Disagree- at their current level I believe each would dominate. But Mac likely is ahead of all of them, especially as a scorer, as to their senior years in high school. Yeah considering Mulmore averaged 26/game (IIRC) in JUCO I think he could score 40 easy against low level HS competition. That being said I can't imagine Mac being any worse than Mulmore at this point but it's not like Mulmore was considered a decent HS recruit. I agree with the first part, those kids would dominate in HS also, but if Mulmore was playing in HS at his current level he would be considered a very good HS recruit. You're comparing a senior in College vs a Senior in HS. Put another way, if this was Mulmore's freshman season folks would be a lot higher on him obviously.

Tyler Crawford played at the same va state classification level as Mac. Tyler dominated averaging 25ppg and 10rbg so it's probably wise to pump the breaks on Mac. Now having said that, its pretty clear that Mac has major upside. Yes, he has plenty of things he needs to improve but if he continues to grind away, I think he gets there.
Btw, I am encouraged with how Mac did against Fern City. They are one of the best teams in Kentucky and were one of the pre tournament favorites along with North Mecklenburg. He dominated them while being guarded by a d-1 commit.

I just did a quick check on Fern Creek. They are pre-season #4 in Kentucky, and just won a big early-season tourney final against the #1 team in the state.
Their starting PG is on the Mr. Basketball list & headed to Samford next year, and they have a couple of other seniors who expect to play at the next level (2* types).
That's a nice 44.

Love it! Mac is a marked man every game he plays. All of his 3s and 2s are contested, yet he has the right moves, step-backs and fakes to give himself some daylight. He just needs a very small window. Imagine if Mac is given the space our guards are receiving now! He'll score in bunches. All-BE rookie team. He'll be Govan's best friend.

Sorry to be the glass half empty guy, but I've been running through this thread in an effort to see why we should be so enthusiastic about the kid. Mix tapes against a certain level of competition only take you so far. And if he's a combo guard as opposed to a PG, that's OK too provided he contributes. But how often do the recruiting evaluators really miss by this much (top 100 nowhere)? At the high major level, you can win with well-coached three-stars, but you generally don't build around them or rely on them for essential roles. Virtually all of the impressions of Mac (the most recent tournament notwithstanding) are based on a certain (low?)level of competition, combined with his (non-starring) role with Loaded. I'll welcome him to the team, but I'm wondering if we're not getting ahead of ourselves in talent evaluation. What is missing from his game? He's got elevation on his jump shot, he's got an incredible amount of athleticism, he has creativity, he's strong, he has a decent mid-range game, he passes - the argument against him is basically rankings and competition but I haven't heard anyone make an argument about what specific skills this kid lacks. There's enough youtube evidence out there that this kid has some pretty good skills and great athleticism. At very worst - he's an upgrade over Blair. I have no idea how many shot attempts he's taking to score 40 points because I cannot find a Gate City box score, but Blair is a horribly inefficient player who doesn't have McClung's athleticism. I can't think of a thing that Blair does that McClung cannot do. We still need a floor general PG.

Blair is a pure SG. I don't think you are going to see him bringing up the ball. McClung on the other hand, is a capable ball handler and playmaker. They actually make a good backcourt pair. Both can score a number of ways. I am all for adding an additional PG.

Replace Blair with McClung, Pickett with Allen, and add a good PG and increase Mosely's minutes to upgrade over Mulmore and Dickerson and we would have something competitive next year.

Blair and Pickett are freshmen adjusting to the college game. Both will be key pieces going forward IMHO. They both have good strokes- their misses even look good. 😉 Doesn't mean we don't need more help, because we do. Also, I don't see Blair as a starter.

As for McClung, I see Waters as a good comparison and not Peak/Crawford.

Exactly, those two kids can indeed play, and will be huge going forward for us, not next, but THIS year.
It's imperative that we land not just a point guard, but a damn good one. We have enough tweeners and average to below average players. We need a top flight pg back on the Hilltop, like yesterday.

We don’t need a top flight pg, we just need a guy that can make the right pass and hit a open jump shot

Watching the highlights from this Arby's tournament has me pretty excited. He's showing out. Putting up great numbers, hitting shots from all over the court. And I'm sure he's being double and triple teamed.
I still think we need a top flight point guard to pair him with. Don't get me wrong, I think McClung has point skills, but we need another skilled guard. You put him in the back-court with a fast, skilled ball-handler who can penetrate and push the pace....that would be something.

Think he replied back... "I'm going to start!"
Gotta love his confidence...

That coach has obviously not seen our 2018-2019 roster depth chart.

I don’t know why people think this kid can’t get in the lane and when he does he’s very crafty. He already has a pull-up better than anybody on the team. OT what kind of punk coach would say that to a kid, guess the same one that would pick those uniforms
