I may have missed it. Was there ever a ruling from the NCAA about his petition for eligibility?

Is he definitively out this year? Or is it the usual we’lll know when we know? I am curious, would we ever know if an exception was ever applied for?

One aspect of recruiting we've actually been pretty strong at the past 10 years is petitioning the NCAA for player eligibility. Julian Vaughn and Josh Smith come to mind. Those were big time surprises on the positive side. I've got my fingers crossed. Until we hear definitely that he's out, in my mind, he might be able to play this year.

From the Villanova chat board - READ Omer Yurtseven - do they know something that we are not privy to??? Don't dwell on the negative tone of the article - just posted it for what they said about OMER - after all it is villanova
Georgetown Hoyas Head Coach: Patrick Ewing (2nd season) Previous Season Record: 15-15, 5-13 Big East — Lost to St. John’s in the first round of the Big East Tournament as 8-seed| Key Players: #15 Jessie Govan, 6’10, C, Sr.; #4 Jagan Mosely, 6’3, G, Jr.; #32 Kaleb Johnson, 6’7, G/F, Sr.; #1 Jamorko Pickett, 6’8, G, So. Key Departures: Marcus Derrickson
Outlook: During this time last year, we were relentlessly mocking the Hoyas’ out of conference schedule filled with regional cupcakes and coming to terms with the fact that the once-great program was in full rebuilding mode. As Patrick Ewing enters his second season, the “hype” is there as he welcomes some of his own recruits but, unfortunately for Georgetown fans, the new faces are unlikely to make a significant impact this year.
Georgetown will welcome Mac McClung, a 6’2” guard from Virginia, known for his viral dunks, James Akinjo, and Josh LeBlanc. However, while Jessie Govan returns to campus and NC State transfer Omer Yurtseven is finally available, the consensus appears to be that the Hoyas just do not have the personnel to make a splash just yet.
The middle of the conference is a mess right now, with a number of teams fielding relative unknown commodities, so the Hoyas aren’t alone in this regard. In that same vein, the Hoyas could feasibly close out the season anywhere between 5th and 10th in the conference (okay, maybe 9th. Sorry, DePaul) without really surprising anyone.
All of that being said, Govan should have another nice season under the tutelage of Ewing and it will be interesting to see how the staff is able to develop “their guys.” While they won’t compete for a Big East title this year, the Hoyas are heading in the right direction.

"Finally available" sounds like something you'd write after a guy sits out a year. Seems like they might just be off on his arrival at Georgetown. Would love to have him be eligible -- and maybe there's still a shot -- but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe it's happening.

I thought there was ZERO chance that Omer Yurt7 would gain eligibility this season but now after this....
Starting to think Yurt7 being eligible this season is a real possibility. If Mark Smith had been granted immediate eligibility, gotta believe Yurt7 has a very good chance....
Also NCAA has to make a strandard straight forward rule for every student athlete...

"The Hoyas are awaiting word on whether 7-foot N.C. State transfer Omer Yurtseven will get a waiver to play."

Not impossible the NCAA has a board in one of its conference rooms with all the name programs listed under one of two columns: ”Allow them/shoe companies to pay players” ”Allow them to get transfers without sitting a year”

The Villanova web page outlook for GU gives credence to that as does Adam Zangoria's post about Pat Ewing and Chris Mullen. I think the schools know in advance of the Official Letter. I would not be surprised if Yurt plays this year. But that's IMHO.

The Illini face Missouri in their annual rivalry game Dec. 22 in St. Louis. Smith will join fellow Metro East natives Jeremiah Tilmon and Javon Pickett, both of whom signed with Illinois before being granted their release after former Illini coach John Groce was fired in 2017, on the Tigers roster.
Speculating here, but perhaps the reason Mark Smith was granted a release was the change of head coaches at Illinois. He was recruited by Groce, but then played a year under Brad Underwood before transferring.
IIRC, many HS Seniors have been granted their release if they sign an LOI but the coach who recruited them departs before they enroll. This is taking the next step -- recruited by a coach who departs, play a year under the new coach -- and then leave.
I believe that is what happened with Yurtseven. He was recruited by Mark Gottfried, and played under him his freshman year - although he missed nine games due to some NCAA eligibility rule because he played with a pro or semi-pro team in Turkey. Omer played his soph year under Kevin Keatts, then opted to depart for GU.
I did not think there was a chance for Omer to be eligible this season, but now I am reassessing that assumption. Just guessing on my part, I have no inside info. But what I do have now, is hope!

Will the NCAA grant Yurt's waiver at 8:29 next Tuesday so he can emerge from the locker room through a cloud of smoke, to blaring trumpets and the tumult of thousands (hundreds?) of Hoya faithful chanting "Yurt Yurt Yurt"??!

Has Yurt7 already been granted immediate eligibility and the program just hasn't announced it yet...?
