Either this site is not Georgetown, or there is little to no interest in G'town women's soccer....C'mon this is a team that won the Big East for the first time, went to the Final Four for the first time, and no interest when the team travels 2500 miles to play top 4 or so Stanfurd. So you have a men's BB team that may or may not be good with Coach Ewing. A FB team that is not the center of the world. A men's soccer team that has been good, may be good, but was so-so last year. Is there any NCAA interest on the Hill? Lonely, when you are not a grad, and posting with yourself. School spirit dead and gone? Believe me, I'm interested! I'm also a contractor for FEMA and, well, we've been a tad bit occupied this week... :/ I have a fellow devotee, but he's in the University's employ and has to stay in lurker mode around these parts. Kudos to The Voice for devoting some electronic inches to the ladies, e.g. georgetownvoice.com/2017/08/27/no-11-womens-soccer-routs-loyola-maryland-at-home/ The Hoya, meanwhile, appears to still be on summer break as far as its coverage of campus sports is concerned. I certainly do wish there was more interest, both on this site and on campus. What would it take to get a patented Chris Grosse Theater of the Absurd Sports Promotion for a women's game? I dunno. Women's sports continue to be a tough sell, but considering that the Washington Spirit manage to draw north of 3,500 per match out to Boyds (https://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2017-nwsl-attendance/), the Hoyas should be able to get more live eyeballs than they've been seeing. Would also be nice for Hoya Blue to do something for one of the marquee games, like Rutgers or St. John's. The 25th anniversary is a nice story, but I'm afraid that, absent some dedicated attention on it from various University promotional organs, it will pass by with nary a non-diehard noticing.

FWIW, my listings show "the 12 greatest Colorado football players" as airing instead of this game on the PAC12 channel. The game is on -- but not until a rerun on Tuesday. Maybe they air different stuff depending on where you are -- I'm not on the west coast or near DC.

I know people are looking (it is listed on the page), but mostly not responding. That's okay, I just like to get the information out. I just I follow soccer, men's and women's, and have been happy with their results over the last year or two.

That's certainly how I'm going to do it given how bloody hot it is out there today.

4-0 Stanford. The first half was fairly even. 1-0 Cardinal and they had a 9-8 advantage in shots. But they dominated the second half. Outshot 12-0. I didn't see the game, so maybe the stats don't tell the real story. Regardless, the key will be how they bounce back.

Yeah, I mean, Stanford is just on another level talent-wise. Was true last year, remains true this year. Doesn't mean they're unbeatable, but it would take a lot to bridge that gap.
As we saw last year, getting smoked by the Cardinal is no obstacle to a highly successful season. Learn from it, but keep the focus on the next game up.
For comparison, DePaul is sitting at 2-3, with road losses to Northwestern, Illinois, and Purdue. After a trip to #12 Texas A&M on Sunday, they'll likely be 2-4. Marquette was also the recipient of a 4-0 thumping by Stanford, only at home; they are undefeated otherwise. St. John's is the only Big East team without a loss, but they haven't played anyone of note. Point being: the conference, including that elusive regular season title, remains firmly in the Hoyas grasp if they maintain their composure and effort.

I watched the game. Was very even in the first half. Even the first part of the second half, but once Stanford got that second goal it was like the flood gates opened and the Hoyas wilted.

While not ideal, this result, at this time, can be a very useful coaching tool and a good bar for the ladies to set.

Sac and the Valley is one thing - it gets up into the hundreds on the regular. But San Francisco? Wild - and not in a good way. In any case, the Hoyas should by all rights be more acclimated to that kind of heat than Bay Area teams.

Hard to tell how much to take away from the Hoyas 3-0 victory in record-shatteringly hot weather at San José State (Suggested New Moto: Fear the ¡Tilde!.)
The home side came out looking sharper and more assertive, which isn't surprising, since their Friday game against Rice was cancelled for obvious reasons. The Hoyas looked a little ragged...until suddenly they were up 1-0, as Meaghan Nally took a pass off a short corner and lobbed it over the keeper from outside the 18. Heck of a shot from a fullback! After that, while the Spartans remained game, they were completely incoherent in their attack and could not put any pressure on the Hoyas goal. In the final minutes of the first, Carson Nizialek launched a ballistic missile from near the same spot as the first goal, only even further out. Two remarkable strikes! Possibly the keeper was cheating too far outside her box, which tempted both Hoyas into taking a crack from distance. Not the most advisable thing for a goalie to do if you're 5'7.
The second was more even, although the home team was really still searching for ideas on the offensive end and finding none. Caitlin Farrell put the finishing touch on the game with a quarter hour remaining, streaking down the left flank and lifting a... well, I'm pretty sure it was meant to be a cross for Chloe Knott, who was making a run inside and well-positioned to get a head on it. Instead, it carried further, struck the far post, and bounced in. A third long-distance bomb.
Unfortunately, Amanda Carolan was helped off the field with what looked to be a nasty leg injury. Hoping for the best for her.
Given the conditions and the difference in rest, I'd say my main takeaways are that 1) San Jose State is offensively inept and 2) the Hoyas showed good mental toughness to bounce back from the tough outing on Friday, not letting an inferior team hang around.
Elsewhere, St. John's took their first loss of the season, falling to Harvard in Double OT in a neutral site game at Central Connecticut State. The Hoyas opponent next Sunday, the always tough Rutgers, is off to a 5-0 start and has not given up a single goal this season.

Horribly hot weekend in Palo Alto. FYI these temperatures rarely happen in Palo Alto. If you go East a bit to Danville, Walnut Creek yes, but Palo Alto this was freakish. The first half of the Stanfurd game was pretty even. I was told by a Stanfurd fan that when they saw us bunker in more on defense they knew the game was theirs. Move it up into our zone and attack. But what was said above is so true. Our ladies are very, very good and this team is backfilled quite nicely, but at this point Stanfurd is a jump ahead of us. If you saw replays of the goals their possession as well as their crosses for scores were painful, but beautiful soccer. Passing was "ball on a string" accurate by the Trees. This level of competition sets us up nicely for anything that comes our way in the BEAST. It looks like it is DePaul and Marquette right now.
Getting a goal quickly in the SJSU game was big. First, it flushed the feelings of losing two days earlier, but in the intense heat made them come at us. We then continued on them as Stanfurd had on us. Good seasoning weekend for the team. This team will only get better with time. The injury to Amanda Carolan was tough to see. Recover quickly Amanda.
Notes so far: Every game has been a shutout so far---either we win by shutout or our opponents do. Thirteen goals for us against five for our opponents. Everyone is getting playing time for experience. Only losses have been to a #1 team at the time and a #3 (or #5 depending on service) team. Not bad. RPI must be very good even with a 4-2 record. Go Hoyas.
So glad to get out of the heat. Dry heat, but just plain hot and oppressive. San Francisco, with its fog, is an entirely different climate belt than the rest of the Bay Area FYI. However it was even hot there this weekend.

Caught a decent chunk of the St. Francis game over the feed. Definitely not the same team that hung tough with the Hoyas in the first round of last year's NCAA tournament. This was domination from start to finish. Unfortunately, some injuries are starting to pile up... At least we know Arielle will be well-rested after this one!

Scoreless draw against the Scarlet Knights, who look like they could give Penn State a run for their money in the B1G. About as entertaining of a game as you can hope for with that as the final result.
However much worse St. Francis got since last year's meeting in the tournament, Rutgers appears to have gotten that much better. A big, strong team that plays a very composed and disciplined style. With a Hermann Trophy candidate in goal. No wonder they haven't given up a single goal in 7 games. They did a good job of funneling the Hoyas flankers to the corners, where they were met with 2, 3, or even 4 defenders, making it very difficult to get off a cross or even earn a corner off of a deflection. The Hoyas might've benefited from playing a bit more direct in this game... but on the other hand, they did come within centimeters of scoring on several occasions, so the existing strategy almost succeeded as it is.
The Hoyas have one non-conference game left, a road tilt at Towson that should serve as a good, competitive cap to the 'preseason.' No matchups against U-20 squads from nations in the bottom quartile of the Human Development Index this time around (miss you, PNG). The Big East looms on the horizon, with Marquette sitting at 7-1 and looking like the team to beat. DePaul has evened their record to 4-4, now that they're actually back playing home games again, and will almost certainly be 6-4 by the time they host the Hoyas on Thursday, September 28th. Butler has reeled off 5 wins in a row, including a hugely impressive 2-0 defeat of #10 Texas A&M in College Station. If anything, the league as a whole looks stronger than last season.

Good opener to the Big East season for the Hoyas, as they collect a 1-0 home victory over a St. John's squad that was content to defend all day and had the pieces in place to pull that off for most of the match. Not much of an offensive look from the Johnnies, but they did well to disrupt most of the Hoyas chances through sheer force of numbers and perseverance. I think the Red Storm gameplan was "stay behind the ball and grind for a draw or a lucky counter" all along, even before one of the SJU midfielders came off 10 minutes in with what looked to be a really severe leg injury - probably torn _CL(s) involved.
9-0 disparity in shots on goal, and 17-3 in total shots. Probability would dictate that such a lopsided engagement should see at least one score, and it took a horrendous goal kick and a crafty chip shot to make it happen, but that's ok:
Considering that it was August hot in late September, you take this result gladly. Gotta get the full three points at home every time if you want to win the league.

So, it seems as if there is interest here. For a while I felt I was mirroring myself except for Russky.
As noted in a previous post, this team is good. How good is the question? Top ten out of 334 teams, maybe. Yesterday they methodically tore DePaul apart. The goals were things of beauty from a team that has been winning by shutout consistently. Getting Amanda Carolan back in the mix did more to stimulate the net attack. After the first 15 minutes, DePaul looked very much like their record---average. The ladies played a hard fought pretty flawless game, and now still have every game (win, tie or loss) ending in a shutout. Nine shutouts for us in eleven games. A few high goal scoring games against earlier weaker opponents, but they raised the bar yesterday. This is the growth that the season rolling out brought to our relatively new front line. It is playing out like I imagine Coach Nolan had seen and anticipated.
Not only have we beat a formidable foe in DePaul but the whole Big East is wacky after two games. Two teams at the top---G'town and Xavier-- with six points, and everyone else falling far behind (especially Marquette and DePaul).
So coming up we have what have been the "cupcakes". It is hard to tell if they are still same because of the upsets in the Big East, but our ladies should be able to comfortably coast for next three games, hopefully with no letdown.
Another nice factor is that DePaul is the only midweek roadie this year. The rest are on Sundays later in the season. Having St. Johns and DePaul in the rear view mirror with two wins is nice.
