Good to see us offer 2021 PG Darius Johnson from Episcopal. Not ranked right now but recently offered by Alabama and Florida after having received offers from Wake and Seton Hall in the spring. Recruitment trending upwards. Some highlights from a game last year: Did y’all think we will push or was just a offer?

“UConn, Maryland, Indiana, Florida, Villanova, Tennessee, Auburn, Rutgers and Memphis are amongst those those still involved,” Patterson told Stockrisers.com. One new name involved in his recruitment: Arkansas. Razorbacks head coach Eric Musselman virtually visited campus with Patterson earlier last week and would end up extending an offer to Patterson. Patterson is amongst the highly-touted prospects that have completed virtual campus meetings and/or staff meetings through video chat applications. He’s completed several of them. Amongst the ones he completed: “I’ve had zoom calls with UConn, Maryland, Indiana, Florida, Memphis and Villanova over the past few weeks.” stockrisers.com/2020/05/11/top-20-junior-trey-patterson-talks-recruitment-virtual-visit-spree/The 6-foot-8 Patterson is a combo forward from the state of New Jersey who recently focused on a group of 10 schools. Included in that final list is Villanova, Indiana, Memphis, Florida, Connecticut, Maryland, Tennessee, Rutgers, Auburn and Arkansas. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Trey-Patterson-top-40-commitment-date-Indiana-Villanova-Rutgers-Florida-Maryland-147815264/Villanova has done its best work on the floor riding the talent of the best within its region which should bring even greater optimism to the Big East program following today’s news. Trey Patterson, a top-30 prospect from the 2021 class and a native of nearby Somerset, New Jersey, gave his verbal commitment to Jay Wright and his staff. “I feel like Nova and their system is the best fit for me. I’ve built a relationship with Jay Wright and the coaching staff. They have a history of a winning culture and I feel like they can help me develop my game and ultimately reach the next level,” Patterson told Rivals.com about his decision. “I’ve seen a bunch of small forwards come out of Nova and be successful in the NBA over the past couple of years, and that’s exactly what I envision for myself.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/villanova-wins-out-with-top-30-forward-trey-pattersonThere isn’t a school that seems to get more players that are perfect fits than Villanova. Trey Patterson fits what the Wildcats are known for absolutely perfectly. Jay Wright does his best staying within the region with players who bring toughness and versatility to the table. Go ahead and take it to the bank that Patterson will be really productive for Villanova and probably win a ton of games. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/mcdonald-s-nuggets-most-important-2021-commit-more

Watched several clips of Malachi Smith. Wow, kid is impressive. He is a bucket getter who isnt a super leaper or super fast just knows how to find ways to score and pass the ball, and very nice jumper. I hope he comes here badly. He seems like the perfect 2Guard if he grew 2 inches.

2. What 2021 player is racking up offers that you wish you could have seen this summer?
Bossi: One of the most intense debates during our rankings updates was what to do with Wisconsin power forward James Graham. At 6-foot-8 he appears to have some inside/out game and fits the mold of what teams are looking for in a four man who can stretch the floor on offense and help control the glass on defense. But, we've not been able to evaluate him in person so we decided to hold off on a ranking until we could get a live viewing. That being said, programs such as Arizona State, Auburn, Butler, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia, Iowa, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier have all offered in the six weeks, and made him one of the most heavily recruited.
Evans: Angelo Brizzi has been a heavily dissected and offered prospect this spring. Prior to the quarantine, his recruitment was littered with Atlantic 10, Ivy and Patriot League programs. Now, it is a national, high-major affair that includes Arizona, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, Villanova and Virginia Tech on his offer list. Brizzi seems open to all newcomers. He is someone that might be better at some respective systems compared to others but is a good-sized guard that can play on and off the ball, brings toughness to the backcourt and can make shots which is why his recruitment has soared in recent months.
McDonald: Ryan Mutombo has added several offers from high-major programs since the shutdown in March with Arizona being the most recent earlier this week. I was really looking forward to seeing how he fared this travel season because he has come such a long way in the past year. I love that he views himself as a center, which is rare these days because all centers want to be power forwards just like all power forwards want to be small forwards. He’s also continued to work to where he can make mid-range jumpers and hits most of his free throws. He’s put on more than 35 pounds in the last year. On the recruiting front, his list includes Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.

Dear Coach Ewing if you should see this message, I believe that I have the remedy to help get the local kids to stick with Georgetown. Just like when you decided to come to DC to play with Coach Thompson and the Hoyas, you like what you saw in the Hoyas. Most kids, in the local area and beyond, like the fact that they could be playing for a legend in you. That fact you can capitalize on and have been capitalizing on, I know. However, I believe, there is one most important ingredient that you guys may or may not be including in your recruiting pitch to have the locals want to come and play for the Hoyas. That ingredient or selling point that you MIGHT BE missing coach is to sell the local kids on staying home to play for a DC school.
Listen to what I am saying Coach. You see I gave the spill of how you and Coach Thompson made all innercity kids from all over the country feel about Georgetown. Georgetown back then stood for pride. Pride was a key selling point, at least I believe. You have got to bring that pride back but in a different way. Today, the kids, I believe still have pride in DC. DC has a rich culture with sports and music and plus it is a beautiful city with plenty of resources. Local kids, as well as kids from all over the country can relate to DC's music culture and it's sports culture. However, this is about selling the local kids on playing for Georgetown "The DC school".
Coach when you came here, we had great local talent in guys like Gene Smith, Ed Spriggs, Eric Smith, Mike Hancock that help support you and Sleepy Floyd. In the year you came, Coach Thompson had recruited Billy Martin and Anthony "Reds" Jones, two of the top talents in DC in that time and later added Michael Graham, another DC high school basket legend. In the earlier years you had local DC greats such as John "Bay Bay" Duren, Craig Shelton, Al Dutch, Bill Lynn, Craig Esherick and Mike Riley. Up the beltway, Coach Thompson snatched up great players like Ed Hopkins, David Wingate, Reggie Williams, Ralph Dalton and Michael Jackson. Later came DC guys like Victor Page, Charles Smith, Don Reid Mark Tillmon, Lonnie Harrel, Irvin Church, Robert Churchwell, Ruben etc. There were other great DC players subsequently and I am no way purposedly leaving them out but this is about the Coach Thompson years.
Coach, you and the staff have got to market Georgetown as "the DC School" and build pride in that. I believe this is one way you can get the kids from DC and the local surrounding areas to want to stay home and play for the Hoyas. We have got to get these great kids from the local area, Bmore and VA to pick Georgetown again just like they did when you were a player. Maryland doesn't have anything culturally greater than Georgetown because Georgetown has DC! No way should we be losing local recruits to Maryland University.
Recruiting staff have got to bring back some of the DC Hoyas legends, Gene and Eric Smith, recent stars like Chris Wright, Austin Freeman, Jason Clark, Henry Simms and Markel Starks to help with the efforts of selling DC pride to the kids. These guys should help to sway the locals and the beltway players with just thier presence. You rebuild the Hoya brand by selling Georgetown as "the DC School" and use DC as the "loyalty" to help rebuild the brand. The University itself should build slogans around it being "the DC School" and build marketing around it.
If you can get a few great local talent to stay home, you can begin that local pipeline again like you guys had it in the 70's and 80's. After that you get some great outside recuit(s) to come here, just like when you chose to come to Georgetown and we are back in business baby! That should be the formula coach. I hope you read this post and I hope your guys can come up with the formula to sell Georgetown as "the DC School". There is no reason why we can't have a monopoly on the local kids which are the best amateur basketball players in the country just like Coach Thompson did during your time (the Hoya's heyday).

Three-star wing Casey Simmons likely would have been one of the few trending names after the evaluation periods last month but despite the recruiting shutdown, he still found a way to catch the attention of a number of high-major coaching staffs.
Simmons’ junior high school season tape shows his improved perimeter jumpshot, his size and length and also his positional versatility.
Running with the Mass Rivals program, Simmons already held offers from Brown, Northwestern, Penn, Rhode Island, Temple and Yale coming into April, and had taken unofficial visits to Penn, Rhode Island, Temple and Yale within the past year.
His recruitment took a change for the better last week with offers from Boston College, Georgetown and Texas, and it won’t be long before more high-majors jump into the picture. Miami, Pitt, UConn and Xavier have also expressed interest.
Simmons is not anywhere near deciding, but he was hoping to take official visits to Northwestern and Penn this spring before the pandemic hit. Once on and off campus recruiting is allowed, Simmons might be one of the more recruited prospects in the region.Definitely shows what his priorities may be in choosing a program... Name: Casey Simmons Offers: Boston College, Georgetown, Miami, Xavier, Texas, Penn State, Northwestern, Iona, Rhode Island A big-time athlete, Simmons began to breakout last July while playing with the Mass Rivals on the adidas circuit. With a lot of interest already, that interest turned into offers as Simmons saw his list really explode during the months of April and May. Now nearing double figure offers, Simmons is someone who has his choice of numerous quality options. He has the size and athleticism to defend virtually anywhere, along with good feel for the game. Now his outside shot is beginning to develop, and even though he wasn’t on the circuit this spring, coaches have decided he is worth an offer. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/LongFormArticle/Basketball-recruiting-Kansas-Villanova-Rahsool-Diggins-North-Carolina-DMarco-Dunn-Xavier-Texas-Illinois-Jahmai-Mashack-147383306/#147383306_3One of the best athletes on the East Coast has decided to officially narrow his list down to seven schools. On Monday evening, Casey Simmons decided to cut his list down to a manageable number, and seven schools are now on the list. The schools making the cut for Simmons are Boston College, Miami, Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Texas, Princeton and Yale. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Casey-Simmons-basketball-recruiting-Pittsburgh-Boston-College-Northwestern-Texas-Miami-148444099/

In a perfect world, that'd be our class right there. Maybe switch in a PF for Allen. Akoldah Gak? Collins/Harris Mohammed/Beard/Berger Clark/Holloway Sibley/Gak Wahab/Igohoefe/Mutombo/Wilson That's all I'm asking for.

I applaud the post about DC recruiting. Such a load of top talent here. We "owned" the DC and Baltimore area in the past, when we were a great program. Let's work to develop the reputation that we lost under III's later years and have yet to regain under Coach Ewing. If Patrick can restore our reputation with our local kids, we'll be well on our way back.

Positive spin "We got a start to the 2021 class"
Shoutout to whoever mentioned this in the earlier thread, hopefully, I remember to edit this and give you credit.
EDIT: The rumor was about Beard decommitting, which is not accurate. Thanks to SDHoya for also pointing this out.
But, for a kid who's going to be let in either way on a full scholarship, this decision makes sense. It's playing the safe card with not much to lose. I respect it. Hopefully this propels a start to the 2021 class, especially if Beard is correctly (IMO) moved up to top 100 for the 2021 class.

As excited as I am to see him at Georgetown, I think this is a good choice. A lot of uncertainty around next season, don't blame him for taking this route whatsoever. Also good (as a fan) to have this 'rumor' situation sorted out Definitely helps with class balance too. Here's his statement on Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/CB3knPrFctH
