We need scoring from the guard positions this year. 100% agree. The bigger question is where is the shooting coming from? My biggest hope is that Mosely can improve over last year and someone else will step up. The problem is we don't have many options. While I do think the guards have to shoot better, I think more importantly, they have to set teammates up better, as I see the bigs doing most of the "shooting" -- that would, in turn open driving lanes for the guards, and I think that is where they can do far more real scoring damage, anyway. Marcus and Jamarko having a consistent outside touch, and Govan being able to keep defenses honest outside, while also working on a low-post game, I think will be the things that drive our offense this year, allowing our guards much more room to operate inside, sort of opposite the "old school" style of the bigs down low opening things up for the little outside shooters.

Relying on your bigs to shoot from deep is not a great long-term winning strategy in college. Need guards that can nail open threes. Otherwise, teams will just pack it in and dare our guards to shoot.

I'm hoping Trey Dickerson can help with outside shooting, since his stats last season from outside were similar to LJ Peak (34 out of 102 vs 33 out of 101, granted different level of competition) and hopefully he has improved since last year.

Agree that Dickerson might be a difference maker, so might Mosely if he found his shot this summer. For whatever reason, I am not confident Mulmore will ever become an outside threat, just felt like his shot mechanics were not going to straighten themselves out though it would be great if I was wrong and he could hit 1 or 2 a game on 3 or 4 3FGAs, just to keep them honest. Pickett, Derrickson, Johnson and Blair (who has a pure lefty stroke) though can all stretch defenses and help us avoid the paint packing that hurt our drivers last year.

We really need a set of 5 guys who can go out there and be a scoring threat from their position, whatever it is. Last year, defenses really keyed in on Peak and Pryor since they were the main options, and the same thing happened to DSR in previous seasons. We cannot afford to have somebody like Hayes who is ignored by the defense when he's not under the basketball, or a guard who is so bad at shooting that the opposing team doesn't bother to cover them. I am not sure we are going to be able to do that this year, since we have to work within the limits we have, but long-term we need to have guys who are competent at each position.
