My question is, why does any civilian need an assault rifle?? If I'm a law-abiding citizen, why is it any of the government's business to decide what I need?

Why is a person on the terrorist watch list is not allowed to fly on a plane, but is allowed to buy firearms? Why should we allow a government, which has already demonstrated its intent to illegally or improperly treat certain taxpayers (conservatives) different from other taxpayers, also allow it to determine, without any due process whatsoever, who is entitled to exercise his constitutional right?

Do you feel comfortable with this administration - or a Clinton or Trump administration - unilaterally deciding who is a "terrorist" or who should be "watched"?

I am very interested in learning the reason behind why many US citizens hold sacred their constitutional right to purchase firearms including military-grade assault rifles. You can argue if it is in fact a constitutional right. I am not arguing that fact, for now. Is it for protection? For sport? Is it illegal to purchase a Gatling gun? How about a bazooka?
I believe that the first amendment is the most important cornerstone of the US democratic system of government. But there are limitations to free speech such as not calling out, "Fire!" in a crowded cinema, etc.
Unfortunately, "Fire!" means something very different to the most fervent of gun rights advocates.
I own a gun/assault rifle/uzi, etc. because I can. Is that the argument?

I do think this article sums up my feelings on the issue. www.nationalreview.com/article/436570/orlando-shooting-gun-policy-aftermath

So all manner of firearms should be made available to the general public? God forbid, quail-hunters are unable to protect themselves with the appropriate type of rifle. Those birds are packing quite an arsenal!
Seems as if that author is anti-quail but pro-ostrich.

You feel comfortable with someone on the terrorist watch ability to buy a firearm? Depends on who it is. Not everyone on the "terrorist watch list" (there actually aren't that many US citizens on there) is created the same. Right now, you're presenting an incomplete hypothetical. Provide a lot more details, and I'll tell you if I'm comfortable with a person on the "terrorist watch list" being able to purchase a firearm. Also, are you talking about the Terrorist Screening Database or the no-fly list, which was the list mentioned referenced in the King/Feinstein legislation? The problem you have is that you're being imprecise, which hampers the debate. It's the same problem people have when they decry the generic "assault weapon."

Were you comfortable with George Bush's Administration overseeing the Patriot Act?

Let's play the "air quotes game." Please define the terms "assault rifle" and "Islamic terrorist."
While we are at it, please define the term "the real America."

I'm sure the former Vice President and his family appreciated your restraint.

Let's play the "air quotes game." Please define the terms "assault rifle" and "Islamic terrorist." While we are at it, please define the term "the real America." You want to ban them, so the burden is on you to define the term "assault rifle" (or "military-grade assault rifle" as you put it above).
