This is pretty damn awesome, but I still have fears of him signing with us and then going straight to the NBA. If an age limit is put in place this would be ridiculous. "The Big Ticket was much more active this weekend in Charlottesville, displaying a face up game that didn't focus so much on jump shots (like last summer's debacle), but more on putting the ball on the floor and driving from the wing. He was extremely effective and produced points for Boo Williams pretty consistently throughout the weekend. He had 19 points in the championship game loss, and 21 points in their quarterfinal playoff win. Georgetown and Wake Forest are the only two schools on his list according to coach Williams." georgetown.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=415677georgetown.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=15182

Awesome. Macklin is definitly a presence, a likely McDonalds All American and would be huge for us. I thought for sure that UNC was his first choice college, so the fact that we're still on the list and they aren't is pretty awesome. You have to like our chances against Wake much more than against both UNC AND Wake. A Macklin and Jeff Green combo in the frountcourt would be ridiculous, if even for just one year.
But I do have reservations about the NBA. I'm afraid of his signing with us and then entering the draft and leaving us in the dust. We've never had that here, and I'd hate for it to start. Macklin's a risk.... he's got all the potential in the world and HUGE upside, but theres a chance we can adjust our roster somehow and get this guy signed only to be left high and dry..... For that reason, I'm as high on Lance Thomas as I am Macklin.

Yeah, I want DaJaun Summers and Lance Thomas first unless an NBA age limit is in fact put in place.
I've heard nothing but great stuff about those 2 guys and they appear to be headed to college no matter what while Macklin has made it clear that he wants to go pro.
So I say Summers and Thomas, then Macklin on my priority list, but I hope the staff pushes as hard as possible for all of them.

Great News '07!! I'd have to say my DREAM CLASS would be:
1. Vernon Macklin 2. Dajuan Summers 3. Jeremiah Rivers
We're one third of the way there and in damn good position for the other two players at this time. I know things can change quickly in recruiting but I think it's quite obvious that GU is on way back to top and if we're able to sign kids like those listed above, everything gets accelerated.
We're seeing Hoyas involved with so many kids it's unreal. I've followed recruiting since I was in Junior High School and 1988 was last time I've seen so many kids list GU or say they've been contacted and are interested. That goes for Class of '06 and beyond.
Kudos to Staff and it's just great to have excitement back with GU Program!!

I agree, my Top 4 targets for '06 are:
DaJaun Summers Lance Thomas Vernon Macklin Jeremiah Rivers
We've got 1, if we can get 2 more I will be in heaven, what a class that would be!

Any reason why you guys seem to prefer Summers to Thomas? From what I know I'd say we likely have a better chance at Summers, with him being from Maryland and all, but it seems like the recruiting sites rank Thomas considerably higher as a prospect. Any reason why we might make Summers the higher priority?

First off, we have a much better chance with Summers as I've heard that we are his leader now. Also, even though Thomas is ranked higher, Ive heard from several people how good Summers is and that he's likely to blow up this summer. It's awesome that we've been on him for a while already.
But I would love Thomas as well, our chances just aren't as good with him I dont think.

Any reason why we might make Summers the higher priority? RB, I think we'd be happy with anyone listed above in thread, and Lance Thomas is an awesome prospect and kid from everything I've heard, but Summers is more of a Hoya lean and that's my reasoning. Lance Thomas has about 30 teams listed, Summers has us leading or at worst in his top 2, and more importantly he brings GU back into play in BALTIMORE where they've been absent for a long time. He's friendly with Malcolm Delaney, Donte Green and at this time both are among top 50 recruits for '07 and Green's on record saying we're in his top 3 with Maryland and UNC. He's a 6'8 bouncy PF type. Delaney is a big combo guard and while guard doesn't seem like a need, never know what can happen. GU wants to get best in MD, VA, and DC if possible and Summers is a guy with huge upside--inside/out Forward. Would be a great compliment to the current players on team and IF and I stress IF because recruiting is a "minute by minute" business where things can change, if we landed Macklin, he'd fit in with as perfect compliment. Now believe me, if Lance Thomas ever chose GU, NOBODY would be sad and I'd be walking on air but then again, if we land 2 of those 3 kids or some of the others we're involved with, I'll react the same. Things are just getting started again and the excitement is not only fun, it's realistic. Been a very long time since that was able to be said/typed.

Don't forget the class of '06 has a certain 6'8" SF/PF already committed, though we only get him for 2 years.
Rivers Ewing Macklin Summers
That's a class to serve notice.

How many spots do we have for that class? I thought it was just two.

How many spots do we have for that class? I thought it was just two. At the moment, we have Ashanti and Brandon's scholarships, as well as DJ's from this year. That's three, to be filled by: Rivers Ewing Wallace New Recruits Transfers (out) can obviously add to the number.

How many spots do we have for that class? I thought it was just two. Depends. We'll have 2 seniors leaving (Brandon and Ashanti). That's 2 spots. If Jon remains a walk-on, then that will be three. Ewing and Rivers already have 2 of those spots, those vacated by Brandon and Ashanti, presumably. If we sign anyone else, that would mean that either a) Jon stays walk on or b)another scholarship player transfers. If we sign 2 more players, that would mean that both of those would have to happen.

This is all pretty amazing. I feel like we're getting to the point where we are recruiting as well as just about anybody right now. Its been such a drag around here the last few years, I hope this is the beginning of something special.
