So that ends any debate about whether Yurt would be back next year.

“Chose” is an interesting choice of words.

Gee, maybe that Wally Pipp comment wasn't just a "hey, you're doing a great job Tim!" thing.

That's a pretty damning quote.
Makes sense though. If he was healthy enough to dress against Butler, unless he reaggravated the injury in practice during the last few days, it makes no sense why he didn't even dress tonight.

I dunno....I couldn’t imagine voluntarily sidelining myself and watching my teammates leave it all out on the court.

I dunno....I couldn’t imagine voluntarily sidelining myself and watching my teammates leave it all out on the court. I can. He's playing for a pro career and came here specifically to train for that with Patrick Ewing, not to make the minor league playoffs. If he's not ready, he's not ready. I think it has to be asked whether Mac was pushed back too quickly and whether he got hurt because of it.

That’s what you get when you bring in these types of guys. Has seemed like a “me” person since Day 1.

If he "chose" not to play when he could've given it a try in such a crucial game, then I've lost all respect for him. He should just announce he's done with his college career if that was the case. I understand he needs to protect himself for the future but he could've given us 15-20 minutes last night. Maybe he did tweak his ankle but I doubt it based off the way PE worded his statement.

Why do people think Patrick Ewing knows Yurtseven's body better than Omer Yurtseven does?

Chill out everyone.
I think it was probably “you can go but your ankle is tender, if you wait a few more days it will be less tender” so he choose to sit out another game to get closer to 100% (no inside info - but my gut feeling having dealt with enough injuries in competitive sports growing up)
You guys are putting a lot of stock in a single word choice which I don’t believe gave the whole picture.
I don’t know where you guys get “me first” and all that. He has seemed to me to be a very good team mate. Does he think he is “the man” of course he does. So does Mac and Blair - and guess what, WE NEED THAT AND WANT THAT.
You guys are crazy

Hard to speculate here as no one on here is Ewing, the player or the trainer. We just needed bodies last night which would have been sufficient to get the W. Mac tried and frankly looked bad. He needs his bounce before coming back and even then there will be some rust. Same with Yurt. It is frustrating but with 7 minutes left I could tell that game was over. I kept looking at the bench and realized we had nobody over there.

You guys are putting a lot of stock in a single word choice which I don’t believe gave the whole picture. It's not a single word choice though. Everything Patrick Ewing has said in the past week (Pipp, Moseley a warrior, Omer "chose") seems pointed around the idea that he thinks Yurtseven should be playing.

You go if you can. You don't if you can't. But one thing is for sure. That game was the swing game for the NCAA tourney. If you look ahead we can realistically win 2 and lose 3. Anything better would involve unbelievably good play. This game, if won, would have eased that a bit for consideration. Creighton, NOVA, and Marquette are not gonna be easy. Hoping for DeP on the road (and that may be a stretch) plus X.
To me with that in mind (unless turning pro was first in mind) is number 1. Without heroics I think we are NIT at this point.

It's also possible that Ewing is just frustrated with a season gone to hell and vented a little. Cannot imagine how hard it is for such an intense competitor to go through this year with transfers and injuries. There will be time for reflection on everything that went wrong this year after this season ends, but for now I hope that this does not create another distraction. Until I read something more than this one quote, I give the player the benefit of the doubt. His career path gains more from playing than sitting so it does not make sense to me that he chose to sit when he was capable of playing.

One of the things that has irked me about Ewing’s press conferences in general is that, whether intentionally or not, Ewing often makes comments like this one that seems to throw blame toward the players. Maybe Ewing feels that Yurtseven is being too cautious and that he should play, and that’s fine, but I don’t like the public airing of grievances that Ewing seems to resort to at times. I don’t think it’s professional.

So Mac tried to go last night and look where that got the team.
With the lack of information we have I can't fault Yurtseven for not playing if he is hurt. Hard to argue with the idea that an athlete should be respected for choices he makes about his health.

To me it’s simple. By all accounts Yurtseven had not even practiced yet. Hard to push a guy to get his first action in a game. We saw what happened with Mac. Have to question the judgment to allow him to play with the injury it looks like he has.
As for the coach, he has to operate with what the players and medical staff tell him.
