James Akinjo back on the market. 4 star PG bails on UConn. James Akinjo, the 6-foot point guard from Richmond Salesian (CA), has obtained a release from his Letter of Intent to UConn in the wake of the firing of Kevin Ollie. Akinjo also held offers from Colorado, Iowa State, Maryland, Texas A&M, and UNLV, among others.

He would be my top priority at this time if I were PE.

Those who said that PE wouldn’t hustle on recruiting had no idea what they were talking about.

I mean how cool is that, to get a visit from a star of Space Jam only hours after being released?

Awesome! Whatever happens this kind of stuff gets me fired up for the future. PE is grinding and relentlessly looking to improve. No guarantees we get there, but keep on grinding!

Can't hurt to be the first one in to see him! Great work by Pat and staff. This hard work is gonna pay off. It has to. Now get him on campus for a visit within the next month and lock him up

Akinjo looks good. His Verbal Commits page only listed UConn as interest, which is a little odd for a 3 / 4 star recruit. He would be a great addition and looks like he has solid point guard skills.

Seeing all interest is looks like he only had one offer. He had interest in Cal. Good news for Georgetown.

He's a dog. Honestly the best guard we could add at the moment. He could be a Ryan Arch, or Jevon Carter, in terms of the type of impact he could have on a program. He's a culture builder, a leader, and a coach on the floor. He plays both ends and has a 3.8 GPA for good measure.... The clip below is the best way to describe the type of kid he is. He's #15 in Black. The kid he's yelling at kept leaking out instead of crashing the boards. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jevon-carter-1.html www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/ryan-arcidiacono-1.htmlNot necessarily similar players but I could see his career following a similar path as either of these guys.

Pat must be used to this from his NBA days playing and coaching. I like Akinjo and prefer we land a 4 year player. I agree fundamentally, but do what advances the program.

This guy and McClung would give us 2 new guys in the rotation who would bring such different skills to the backcourt than what we've been going with. I am not optimistic, because with recruiting I never am, but our backcourt would be fundamentally different with 2 guys like that joining.
