Was reading an article with an interesting take that might make this whole process easier. Simply classify AR15s or really any high capacity magazine gun or bump stock modifications a Class 3 firearm and the issue takes care of itself. All class 3 firearms are already subject to licensure, registration and training requirements. Currently applies to machine guns, guns with silencers, sawed off shotguns, etc. just expand it to include these weapons of mass destruction and the problem takes care of itself without having to address any constitutional issues.

American exceptionalism? The United States is one of the only countries in the world where mass public shootings are a regular occurrence. Researchers Jillian Peterson from Hamline University and James Densley from Metropolitan State University, both in St. Paul, Minn., have spent their careers tracking these events, and their research shows that attacks are overwhelmingly carried out by men whose ages are strikingly clustered around two key periods in their lives. Workplace attacks have been mostly carried out by men in middle age. School shootings, on the other hand, involve perpetrators mostly in their late teens or early 20s. Men in these same two age groups, Peterson points out, also have higher rates of suicide largely using firearms. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/06/03/why-so-many-mass-shooters-young-angry-men/This is exactly what I said to my wife when we were discussing al of the mass shootings over the weekend.

This may be genius. Does anyone know if this could be done by administrative rule making with notice and comment???

The self-proclaimed "pro-life" party. Nothing but hypocrites. And it will not answer the lingering question: Is the slaughter of innocents the unavoidable price of freedom? A significant group of Americans believe it is. In a recent CBS-YouGov poll, 44 percent of Republicans agreed that mass shootings are “unfortunately something we have to accept” in a free country. It is the “unfortunately” that gets to me. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/06/06/pro-gun-argument-morally-legally-wrong/

Handguns are used in the vast majority of violent gun incidents. The problem is not really changed much at all until handguns are strictly regulated (or better, yet, banned entirely).

But you could include handguns as well if they can fire more than x amount of bullets before reloading. It’s all how you make the definition.

So watching your classmates get gunned down and having to wipe their blood all over you to play dead more convincingly is totally cool, but it’s seeing men dressed as women that will really do the irreparable harm to kids. Republicans have nothing but culture war.

Spot on response. I've seen similar solutions from striving for a better relationship with Jesus to allowing prayer back in classrooms (presumably to improve one's relationship with Jesus).
Texas is forging ahead to arm teachers and putting money into incentivizing the effort.
WWJD? Definitely neither of these. He might throw a few chairs around the temple before going off in a major way on the politicians.

After the end of Mr. McConaughey's remarks, a short encapsulation of what is wrong with our country:

Charlie Kirk -- did you listen to Matthew McConaughey's comments? Seriously, did you? Or was your tweet simply a knee-jerk reaction to shame someone to "stay in their lane"? Not sure where you get off thinking you are the arbiter of who gets to say what and when. Lost goodwill and respect that he earned -- WTF, Charlie? In case you haven't taken a moment to look outside your bubble of white male insecurity and the Turning Point vacuum, this is what it looks like to use your voice and speak out for people whose lives have been ravaged by the guns you blindly defend. He's a celebrity so -- what? He can only do one thing and can't have opinions or express them openly? If you had listened to his words, you would know that he grew up in Uvalde, his mother was a kindergarten teacher down the road from Robb Elementary, and he is an advocate of safe gun ownership. Also, I am open to ANY voices that can speak truth and compassion to a problem that is taking lives week after week due to policies held in place by you and yours, who, by the way, McConaughey could care les losing your so-called respect. FU, pal. You have a voice -- use it to make the world better or shut it. The rest of us got work to do, trying to do the hard grinding work needed to make real change.

Unfortunately until money(bribes) & lobbyists(bribers)are out of politics nothing will get done on gun legislation or a host of other very important issues facing the country...

How effing stupid, hypocritical and corrupt are MAGA GOPers? Pretty damn stupid. (Any HoyaTalk "Republican" want to point me to any proposal for "banning guns"?).
During the hearing, Rep. Steve Scalise (La.), the No. 2 Republican in the House, argued against tightening gun restrictions in response to the recent mass shootings, arguing that airplanes were not banned after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“Airplanes were used that day as the weapon to kill thousands of people and to inflict terror on our country,” Scalise said of the attacks. “There wasn’t a conversation about banning airplanes. There was a conversation about connecting the dots — how can we try to figure out if there are signs we can see to stop the next attack from happening?”
Although airplanes were not banned after the 2001 attacks, billions of dollars have been spent on aviation security since then. After the attacks, the federal government took charge of airport security, creating the Transportation Security Administration to oversee security at more than 400 airports.
Scalise himself was critically injured in 2017 when a gunman opened fire on Republican members of Congress during a baseball practice in Virginia.

SOURCE: Washington Post, June 8, 2022 As I’ve noted in a previous post, this line of “reasoning” is impossibly dumb. I cannot fathom how people think this is sound logic, and from the #2 ranking House Republican no less. What an embarrassment. The fact that this isn’t even close to the dumbest thing a Republican congressperson has said in the past 24 hours speaks to how ridiculous the whole party has become.
