Here they go again The Hoya, Georgetown’s student newspaper, reported on Oct. 20 that Love Saxa, a student organization promoting Catholic doctrine regarding marriage, will undergo a Student Activities Commission hearing on Oct. 23, to defend itself against charges that the group fosters hatred and intolerance. The hearing is a response to a petition filed by a student-senator in the Georgetown University Student Association, and supported by leaders of gay pride student organizations at Georgetown. www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/georgetown-pro-marriage-group-faces-sanctions-after-students-complain-70278Richard M. Guess this means a campus group at a Catholic college is forbidden from holding Catholic views. Nothing new at Georgetown.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to hold onto views that are hateful and discriminate but I guess that's the catholic way. It will take a few more generations but I'm hopeful that these views, and eventually the entire region, will fade away. The world will be better when this happens.

Being against something on moral grounds is not, by definition, hate. The Church has made this clear on numerous occasions,as have other faiths. If you are arguing against the ability to hold views based on morality, this conversation veers into something entirely different. BTW, current society is neither tolerant nor accommodating to all "consenting adults" scenarios. I have yet to see a cultural groundswell to support rights for bigamy, for instance.

Being against something on "moral grounds" is just a cover for hate. Why people let religions get away with this is beyond me.

So if someone is against adultery or “moral grounds” it would just be a cover for hate? Likewise if someone were against capital punishment on “moral grounds” that too is a cover for hate? Just making sure I understand your stance.

Then there are people who are hateful to religion.

Hmm I normally check out hoyaloya's threads to roll my eyes and have a good laugh.
I'm also pro gay marriage as a civil institution.
That being said from reading the article I'm not sure Love Sax did anything wrong. Now i'm sure the source is biased, but based on the allegations it says were put forth I'm not sure they did anything to have their funding or status revoked. If they said anything specifically homophobic and were actively spreading hate then sure, but if they're just preaching that the church teaches that matrimony is between a man and a woman then I'm fine with that and Georgetown and everyone else should be too.
Saying matrimony is between a man and woman is not attacking homosexuals or gay marriage. I think people should be allowed to have their civil marriages no matter what their sexuality is, and I think it's an entirely different institution than the sacrament of matrimony.

If preaching the teachings of the Catholic Church at Georgetown is a conduct violation, we are all in a world of hurt.

Such a courageous decision by the Board. The people who brought this grievance should be sanctioned for gross stupidity.

It would have been 12-0 in the past. GU is making progress. The sooner Catholic views are completely marginalized, the better.
