247sports.com/Article/Christian-watson-pitt-panthers-basketball--149741975/Christian Watson is a 6-foot-7 forward prospect out of the class of 2022. The 196-pound facilitator plays for St. John's College High School in Lanham, Maryland. He currently holds 10 Division I offers and interest from many others, including Pitt. His sophomore season ended in a final four appearance in the WCAC, the conference which Watson calls “the best conference for high school basketball in the world.” Speaking on his season, Watson said he gained lots of experience playing against older players. “I had to play a big role on last year's team, starting as a sophomore and guarding talented juniors and seniors every single night.” Watson holds offers from Georgetown, LSU, VCU, Xavier, Rhode Island, LaSalle, George Washington, George Mason, St. Joes, and Bryant. He says that all of the schools that he has offers from are recruiting him hard, but NC State, Providence, and Iona are pushing the hardest for him out of all the schools showing interest. Additionally, he has received interest from Pitt, Marquette, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Michigan, ECU, JMU, UNC Charlotte, and Mount St. Mary’s. “Coach Brown called me and was just explaining how they had a lot of DMV dudes come through Pitt,” he said about his interest from the Panthers. “They felt like I fit well in their playing style.” Although Watson says he does not know much about the program yet, he did add that he would love to play in the ACC. “I feel like that’s where the best competition is in college basketball, he says. “It would make me better every single night.” The tough competition will be nothing new to the rising junior. “Playing in the DMV, you get the best of the best every night. There is never a time where you don’t have to play to your full potential,” he said. “The basketball culture is amazing, and we produce a lot of pros. Basketball is everything down here.” The industry-generated 247Sports Composite has Watson ranked as a three-star small forward prospect in his class. He is also ranked as the No. 197 overall prospect in this class, the No. 39 overall small forward prospect in his class, and the No. 4 overall prospect from D.C. in his class by the 247Sports Composite.

Would someone who’s more in the know than I am be able to answer who are the handful of prospects that we are most likely to get or is it just too difficult to know at this point

We just need one local guy to get this local thing rolling!! I want to see us open up a DMV pipeline where we get at least one a year or one every other year!

Christian Fermin is another guy to keep an eye on (he talked about really wanting a Georgetown offer recently).

Right now, we've only got 2 spots opening up (Rice & Carey leave).
Harris / Beard Riley Mohammed / Clark / Holloway King / Billingsley Mutombo / Igohoefe / Wilson
If you look at that breakdown (obv guys can play mutiple pos), you're looking at a guard at either spot as the top priority -- and I think the public chatter confirms as much. Using both spots on guards wouldn't be a bad idea, either.
I think we'll likely have another spot or two open by the spring, but that look-ahead demands some inside info or mind-reading into Pat's brain... or at least a look at the lineups he throws out there this year. (Could Clark/Holloway fight for 1 spot going fwd? Igohoefe/Wilson? Would Aminu leave after 1? Would King?)
My guess is those 1st 2 spots are set up for PG/SG/SF additions - esp since Aminu is probably a 2yr guy max. Whatever opens up can be used to fill in frontcourt wants/needs.

I would bet whatever anybody wants to bet that we'll have a minimum of 4 new players on the 2022-2023 roster compared to 2021-2022. There's no way we're only using 2 new scholarships.

Reminds me of Powell from Seton Hall. I like them as your top 2.

By next year don't we really need a small forward or maybe even two?? It seems like that position would be our greatest need or am I wrong??

There are easily a dozen or more kids that are showing interest in the Hoyas that we would all be extremely happy to have commit to the program. Here’s hoping someone takes the leap soon. I agree it's refreshing to see recruits interested. Us winning the BE Title has made us a destination again. The Thompson Center will rep great benefits going forward.

"The visit was great. Being in contact with Coach Musselman and the staff for so long and just coming here and see them in person was great,” Lloyd said. "I really enjoyed myself. Had a great time with my family.”
Lloyd, 6-6, 195 pounds, of Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, made an official visit to Nebraska over the weekend and had also officially visited Oregon and Georgetown. He had planned to reveal his college choice Sunday but will delay an announcement now.
“Actually I think I’m postponing my decision as of right now,” he said. “I had an idea what I wanted to do, but with certain circumstances and things changing I’ve decided not to do it right now and wait until I feel the time is right.”

The rumor was he was a Oregon lean, but they just got a commitment from another 5 star guard so that might be why he is delaying his decision. Beating out Arkansas will not be easy, as they have had some recent success and that program seems to be on an upswing under Musselman, but you would think the Hoyas should have a decent chance to land him and his visit to Georgetown reportedly went very well. I guess we will see.

Yeah, that sounds like- I was going to pick Oregon, but now I'm unsure, and I'm not really sold on my other finalists...

Does anyone know how many scholarships we have available for the 2022 recruiting class? has off right more I would say 3. Carey, King and Rice. All have the option to come back next year if they want. I would also expect a transfer or two as well like any other year

All have the option to come back next year if they want. I would also expect a transfer or two as well like any other year I'm pretty sure that Rice can't return next year. He has already played 4 years at The Citadel - this season will be his 5th and final year. Carey and King have each played just 3 seasons so far. so after this year they could still choose to play their additional 5th year next season..
