This decision carries a twofold message. First, Republicans, including Trump, these days are routinely trampling on democratic norms, which are habits of speech and conduct we expect of officials in support of the rule of law and democratic government. “Constitutional alarm bells” should go off when we hear elected officials seeking to undermine faith in elections, the cornerstone of democracy. Second, however, norms are conventions and customs, not laws. Hence, courts have limited ability other than public shaming to enforce these. Norms must be upheld by elected officials, and voters must insist they do so. When voters see elected officials refusing to uphold democratic norms and seeking to destroy the sanctity of elections, they should vote in new officials. www.washingtonpost.com/news/opinions/wp/2018/11/16/judge-slams-rick-scott-for-attacking-elections/?utm_term=.6e7c506b0619

This is amazing, but may not be quite true yet. The district for the Young Kim/Cisneros race covers parts of both LA and Orange County, and that race is still undecided - but moving toward Cisneros. Mimi Walters and Young Kim both making voter fraud claims. Very classy and Trumplike.

“I wasn’t on the ballot,” President Trump absurdly told Fox News in an interview that aired Sunday night. It got only more comically ham-handed from there. Questioned about the GOP’s crushing loss of the House, Trump repeated this formulation again and again — even after being confronted with the fact that he himself had repeatedly urged Americans to vote as if the elections were, in fact, a referendum on him. Chances are many Fox viewers will now robotically agree that the outcome had zero to do with Trump. But even if Trump’s name was not literally on the ballot, the story Trump has been telling about this country was undeniably central to this election. With the Democratic edge in the House popular vote now swelling to nearly eight points — 53 percent to 45.3 percent — it’s clear that the country decisively rejected this Trumpist story. www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2018/11/19/why-did-trumps-lies-fail-so-badly-important-new-data-provides-a-clue/?utm_term=.54c1ae026e48

We found a lot of examples of voter suppression, but did we find all that voter fraud in Florida Republicans were talking about?
Maybe the fraudsters are hiding in the migrant caravan?
Radical idea: Let's try and make it easier for people to vote since that's the foundation of a healthy Democracy...

Radical idea: Let's try and make it easier for people to vote since that's the foundation of a healthy Democracy... Can't do that. Everyone knows that making it easier for people to vote is an open invitation to voter fraud - like all of those illegal immigrants in California who voted hundreds of times, resulting in the losses by all of those fine Republican candidates. It's a shame, I tell you. And besides, do you want to go back to the days of Mayor Richard J. Daley? (Note to Elvado - made your argument for you).

Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report -- Dems had 8.8 million more votes in the 2018 midterms, the largest margin in midterm election history.

The fact the GOP is silent about this despite some pretty damning evidence speaks volumes....

The fact the GOP is silent about this despite some pretty damning evidence speaks volumes.... Have to remember that this is the party that re-elected two Congressmen who are under indictment -- Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins.

I have to believe that even Richard Nixon would be disgusted by this stuff.

A simple question -- was Menendez under federal indictment when he was elected in 2006, and re-elected in 2012, and 2018? Short answer -- no. Were Hunter and Collins under indictment when they were re-elected in 2018. Answer -- yes. Certain posters do not understand criminal law and the distinction between running for re-election while under indictment and running for re-election after a judge dismisses several counts and declares a mistrial on the remaining charges because the jury is deadlocked. The DOJ then chooses to not retry on the remaining charges. Thus, Menendez was not under indictment when he was re-elected whereas Hunter and Collins were, a fairly simply factual and legal distinction certain posters are apparently unable to grasp. IOW false equivalence strikes again!! thehill.com/homenews/senate/371626-doj-files-motion-to-dismiss-menendez-indictmentThe first trial of Menendez and Melgen ended in a mistrial in November, with 10 of the 12 jurors voting to acquit him, according to a member of the jury. www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/justice-departments-seeks-to-toss-out-charges-against-sen-menendez/2018/01/31/19a3094c-06a8-11e8-b48c-b07fea957bd5_story.html?utm_term=.0d63ab26792dAnd Menendez can thank McDonnell v. United States for the result. www.oyez.org/cases/2015/15-474I may have only graduated from a third rate Catholic law school as a former boss once referred to my alma mater but I did learn to support arguments with actual facts. [N.B. Could I be more condescending? Trust me, I'm trying, I'm trying!!! ]
