Evans' view: Playing in the prep side of the event a mile or two away from the Springfield College campus, coaches gathered for a viewing of Tyrin Lawrence and they did not leave unimpressed. The unranked guard out of Georgia has been a trending name within college coaching circles and rightfully so. No longer is Lawrence an undersized 2-guard but rather a more than capable combo guard that can create for others and himself. He has gotten more explosive at the basket, is beginning to shoot it better off of the perimeter and has tremendous potential as a defender. His stock is soaring after taking official visits to Cal and Gonzaga, as such others as Clemson, Ole Miss, Texas and Vanderbilt have begun to show greater attention to Lawrence. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/hoophall-classic-sunday-rival-views

Beard was sensational and part of the duo for Whitney Young with Steward. Beard’s speed and change of direction are what first caught the eyes, along with some underrated bounce in his step. With his pace, he excelled in the open floor and stayed aggressive, getting to the basket and scoring as well as distributing. He also showed his range with a little fadeaway jumper. phenomhoopreport.com/hoophall-classic-standouts-sunday-part-i/Tyler Beard, PG, Whitney Young Beard is one of the best available point guards in the 2020 recruiting class. On Sunday, Beard put together as good of a game as I’ve seen from him, scoring 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting. He also tossed out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds. A fast, aggressive guard, Beard pushed the tempo, showed value as a playmaker, got to the rim and finished and locked up on defense. To go with all of that, Beard, who isn’t known as a shooter, went 2-for-4 from three and made a mid-range jump shot. Recruiting: Has interest from California, Georgetown, Maryland, Texas A&M and FAU. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Hoophall-Classic-Zach-Clemence-Jalen-Green-Cade-Cunningham-DJ-Steward-142468910/

A few people have voiced their opinion on having a freshmen run the offense! Guess what, it happen last year and we made it to the NIT. News flash it'll probably happen next year as well so we might as well have two options, offer the kid and stop waiting for another Allen God sent transfer.

As it stands now, the Hoyas need to add 5 more scholarship players to the program next year, in addition to the two high school players (Harris and Sibley) who have already committed. I can envision them adding one, or possibly two, transfer players who will end up sitting out a year before being eligible. I would think they also want to add one or two grad transfers/juco players that can come in ready to contribute. Unless they can find a high level high school point guard they are confident will be ready to run the team as a freshman I think a grad transfer point guard is the best route. I could also see them adding a grad transfer power forward to help the developing bigs (Tim and Malcolm) that will need to play significant minutes. If they follow a plan similar to what is laid out above (two transfers that sit and two grad guys) then they are really only looking for one other high school player. Hopefully that player is a versatile athletic wing guy that is at least ready to contribute on the defensive end right away. That would give them 11 players (3 of them freshman) who are looking to find some playing time, which is more manageable than having 13 guys trying to find playing time
Should be an interesting few months as the roster for next year takes shape.

That would give them 11 players (3 of them freshman) who are looking to find some playing time, which is more manageable than having 13 guys trying to find playing time Should be an interesting few months as the roster for next year takes shape. I'd agree that this would be ideal. Trying to assimilate 7 new scholarship players (current 2 commits plus 5 more open scholarships) seems very challenging, so 1-2 guys who are sitting out and contributing in practice but not suiting up until the following year makes good sense. Adding a grad transfer point guard seems like it has to be priority #1, and a grad transfer 4/5 to ease the load on our young centers would be outstanding. Even a grad transfer 2/3 who was a reliable shooter would be great if we could swing it. But, I think you also have to be flexible. If all of the above pans out then yes, we really only need maybe one additional class of 2020 recruit. Unfortunately, the transfer market (including grad transfers) probably won't totally come into focus for another 2-3 months, and many of the top high school prospects may be wrapped up by then. There are a few grad transfers who are already on the market (the ivy league guys) and a handful of traditional transfers who have already announced (like the Mitchells). But most of those announcements won't come until teams' seasons start ending in March and April, and then they'll take visits and maybe make a decision in late April or May. So if we wait for 4 transfers (2 grad, 2 traditional) as you mentioned and we aren't able to land the caliber of guy we'd want, we may be left with some roster gaps. From that angle, I think if we see anyone in the class of 2020 who we think could be an asset to next year's team, we have to go for it. If that means we end up with one less spot for a sit-out transfer, so be it--better that than risking a thin roster again next year. From my perspective most of the high school guys we've been mentioned with recently (other than Alexander-Mocrieffe) seem fine, but not necessarily jaw dropping. Kids like Kobe Clark, Tyler Beard, Jermontae Hill, Lynn Greer--they all seem good and I'd have no issues with any of them being on next year's roster. But to your point, we probably only need one, maybe 2 more 2020 kids and none of those guys really strike me as being good enough to materially move the needle next season. I'm good with recruiting them, but don't think we need to rush into anything under the assumption that we have 5 open scholarships so we should just start throwing offers around capriciously. The coaching carousel and the decommits will start, other kids who are of comparable talent levels will emerge as the season goes on, and of course there's the grad and transfer markets that'll heat up later. No reason to rush to anything in January.

That is interesting and if the Hoyas have not even offered him scholarship yet, then I guess he will not be committing to Georgetown this week!!!

That is interesting and if the Hoyas have not even offered him scholarship yet, then I guess he will not be committing to Georgetown this week!!! - So Butler is a no go, out of scholarships and already recruited two PG for 2020! - Iowa has a good PG in Joe Toussaint that is starting to settle into his position, he'll be a sophomore next year and they have a PG coming in for 2020 as well. - DePaul's Charlie Moore has another year at the helm and currently they'll have two more PG's for next season. For 2019 they have freshmen Markese Jacobs and for 2020 they'll have Kobe Elvis. IMO DePaul needs to look at bigs not guards with the remaining two scholarships. - Virginia Tech's back court is pretty congested all three PG's are playing 15-28 minutes per game, IMO not a good fit. Bede will have another year and the other two PG's are currently freshmen. - South Florida and West Virginia are both out of scholarships according to Verbal Commit, but things could change with these two schools. - Hoya's have ONE TRUE PG for next year going forward! WE HAVE MINUTES AND SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!

We should put an offer out there. It can't hurt, we've been searching in that region and not had luck. Maybe this could be it. We are searching high and low for our next point guard and we have other needs. He is also a tall pg (actually not, 6-2)!

So have we offered??
I say that because if you go to his 247 page there is an article attached to his profile that was posted yesterday discussing Gtown targets and that article clearly states we have offered...

I think the author (Aidan Curran) is making an assumption. As yaboynyp mentioned before, there have been no reports of a Georgetown offer. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have an offer from Georgetown, it just means it hasn't been mentioned publicly. Maybe Curran has the inside scoop, you'd have to ask him, but knowing him if he had inside information he would have made a bigger deal about announcing that information.

EXCEPTTyler Beard (Whitney Young / Chicago, IL) is a late-blooming 2020 prospect from Chicago that has come on strong recently, including a strong showing at the Hoophall Classic at the National Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend.
The 3-star point guard holds offers from Georgetown, DePaul, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Iowa. The Hoyas' coaching staff has been in too see him multiple times recently. Yesterday at Hoophall, the 6'2" 175 lb. guard scored 24 points, along with six rebounds and eight assists. He is a tough guard who can make shots and defends well. Overall, Beard is having an outstanding senior season.247sports.com/college/georgetown/Article/Where-Georgetown-Stands-with-20202021-Recruits-142497937/But it's on the internet! It MUST be true!

Looks like he's no longer committing this week, but good to see we've been the most aggressive of late
