Mac was icing both when on the bench, but not on the joint, but above it. This is often strain on the tendons, which isn't surprising given his well developed quads that give his his "bounce". The good thing is this isnt' ACL, MCL, (completely) patella tendon issues, nor meniscus type issues that are most problematic. But tendon pain isn't pain free and can limit movement. Important note: this is just based one where the ice was sitting everytime the camera showed him on the bench and nothing to do with any medical reporting (which is non-existent at Georgetown). Geez. How are y’all missing that this icing-the-knees thing is clearly just a huge suck up to PE. Look coach, we are just the same! It’s so obvious it’s pathetic on Mac’s part. www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1999/05/27/bad-knees-and-all-ewing-is-all-heart/c8574ec1-ecab-4452-b9e0-57201e41d776/(KIDDING, for those without sarcasm radar)

Off topic a bit, but I noticed that Zac Ervin, Macs sidekick at Gate City, now starting as a frosh at Elon, is hitting his stride: went for 27 with7 threes on Saturday.

Not afraid to take the clutch shot.

And doubly impressive performance vs Creighton given the fact that he was obviously sick as a dog. He could barely move around the court during breaks in the action and was bent over in exhaustion the last couple of minutes. Great performance under adverse conditions and yet again proves how big his heart is.

Just got back from the game. He was so clearly affected by illness but still made some big tough shots. Also took some ill (no pun intended) advised shots and turned the ball over but hey you take the good with the bad.
19 points for Mac in his “flu game”. I’ll take it.

He is the most comfortable taking a critical shot.

He is the most comfortable taking a critical shot. He has that confidence that real scorers have. He never seems afraid of the big moment. Sometimes that confidence leads to a few bad/forced shots, but that is part of the package with guys like Mac. I will take that confidence everyday!!!

Good performance for someone who was obviously ill with the Flu!

As Yurt said of Mac's penchant for stepping up in crunch time in the pinned interview with John Fanta: "He's got all the confidence and all the talent." Really, all the guys did a great job. Tremendous win in adverse conditions.

So Mac wasn't content with just icing the knees a la Ewing, he had to go for the Jordan-esque flu game?
In all seriousness though, one thing that Mac should get a ton of credit for last night, beyond that last shot: following up his own shot. I think there were (at least) three instances where he shot it short but collected, or nearly collected, the rebound off his own shot. And he made up the ground FAST. It's something that ordinarily we might think is fundamental and taught to 10 year olds, but...props for putting in the extra effort when he's sick. Clearly didn't have as much on his shot, but instead of giving up on the miss, he kept hustling even when he probably could have justified saving the energy. That's a sign of both good instincts and just pure determination.
You know...like Jordan.

He had a stretch where he was facilitating well. Also, his foul shooting is end-of-game money! 💰💰💰

Finished re-watching end of the game. After Mac finished going through the handshake line he looked like "death warmed over" as my dad used to say.

I like the fact that the perception of Mac’s game in the media has evolved from flashy dunker to “one tough kid”. Which is why Patrick recruited him as I recall. It is just so much fun as a fan to root for a team with these types of kids. Win or lose, great plays or air balls and sloppy passes, we know that they are giving it all they have.

The dunks are fun and all, but I don’t want him getting injured.

Truer words were never spoken. He is just (I don't mean only) "one tough kid!". I can't remember in 1 and 1/2 years an air ball or sloppy passes. He was sick , man. Very sick!!!
