This isn't really fair, as there are very few players in the league who can stop Lillard when he has it going. I don't disagree. I'm only saying that, at Mac's size, one needs to be closer to Dame in terms of talent than to that of McClung. And, the chasm is WIDE. Whatever happened to Muggsy Bogues and Spud Webb?

Pretty impressive display by Mac in the slam dunk contest. No matter what else happens, he'll always have Salt Lake City.

Mac was 6 for 7 on 3's in this game. Akinjo was out with covid so did not face Mac.

the improvements in his game that McClung has made since entering the G League are remarkable and a testament to his dedication. He's shooting 48% from 3 on almost five att/game and 56% overall, has a better than 3/1 ATO ratio, and has turned himself into an efficient player who no longer needs the ball in his hands all the time to make a positive impact. He's the leader of the second ranked team in the East and is one of the best overall players in the league. still not a great defender (but he's improved there too) and his size and short arms are always going to be an issue, but there's been a consistent upward trajectory with Mac's game and he continues to get visibly better all the time. I've always liked the kid but wasn't sure he'd ever have a real shot at the NBA, but if he keeps playing at the level he's shown this season, he's a lock to be on a roster next year and potentially even become a regular rotation piece in the right situation.

Mac was 6 for 7 on 3's in this game. Akinjo was out with covid so did not face Mac. It was actually listed as a "non COVID related illness"... he might've gotten sick when he heard Miles McBride was being sent down on assignment from the Knicks. This would've been the first time McBride has been sent down since James lost his starting spot, meaning he would've been knocked down to 3rd string and looking at a possible DNP coaches decision, or worse, only playing a handful of minutes and taking a big hit on his per game averages. This was also Duane Washington Jr's first game for them, who they just signed on a 2 way and is another guard. I know James is a competitor and wanted to be out there, but the thought of a DNP CD or a few minutes of garbage time in a game he knew Mac would be starting in, might've been too much for him to handle.

I do think he's close, and his improved shooting and efficiency really help, but still, I thought after his summer league and pre season with the Warriors, another team would've scooped him up and gave him a real shot, but nothing happened. The NBA doesn't seem to care at this point how good you are, it's all about how well do you compliment our teams best players? They seem only interested in, long, athletic guys that can defend and rebound some even if they aren't very skilled. And 6'6 guys and up that can shoot 3's. While Mac is proving he can play more off the ball and be a knock down 3 point shooter, I still don't think teams would view him in that role because of his height. Ultimately I'd say he still projects as a microwave scorer off the bench. It's also gonna come down to luck and latching on the with the right team next season. He's on the 2 way with Philly now, but they don't play their 2 way guys at all, they don't even play Springer who's been in Delaware almost the entire year. He'll be lucky to get a few minutes of garbage time this year. What's worse, the 2 way is almost a prison sentence since it's a near certainty Philly will never give him a chance this year or next. Philly doesn't have to make a qualifying offer to him till the end of training camp next season I believe. Meaning they could drag him through summer league, training camp and preseason with their team and then just waive him right before the season, instead of giving him a chance to do summer league and training camp with another team. Of course if Philly knows they really have no interest in developing him, they could waive him right after the draft like the Lakers did this year to give him a chance to sign on with someone else. Hopefully that happens, and hopefully he picks a team this time that's not considered a championship contender, so he can maybe have a real shot.

Hopefully that happens, and hopefully he picks a team this time that's not considered a championship contender, so he can maybe have a real shot. yeah, I hear you on all that - I thought somebody would've taken a chance on him too after summer league. Who knows, but Mac and his camp made the decision to try to break into a Warriors roster with one open spot and Iguodala waiting in the wings and we know how that turned out for him. but I do believe he's reaching a level of play where people are going to have to give him a lot more serious consideration, especially given his marketability from the dunk contest. Last year with South Bay he showed he could run the point and play at a high level in the G League, but he was still a ball-dominant guy with questionable efficiency. This year with Delaware, he's become a much more complete player in a variety of roles - his distribution is better and turnovers are down, he's been very effective and efficient as a starter with more limited minutes and also showed a similar impact coming off the bench as a sixth man, and he's shooting lights-out from three and proven he has ability to be successful as an off ball catch-and-shoot guy who doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time. he continues to get better and better at the skills the NBA values for complementary guys and has become much more consistent and well-rounded over the last two years. It takes a long time for an undrafted small guard like Mac to change people's minds, so maybe "a lock to be on a roster next year" is too strong of a statement, but his improvement is undeniable. I think getting the two-way with Philly is a big step towards NBA front offices recognizing him as having legitimate potential to help a team, and he's right on the edge of breaking through to real success if he can keep shooting and playing at this current level (which given his trajectory so far ought to be a fairly safe bet).
