We'll see how this works out, but not contacting the movers and shakers in the DC basketball community is not a smart move, and that's putting it as mildly as I can. There is a difference between saying, "Hey, nice to meet you, this is what our program is about and here is what we can do for _______ on and off the court" and kissing the ring. It's a slap in the face to ignore such people for so long.
The DMV is unarguably one of the best basketball recruiting beds in America. It would be like a new Texas Longhorns football coach ignoring HS football movers and shakers in Austin and San Antonio.
If GU hired ANY other coach, this board would be making a much bigger stink about this, especially since the staff doesn't have a single DMV recruiting stud and we're already seeing what Broadus is doing for The University of Maryland University College.

Do you guys have any idea how many "movers and shakers", many of them self-identified, are lurking in and around the DC high school and AAU scene? Without some full accounting of Ewing and his assistants' phone records and schedules, it's impossible to know what sort of outreach they've done. Walker has stayed with his commitment and Pickett has signed up ... not bad ... two really good DCIAA kids in '17. The whole analysis article is based on the news article ... it's a closed loop of information. It also sounds like we are hot on the trail of Xavier Johnson out of O'Connell ... another local kid.

Let's look at the actual article again, so we don't end up writing our own incorrect narrative: "Besides, he says, he has spent most of the past four months traveling the country to reintroduce himself to college basketball and learning the important figures within its complicated ecosystem, a crash course in the subtleties of the college game and, yes, making his way through a list of Washington movers and shakers — many of whom could have expectations Ewing may or may not be willing to fulfill.
“I’ve reached out to all of them,” he says. “But I also feel that — and I have reached out to maybe not all of them but most of them. Maybe I’ve missed a few. I doubt it, but I’d say I’ve reached out to most of them.”"So let's be clear...Ewing says he HAS actually reached out to most of them, if not all. He has NOT ignored them. Please don't invent a world where Ewing is slapping faces of the poor AAU coaches and treating them like they don't exist. His own words say that isn't true.

Centercourt- have you read this article/ listened to the podcast? www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2017/08/22/can-patrick-ewing-revolutionize-college-basketball-recruiting/?utm_term=.1b543908d156"“If you read the story, I talked to a lot of guys and the one person I sort of blindly quote is not alone. There are a lot of people in the AAU scene, in particular in the D.C. area, who are very frustrated because they haven’t heard from Patrick Ewing yet...And I don’t mean they haven’t been wined and dined by him — I mean they haven’t heard from him. And I think that’s really jarring to a lot of these guys who, when others coaches in this region get jobs, they spend the first couple of weeks reaching out, seeing who is important seeing who can help them, seeing who wants to invest in whatever program they want to be a part of.”

Like I said, consider the source(s). Why would someone make that up? While this gets Georgetown fans riled up a bit, nobody outside our small orbit cares about this at all.

So we can choose to believe Ewing, who is quoted as saying says he has reached out to most of the "movers and shakers", or the unnamed and un-numbered "a lot of people in the AAU scene" who the article/podcast says claim they have not been contacted. Its a clear choice to make and I'll choose to believe Ewing. Why? I have no reason to not believe him, and his reputation as a player and a coach is one of honesty and straightforwardness. So will take his word over secondhand statements attributed to men who work in a system that is, how shall I say it... not known for it's integrity.

I thought I saw a few pictures of a bunch of kids, looked to be high school kids, hanging around the gym and the locker room. the picture said it was an entire AAU team. That seems to be reaching out to someone.

I find it hard to credit unnamed sources. Who are these people? What if any relationships do they have with other programs? Do they have a motive to discredit GU and PE? Are they in fact small potatoes types that are miffed? Are any of them shady people whom PE may intentiionallly steer clear of? A basic concept of determining the truth is an evaluation of the speaker's credibility. If these people will not even identify themselves, how can anyone be sure of their credibility?
The objective evidence will govern the success of PE. It will take at least two recruiting classes to determine this.

From what I recall EVERYONE wanted Patrick to hire an asst with strong DMV contacts. When he did not, many here decided it did not matter. Patrick knows a bit more than me about hoops, but from common sense standpoint not sure why it is not a good thing for a brand new college coach to have someone on staff with strong local recruiting ties.

Hard to distinguish the "fans" from the true fans of the team. No coach in the country has the NBA pedigee as a former player that these recruits dream about more than Coach Ewing. The staff has reached out to local aau teams, invited whole teams, local players on campus and will continue to. "Fans" are now ripping the schedule. Remember when we got blown out by wisconsin and oklahoma st last yr on national tv(espn)..and we were supposed to good then. Expectations are "low" this yr and now "fans" are complaining because our schedule may not be tough. Smh. Give Coach Ewing the chance to fulfill his vision and support the team. Quit throwing shade.

No coach in the country has the NBA pedigree as a former player that these recruits dream about more than Coach Ewing. Today's high school juniors were two and three years old when Patrick Ewing retired from the NBA. They can certainly respect a Patrick Ewing or a Chris Mullin, but they didn't grow up with him. They dream about being the next Lebron or Kobe or Kevin Durant. That may not be fair, but it's the march of time.

soundcloud.com/washington-post/episode-78-the-washingtonThe podcast was an interesting listen.. Babb says that a key figure in the local aau scene actually reached out to Ewing after PE never tried to contact him.. He stated again that many of the local guys are pulling for PE to do well at Gtown but they're frustrated with his approach.. I'm kinda surprised alums aren't concerned or upset with the "Gtown will be an NBA farm system" approach that's being pushed in the article & podcast, thought the Calipari method would never fly on the Hilltop? Not sure how it will play long term but I like the fact he's carving his own path, I hope it continues in other areas of the program..
