ESPN, according to the story posted on its website regarding the Miller press conference, says that it stands by its report. I guess we'll find out more when the dust finally settles.

I trust the recruits more than Sean Miller on this one. But. . .what motivation would Sean Miller possibly have to lie??

If he’s guilty, why not lie? What does he have to lose by denying everything.

Thanks for this article. I'm glad the NBA will be active in these reform discussions. Silver seems ready to show leadership on this issue. I suspect that there will be some synergy with the NCAA Commission. It will be interesting to observe the media fallout on this, though. As Jay Bilas and others justifiably criticize the concept of amateurism, they never bring up the role of the NBA in this. I suspect because they have a vested interest in seeing these big stars play in college.

The NBA has to establish a real "minor" league basketball system with affiliated teams, like Major League Baseball, instead of using colleges as their sole developmental system. The G-League isn't enough. Of course, that would require an investment of money and payment of salaries, which could reduce income and affect the NBA salary cap. Which, in my view, makes it a non-starter.

Kansas and NC State join the party.... collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2018/04/10/additional-charges-filed-against-three-defendants-in-fbi-probe/ The schools named by the U.S. Attorney’s Office were Louisville, Miami, Kansas and NC State. All four schools had apparel deals with adidas at the time of the alleged wrongdoing by the defendants, and remain so at present time. While there isn’t anything new regarding Louisville and Miami in this latest update, that is not the case for Kansas and NC State. Gatto conspired to funnel $40,000 from adidas to the parent of a recruit who at the time was considered to be the top high school prospect in North Carolina, according to the document detailing the new charges. The goal, per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, was to ensure that said recruit would attend NC State. It has been speculated that the recruit in question was Dennis Smith Jr., who played one season at NC State before entering the 2017 NBA Draft. With regards to Kansas, it’s alleged in the documents that a payment of $90,000 was made to the mother of a top high school prospect in order to ensure the player’s commitment to Kansas. There are also allegations of an agreement with the guardian of another prospect in order to ensure his commitment to Kansas. It’s speculated that the recruitment of Josh Jackson, who entered the NBA after one season at Kansas, is the focus of this portion of the investigation. With regards to the second allegation regarding Kansas, it’s been speculated that the recruitment of Silvio De Sousa was impacted. De Sousa, who joined the Kansas program in the middle of the 2017-18 season after graduating from IMG Academy, recently completed his freshman season at the school.

I would love to see some sweeping change come to college basketball but I’m not holding my breath. It’s clear that there are many programs circumventing the rules and paying athletes both knowingly and (close my eyes on purpose) “unknowingly” to the point where I think the collective outrage with begin to fade. This is all focusing on Adidas and you can bet they are not the only company spreading around cash.
I do think the one and done rule needs to go so that at least allows the top 15 or so prospects each year head straight to the pros and make money above board. I like the Big East proposal of a straight to the pros or two year minimum commitment.

It's nice that the University of Miami today announced a two-year contract extension for head coach Jim Larranaga, through the 2023-2024 season. Timing is everything.

Said it earlier and I’ll say it again. Nothing will come of this. Maybe a slap on the wrist, some low level guys get moved out and then it’s back to business.
