I am late to the party with it being two games in but just wondering how you feel about Ewing's coaching in these first two games?
I really like the up tempo so far..It gives us a whole new look on the offensive side of the ball after all those years watching them run the clock down every position.Defense looks decent and it has gotten better from game one to game two.It looks like the team is already getting the feel and play together. Its only two games in but I have liked what I have seen from Ewing and his team.

Let’s play Richmond first before we can really make any claims about his coaching. Really can’t say too much after playing two terrible teams in MSM and Jacksonville.
But in terms of things you’d want to see from two wins against cupcakes he’s checking all the boxes. Fast tempo offense that plays to our players strengths. Improved intensity on defense. Confidence from seemingly ever play on the court. Better rim protection from our bigs. Improvement game to game. Obvious freshman mistakes that are quickly rectified by a quick timeout.
All in all great first two games but I’m not hopping on the delusion just yet unless we go undefeated in non-conference. If we only lose to Syracuse I’m also more than satisfied as I’m not sure III’s teams from the last couple years could have done that.

Too many defensive mistakes leading to easy baskets.

Clearly, a more positive direction...but the train has just left the station...much work to be done, but so far I like the progress that's being made all around.

Too many defensive mistakes leading to easy baskets. I really like the direction things seem to be going for the team. They seem to play with more intensity and confidence than the last few years, although the first two games were not against good teams. The two issues I have seen that I am sure they are working on in practice, are pick and roll defense and turnovers. The little guard from MSM was really quick and hard to contain but they gave up way too many easy layups to the guys rolling to the rim. Need to tighten that up. The turnovers are a function of trying to play faster and also playing freshman who are still getting used to the college game and each other. Those turnovers have not hurt the team yet, but against better teams, turnovers in close games make the difference between a win and loss. Need to value the ball much more. Overall very pleased with the start.

Most has been mentioned but I love Pat's TimeOut usage and presence so far. If he sees something wrong he'll call the TO right away and rip into the guys (deservedly). They are listening and making adjustments based on his coaching during TOs.

Too many defensive mistakes leading to easy baskets. This is spot on - but at the same time, defense takes time. Unless you have a great rim protector, everybody on the court has to be in sync, the rotations have to be crisp. It needs to improve significantly by Big East season, but I have confidence that they will put in the work.

They are listening and making adjustments based on his coaching during TOs. COach Ewing is quick to yank someone who ismoverwhelmed or mismatched. And will quickly call a timeout to stop the opponents momentum. III liked to collect and save his timeouts oftentimes waiting too long while the other team went on a run to even the score or take a big lead. However by hoarding timeout those TOs became usefull at end of game situations either to make a come back or maintain a lead. We haven't really seen a close game or game where we are down by a lot at the end with Ewing. That is when we will see the TO management. But over all it's an NBA style of calling TOS quickly before the other teams momentum gets out of hand.

I love that Pat is very engaged during the games. The way the games are going, he could be like Chris Mullin in his first year, just sitting back saying these are not my players, wait a couple of years. Instead, he's on top of everything. Top competitor.

So far, so good.
Players look like there is effort. There's clearly a plan being executed on offense and it generates some pretty good looks so far. There's clearly a plan to handle pick and roll, with varied levels of execution. Some of the players look improved skillwise, but it's tough to tell how much of that is Ewing and the staff.
Gameplans can break down easily against better teams, so we'll see. The plan to run is great with a team that may struggle to generate halfcourt offense, but it will be interesting to see how many points we can create with screens/movement when nothing else is working. Even then, though, I'm not sure it is an indictment of Ewing. The cupboard was not particularly full.

Offense is clicking, defense has improved.Ewing's social media presence has enhanced the program...especially with the respect he has from the NBA. Our cupcake schedule is doing it's job. No complaints from me. HoyaSaxa...let's go for the undefeated non-conference record.

We are scoring easy baskets off of inbound plays.

Not to rain on this parade but what concerns me is that we seem to look good, and PE 's system seems to be working, because our opponents have enabled us to play the NBA style offense - and defense - that PE knows and loves. But what happens when we face teams that will control the boards and keep us from running? Or play strong zone defenses and make us develop a more polished half court offense? Or will rip our man to man defenses apart and force us to play zone? And of course get Jesse in would trouble? You know the better BE teams can and will do all of the above. Let's hope someone (Syracuse?) provides a more realistic test before we start BE play.

Doing some sloppy research... number of consecutive wins to begin a GU coaching career:
Maurice Joyce - 5 Francis "Buddy" O'Grady - 5 Harry "Buddy" Jeannette - 5 Tom Nolan - 5 James Colliflower - 3 John "Jackie" Maloney - 3 Fred Mesmer - 3 John Colrick - 2 John O'Reilly - 1 Elmer Ripley - 1 Tommy O'Keefe - 1 John Magee - 1 John Thompson Jr. - 1 Craig Esherick - 1 Bill Dudack - 0 Ken Engles - 0 John Thompson III - 0
Let's crush that record, Big Pat.
