Just watched Texas Dept. of Public Safety press conference. Abbott and Texas LEOs did themselves zero favors by pushing out initial inaccurate information and now correcting it. The PAO briefing today was particularly unclear and inarticulate in his language.
Having worked with federal LEOs (mostly FBI) for 20 plus years one thing they have down pat is how to have professional FBI PAOs brief.
A very sad situation. And it took a federal CBP tactical team to take down the shooter.

The husband of one of the murdered teachers reportedly died of a heart attack today, leaving 4 children as orphans.

Yes, the real tragedy is the damage done to the ears and "ideals" of "Repbulicans."

What's the problem, MAGA GOPers? Don't have the courage of your "convictions" as perverted as they are?? Cowards. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is backing out of a scheduled in-person appearance at the National Rifle Association’s convention in Houston on Friday and will travel to Uvalde, where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers days earlier in the state’s worst school shooting in history. He will instead give prerecorded remarks to be played at the convention. Beyond Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Houston were initially scheduled to attend the convention. Patrick has not publicly commented on his plans. Both Cornyn and Crenshaw backed out of the event, citing scheduling conflicts that arose before Tuesday. www.texastribune.org/2022/05/26/greg-abbott-nra-uvalde/And how about the incompetent public affairs response to this tragedy? Officials, who are facing mounting questions about the police response to the massacre, have offered varied timelines and explanations of the massacre and law enforcement’s response. They have also made sometimes inconsistent or contradictory announcements about key details, such as how the shooter entered the school or how long he was inside. They have even withdrawn some claims outright. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/05/26/uvalde-shooting-official-accounts/A gunman roamed outside a Texas elementary school for about 12 minutes, entered without challenge and spent an hour inside before he was killed by law enforcement, authorities said Thursday, revising key details in their account of the massacre as the police response to it was criticized by some parents. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/05/26/uvalde-police-response-questions/

Actually, it might take an automatic weapon to stop wild hogs like razorbacks and javelinas, in groups.. I wouldn't want to go against a group of them with even a bear hunting rifle. It should be possible to craft legislation defining the circumstances in which a rural landowner can apply for a license to get pig-killing weapons. Since that level of weapon should be otherwise mostly outlawed, maybe they could have the military as sole sales provider. OTOH, trapping is done by states like Texas, as a control method, and is probably the most effective tactic. That Senator should start writing legislation.. Usng the small population of landowners threatened by feral hogs as an excuse to allow anybody to buy the same weapon is way beyond disingenuous. And, that's the level of legislation we should be refining, not dithering over and then turning down minor improvements to background checks

So using his logic, a law abiding dead person would wonder why his/her right to LIVE was superseded by some guy’s desire to shoot a pig. I really can’t understand how anyone could make that argument in good conscience. Shameful!

Apparently, bad people with guns and body armor can only be stopped by good people with guns and body armor organized into a specialized tactical attack unit. How long did it take trained professionals to neutralize a lone 18-year old gunman?
I suppose teachers just need additional training for firearm and body armor use along with defensive tactical protocols. Maybe an afternoon during the summer is enough along with their compulsory training for diversity, equality, and inclusion?
Arm the teachers? Why not arm the students? But let's be reasonable here - only the students who are 18 years and older should be allowed to carry firearms to school. We are not that gun crazy! The younger ones shouldn't be allowed to - yet.

How about this plan?

I really can’t understand how anyone could make that argument in good conscience. Shameful! It is shameful, but see my earlier comment on narrowly crafted exceptions to an automatic weapons ban. It's not for people who go hog hunting for fun (a population which heavily overlaps with those who cook speed), but a landowner whose property and stock are overrun by groups of feral pigs. Knowing how and why rural folks legitimately use firearms, and building in concessions for legit use, would be a good way to get moving on actually beneficial laws. Of course, that has to be after the Democrats win heathy majorities in both houses of Congress, because there's no goodwill brought to the table by GOP pols.

I had workplace active shooter training done by the PG county police before I retired. They stressed that when they enter a reputed active shooter situation, anybody with a gun is assumed to be a threat, and if a person with a gun turns to their direction, they'll be shooting to kill, not trying to sort out "good guys with guns".
