I believe he should have organized a basketball camp, even if it were kids 8th grade or younger.. Invite all the local aau programs to attend, that would have been a nice olive branch to the local area.. Mullins did this at St. Johns.. I see that Chris Mullin hosted a camp in 2016. Did he host one in 2015 the year he was hired? You point out that he hired a staff but the truth is the complete staff has yet to be announced.. www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/062617aaa.htmlMy bad on mentioning Chris Mullins, I thought he had hosted a camp shortly after he was hired.. Considering that GUHoyas still has the link for a cancelled JT3 camp it may not have been a tough stretch to take it over, I just think it could have been an easy way to reach out.. I know who the coaching assistants will be but what about Dir.of Ops or Player development or Video Coordinator/scouting assistant? Seeing that PE came from the NBA how about an analytics person? Not even gonna mention my pet peeve(You're welcome Hoya4ever & Dan!) These are staff spots that every team in the BE has on their staff rosters in some capacity, it'd be a big disadvantage for Gtown not to follow suit..

Maybe we should all withhold judgment until the season starts ... oh no, that would be reasonable. We have seen reports of dozens offers and many official and unofficial visits to campus. We snagged 4* Jamarko Pickett. I'm pretty comfortable heading into this season. In my mind this is most likely a 3 year rebuild ... anything quicker will be gravy. I've renewed my tickets and I'm giving Coach Ewing the benefit of the doubt. I assume that even though I'm an obsessive fan that I probably am only aware of a small fraction of what is going on.

So does anyone know what the design flaws at are? Besides the fact that we can't play games there...

I concede the point on Gtown having a camp this summer..

I took a tour of the IAC as part of my 40th Class Reunion activities and we could not go into the men's court. We were told that the HVAC was inadequate and that they already had to replace/refinish the men's court (issue with humidity I think). The floor was being replaced/refinished when we were there in the first week of June. Maybe someone has more accurate info on that, but that is what I recall.

There is plenty to complain about on the communication front, but why do folks have to stretch to add things to complaint about? Show me a recruit who will be even remotely swayed by the fact that he doesn't know who the Director of Basketball Ops and the Video Coordinator are, and I will show you a recruit that has some seriously odd priorities.

Who said it would help with recruiting directly? So all these other programs, many of which that are outperforming Gtown have these staff positions filled for the fun of it? Take a look at the staffs of other BE schools, you'll quickly see who the odd one out is..

That's fantastic, sad, humiliating and maddening - but it's in perfect keeping with the current management and structure of the program.

This brief "article" (it's pretty thin) talks about all of the things that Ewing is not when it comes to recruiting: he's not on social media, he's not a "burst into the room" type guy like Calipari, he's not interested in kissing the AAU coaches' asses. All well and good, but can you really define yourself based on what you are not, rather than what you are (or aspire to be)? Does all of this contrarian behavior add up to an actual recruiting strategy?

He has coached in the league. He has developed himself and players in the league. My guess is that is his pitch. Calipari, Boeheim, Both Miller's, Alford, Williams, Self, K....no one else can tell guys that. That is what he is right now.

I think that is spot on. Ewing is the one coach who can say, "You want to be a lottery pick--they invented the lottery for me."
It may or may not work, but it is a line of demarcation.

At this point I don't think that anyone outside of the actual staff knows what Coach Ewing's recruiting strategy/style is, or will be, going forward. To some degree I am sure it is still developing and will evolve over the next few years. What we do know is that he has had some success with what he is saying to the recruits who have commited for the 2017 season. He had to have something to sell Sodom, Blair and then Jarmarko on coming to the hilltop, and whatever that was it worked with those kids. Will it work with the class of 2018? I guess we will see in the next few months, but he certainly has kids listening or Georgetown would not have made the final lists for so many recruits. If he has success with the 2018 kids with his strategy/style then that bodes well for the 2019 and beyond classes when he will have developed longer relationships with the recruits. if it doesn't work well then he will need to adjust and find a different way to attract kids. No one has ever questioned his work ethic or desire to succeed and I think he will figure out what works for him and Georgetown to reach their goals.

While Ewing may not talk to the press all that often, it does seem that he is being a lot more honest than most coaches when he does decide to do an interview. Portions of the fan base might not always like what he is saying (e.g. not feeling a need to immediately prioritize rushing out and building special relationships with local AAU coaches) , but there is something refreshing about the honesty. Hopefully there will be a segment of recruits that relate to this more honest, less calculated recruiting/coaching personality.

I see the difference in that Ewing is an NBA HOFer and coached in the League but going forward what's the middle ground in the recruiting game, if there is one?

I see the difference in that Ewing is an NBA HOFer and coached in the League but going forward what's the middle ground in the recruiting game, if there is one? Good point, that was an issue for Williams. No way of knowing if Ewing's approach/personality will work in modern recruiting. But Georgetown has never really played the recruiting game in the same way as other major programs. JTIII came the closest, but even he did not really embrace the idea of working DC area AAU coaching circuit nearly as aggressively as most other coaches. Some of hIs assistants (particularly Broadus and Kirby) worked in this more modern manner, but JTIII himself always seemed a bit distant from this aspect of recruiting. We still had some success in the expanded DC area early on, but this dropped off the more we failed in the post season (and then regular season). It seems pretty clear that Ewing/Georgetown are going to do things their own way. So rather than complain about the program's unwillingness to play the recruiting game in the same way as most other programs, I guess I'll just root for Ewing's approach to connect with a certain segment of strong recruits.

The problem is unless you are Kentucky, Duke, or a few others, 95% of the players you are recruiting have no chance to be lotto picks. Of course, I am sure many kids think they are lotto pick potential even though they aren't, but unless we get to the point where we are recruiting at the highest level (and I firmly believe that won't happen unless we win a lot), most of the guys we are recruiting aren't going to be even remotely the level of a lotto pick.

But of those 95% of kids that have no chance, around 70% of them do believe they have a chance of being a lotto pick. Which is the problem and the point.
