Closing the southern border is an answer to a different question. None of these mass shootings have been initiated by immigrants from Mexico or South America; instead, they have been caused by American citizens who were able to purchase semi-automatic weapons with expanded magazines. Any attempt to link gun reform legislation to immigration law changes, as suggested by the President, is disingenuous. Look, I am willing to back some form of gun control as long as it is consistent with the 2nd Amendment. In fact, I would back repealing the 2nd Amendment but that is an impossible feat at this time. But if you make it much more difficult to purchase guns in this country, what do you think will be coming across our southern border? There is no easy solution to this problem, just as there are no easy solutions to the carnage taking place in many of our cities. To concentrate solely on guns is fools gold. I heard one analyst note that another thing common among the mass shootings is they are virtually all done by males. Another professor noted that 80% of these males had no father or other significant other male in their lives. I am sure there are many more items that would stand out under close examination. There are plenty of easy changes which move things in the right direction - like closing the gun show loophole, restricting magazine size, mandatory waiting periods, enhanced background checks - one side is not willing to try any of them, except blame video games or lack of prayer in school or a dozen other red herrings.

Amazing...
In every situation we've heard the way to stop these massacres is by adding more guns, and more armed people into the equation. "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." "We need to arm teachers" etc..
there are 120 guns to 100 citizens in this country. That solution hasn't done anything to curb this. It's kind of minboggling that would be used as a excuse for inaction now.
How come when the shooter is literally any other ethnic background violent video games aren't discussed? C'mon folks every other country has video games, and people with mental health issues. The difference is the guns.

Let's all do the dance... The use of video games has also increased significantly in the last 15 years. That's our real cause/effect. So saith Kevin McCarthy, anyway.

“Prices range from $160 to $490. Most are JanSport or High Sierra backpacks retrofitted with ballistic panels sewn into the back. The smallest offering, the "Junior Pack," is suggested for preschoolers.”

"Why don't we ban cars?"
I think most people that support tougher gun laws would accept firearms being regulated at a similar level as vehicles...

Texas again. But the good news is that, tomorrow, it will somehow be easier to get a gun in that state. Hard to imagine how that is possible or necessary but they are trying.

When we elect people like this, we get what we deserve. This country is broken and run by stupid people. I wish I could live somewhere else.

I just can’t believe this. We have serious public health issue and the solution from elected officials who can actually do something about it is more of the poison causing the problem and prayer to a god that almost certainly does not exist or, if it does, is cruel and indifferent to anything happening here on earth. It’s insane.

Oh, that means this is Leo "birther" Berman's replacement. Tyler always seems to elect the most sane legislators, like Louie Gohmert...

You really think this nonsense about more prayer and guns as the solution is not the majority opinion in this Editeded up country?

Unless you live in Tyler, TX, you do live somewhere else. You really think this nonsense about more prayer and guns as the solution is not the majority opinion in this Editeded up country? The vast majority is for responsible gun laws/background checks. It's the elected officials that keep refusing to do anything. I know you know that but my point is that, even those that grew up with guns and feel strongly about their rights to them, are, largely, for change. I didn't grow up in a hunting family but I did grow up in a town where it was/is prominent. Kids in HS would drive to school after getting up early to hunt deer and duck and goose with their guns in a rack in the cabs of their trucks or, even, in the bed. But they were never AR type weapons. And, thankfully, it was never an issue back then. The guns have changed and so have those wielding them. It's a complex issue but we need to start somewhere.
