This is why we can't have nice things like an on-campus arena You really have to wonder about people that have enough time and energy to be bothered about this. On a somewhat related note, I've never been able to understand the anti-student/anti-university arguments of people who decided to buy property in a neghbohood that has housed a university since 1789. Apologies if this opinion is clutter/off-topic... Rich people complain endlessly and love to exert their influence. Often use their attorneys and connections to fight their battles. Drunk college kids are making noise and peeing in my flower beds. ☹️

Acquiring this property for an arena would go a long way to shoring up the president's reputation among Hoya basketball fans.
It would also give the current generation of Hoya students the chance to give future students hell about how easy they have it with their short walk across the bridge.... like how those of us who went to Landover for games roll our eyes when students complain about the Chinatown arena with easy Metro access.

This is why we can't have nice things like an on-campus arena Too many dollars and not enough sense. Not strictly a DC thing, but the prevalence of sleazy lawyers in DC makes it easier to find someone to take up the fight for you. Actually the residents can probably get a partner from a big DC firm who lives in Georgetown to represent them pro bono. They get free legal advice and the partner can claim he completed his pro bono activity as a member of the DC Bar! A win-win. (That's not to deny that some partners in big DC firms aren't sleazy!) 😀

Apologies if this opinion is clutter/off-topic... I have long thought/voiced the same opinion. It never made any sense to me. If you don't want to live near a university, don't live in Georgetown to begin with. It's pretty simple.

"Coming to the nuisance" as a defense - like people who move in the flight path to the airport then complain about the noise. Coming to the nuisance refers to a legal doctrine which prevents a party from claiming nuisance if said nuisance was present, and the party knew of that nuisance before they acquired the property subject to the nuisance. Historically, coming to the nuisance functioned as a complete bar to a nuisance action. PS I'm not a "sleazy lawyer." I'm a retired "deep state" lawyer!

Have seen the same complaints for years with people who move near an airport, landfill, bar, etc. and then want to shut it down and have it relocated.

In Las Vegas, it was the pig farm. People moved in near the pig farm, and complained about the smell. Pig farm eventually had to move.

PLEASE, purchase the property, whatever the cost, pay over the asking price. That would be the answer to our great need for a close by arena. Don't worry about the price, just pay it or more!

Stick the transformers on remote controlled movable platforms and give the controllers to the kids. When they just happen to forget their toys in the front driveway it is age appropriate behavior and should not be punished. Just like the neighbor kid who plays baseball or football and who's ball always ends up being left in the front yard!

You can see the transformers while eating from 1789. It does kind of ruin the ambiance so the Clyde’s group is likely lobbying against it.

Defending these things seems ridiculous. But, I guess, humorous....

Even when we had Ewing and owned college basketball no one would rank the Capital Centre in Landover as a great home court. It’s just something we may never have, but doesn’t mean we can’t win Championships.

Does anyone know why Georgetown is not actively pursuing the Roslyn Marriott site for an "on Campus" arena? or are they and I just dont know? It’s owned by a developer who, presumably, has plans for the site. Are they marketing it for sale now? The development climate certainly has changed in the last year so the developer may be looking for a way out but I don’t know if that’s true.
