that he's still just scratching the surface of his ultimate ability to impact games.

But he is totally clueless and the most repetitive commentator I’ve ever heard. “This is the Big East, what do you expect...” (x 22)

Though, it's not that surprising. This is the time of year that freshmen tend to drag a bit that often leads to shots coming up short. Good on him for limiting his shots and taking care of the ball as he's been doing.

Akinjo gets better every game. He is taking care of the ball and not only getting assists, but those assists tend to be really easy hoops for his teammates (wide open shots and dunks). His understanding of the game and what the team needs from him seems to improve everyday. He still takes a few tough shots each game, but I think that aggressiveness is important to the way he plays and makes other teams respect him as a scorer. He is more than just a "pass first" PG, and some of those shots are going to start falling for him soon. While he is sometimes undersized against the players he is defending he is plays hard-nosed aggressive defense that seems to get under the skin of the players he defends.
Just what this team needs at the PG position.

Usually I can tune them out without much effort but Marshall was particularly abhorrent last night. Absolutely terrible

Obviously I didn’t hear Donny Marshall last night and frankly the comments surprise me because I’ve thought in the past he had overcome his suspect education and been a pretty fair analyst.
As for last night, looked like Akinjo was working on a push shot/floater in the lane (which some here were calling for) but clearly he hasn’t mastered it. I thought aside from missing shots, most of which were good, he played a very good game. He and Mac are playing very well together and both alternate the PG role better than in the past and both look for Josh any chance they get. Anybody that suggests he isn’t a great point guard is out of their mind.

Donny said multiple times that Georgetown is still looking for a true PG. the board conjecture was that maybe he was holding a grudge because James reneged on UConn. But even beyond that he was just annoying and off point most of the game. Tbh it seemed like he did no prep whatsoever, rolled into the arena 5 mins before tip, and just started regurgitating lines he’d used in the past when calling our games.

That is inexcusable, FOX needs to step it up with the analysts. If they are that unprepared that Marshall could not even bother to look at the last 5 box scores, then he should not be allowed on-air. There is no doubt the Fox stats gophers could get him anything he needs. I am certain there are many former players that would put in the time to be better.

I don't think he even knew who Mac Mclung was.

With all the coverage of college basketball and the ESPN layoffs, I don't think that ESPN is a better alternative for college basketball. Part of it is that I've grown tired of some of the lead ESPN analysts, it is just that relatively speaking FS1 is not bad. It is just the landscape. It seemed that this is the first time Donny Marshall saw the Hoyas and I wondered if he drew the game because he had familiarity with Providence. He was truly awful last night, to the point where I would suspect his knowledge when I watch other games now.
