On that note, how about TJ Berger as a preferred walkon. I don't think he took an official and if his family could have afforded Penn, I assume they can make Georgetown work? Maybe we should just wait and see how everything plays out before determining that certain recruits already promised a scholarship should no longer get it and making assumptions about family financials? What's that saying again?? These things have a way of working themselves out!?! Oh, we're not supposed to talk about the basketball team on the basketball board? In no way had I advocated pulling a scholarship from a player, if anyone has a scholarship offer then they count against the scholarship counter. My point was in asking if anyone heard if TJ was a scholarship player since his recruitment was not a typical one. Things will work themselves out but there is no wrong discussing how they could work out. Especially since Pat is clearly still hitting the recruiting trail hard despite starting to fill up on commitments.

We don't know who has a scholarship but TJ's father sold a company that he co-founded for over 300 million doesn't take a salary as a basketball coach for Westtown either. If TJ went to Penn he was paying full freight.

I thought it was already confirmed that Berger was on scholarship. YaBoy said that in the TJ Berger thread.
Really wish the program would announce LOI like everyone else.

There goes that train of thought. Does this necessarily mean that he's on a scholarship for 4 years, though? In other words, is it a guarantee that he is a "counter" for the duration of his time on the team even if he were to pay his own tuition in subsequent years? Hypothetically it's possible to envision a scenario where a player is not formally recruited as a scholarship player (ie. no official visit) and comes in as a preferred walk-on, but then a scholarship opens up for him as a freshman. Does he then have to be on scholarship for the remainder of his tenure (or at least count as a scholarship player)? I didn't think so, and so it would be possible under certain circumstances for a player to be on a scholarship as a freshman but then pay their own tuition and not count against the limit in some or all of his subsequent years, but I don't really have any basis for that. In any event, I think it's all highly speculative. The roster will almost definitely look different at this time next year than what we expect right now. Imagine if we tried to predict our July 2020 roster at this time last year! We were so focused on a future of Mackinjo, LeBlanc and Terrence Williams. While the kind of attrition we had was uncommon, in a world where transfers may no longer need to sit out a year and where a global pandemic is reshaping so much of society, it's probably harder to predict the next year than it was the last For now I think it's impractical for most of us to try to count scholarships--we know we still have at least a couple to give out, so let's hope we're continuing to pursue the best available players. Everything else will work itself out.

Everything else will work itself out. I have no idea whether Georgetown offers anything more than the more common one year renewable athletic scholarships. The NCAA has allowed colleges to provide multiyear scholarships since 2012. Additionally, in 2015, NCAA D1 colleges from the Power Five conferences (colleges in the Football Bowl Subdivision, plus Notre Dame) agreed to implement a rule that prevented multi-year D1 scholarships from being canceled or not renewed for any athletic reason. So, yes, there are athletic scholarships that are guaranteed for four years, but they are not the norm outside of powerhouse football programs. While the practice of extending multi-year, athletic scholarships has been growing, it is largely dependent on whether specific programs and coaches are open to offering them. www.sportsengine.com/article/are-athletic-scholarships-guaranteed-4-years

I don't think it matters if the player had an official visit or not if they sign a LOI. If they sign a LOI, they count as a recruited player. Once a player is a counter, I think there's a few exceptions (coach leaves, incapacitation) but otherwise that player is a counter.

With Beard & Riley already in and Billigsley predicted (no jinx), it's amazing how nicely Frankie C & Ryan would fit into the class. Our own little Fab Five if you will...
PG - Collins SG - Beard SF - Riley PF - Billingsley C - Mutombo
I'm not predicting anything or working out roster depth or scholarship count. I just like the symmetry and feel of that.

Yes, it would be nice, but I would like to have 1 scholarship available for a stud too. So, for me, it’s first come, first serve for the first four scholarships. It’s the last scholarship that is the question. Then again, in these crazy times, who knows if we have transfers without playing one game and another scholarship becomes available.

Just start with all 347 teams (not sure how you fit them into the graphic but some 11 year old can figure it out).
Then drop one team a day.
