It was much hotter that day in Boston than this relatively warm day today. And 46 years ago Eamon O'Reilly, also of Georgetown, came in 2nd in the Boston Marathon in what was then an American record, 2:11:12 (almost exactly five minutes per mile. That record still stands as the Hoya alumni record. Jack's time was 2:19. Eamon finished 2nd to Ron Hill of England, who was the #1 ranked marathoner in the world at the time. Eamon said to me that if the race were about a mile longer, he could have beaten Ron.
