Well this certainly addresses the guard situation. Next question will be whether Akoy can play defense and board and how much growth occurs for Govan, Marcus and Mourning. Almost seems as though next year becomes a redshirt season for Tre and Kaleb. Perhaps JT III is serious about changing the manner in which this team plays and he is going to actually use that deep rotation he now appears to have. He played plenty of guys last year, and I certainly don't see that changing next year. Yes you are correct, he did play a deeper bench last year. However, it fluctuated from game to game as some players played only when absolutely necessary (Mourning), some played a lot in some games and then disappeared to the bench for several others (Kaleb, Reggie and Tre) and some played long stretches without substitution (DSR and Ike). What I should have said is that with what appears to be a substantial amount of depth, it would be nice to see the Hoyas employ a very aggressive defense and utilize the depth to keep fresh players in the game at all times. I worry about what is going to have to occur for the Hoyas to improve their interior play, which was very uneven last season, particularly with respect to rebounding. Experience should help Govan and Derrickson, but neither is exactly quick and Derrickson is undersized. Mourning is quick but needs more strength and Akoy is a great mystery who has barely seen the court in three years.

Depth will allow this team to press early and often.
Starters hard to predict but will be the result of performance in practice and, ultimately, games.
Very productive spring - props to the oft-maligned staff.

Ideally I would want the lineup to be: Tre/Jon, LJ, Ike, Paul, and Jessie.....with Marcus, Rodney, Tre/Jon, Akoy, Kaleb, Jagan, Trey, Reg to start the season. I agree with hoyalove4ever. Ideally a team with everyone deserving minutes would be great for the Hoyas. Mn our outlook for next year looks a lot brighter in what less than two weeks........THANK YOU Jon and Rodney!!!!! Yall have made my summer. Now if Mr. Lykes commits..........

Good analysis, although I hope that Reggie shoots well enough to get more than spot minutes, and that both Tre and Trey step up and play more of a role than contemplated above. I really think we will need Trey when (not if) Jessie gets in foul trouble. Trey may need to be the backup 5 -- we just don't know what we have in Agau, and we don't know if Marcus can really play there. So he may get more minutes. But if he does, that necessarily means Agau and Marcus (or Jesse) play less. I don't see how Reggie gets much more than I gave him. He really can only play the four, right? So, he's in the same position in terms of competitors at that spot as he was last year, except we also add Paul and Agau to the mix (and Marcus is a year older). Same with Tre. I hope you're right -- and he's improved a ton and is ready to contribute. But just looking at the numbers at the guard position, unless we play meaningful minutes with four guards, there's just not a lot of time for him.

I think Tre can have a role on this team. For certain match ups his size will be an advantage because he can get under players. He MUST put a lot of work in though as his defensive deficiencies have been much discussed. It also will help if he begins to penetrate on offensive end. I'm not saying this will happen but I don't like to impose ceilings on these players. We have seen dramatic turnarounds before, so I'm not willing to write him off.
I believe that we will see how much we missed Akoy this season. It is my understanding that staff loved him during the practices before his injury. Hopefully he recovers well enough to make a big impact this season.
In the meantime next year's team ought to be fun to watch.

Jon LJ Ike Marcus Jessie
Don't sell Doc short, if he makes a jump for his sophomore year he could be a big star.

I WANT HOCKEY-STYLE SUBSTITUTIONS!!! I, for one, would love to hear Rich Chvotkin describing the Hoyas changing on the fly.

PG: Mulmore SG: Pryor SF: White PF: Copeland C: Govan LJ sticking to his first off the bench role where he excelled this past year. then Derrickson, Agau, Johnson, Mourning. Spot minutes for Mosely, Campbell, Cameron Our best player coming off the bench for two years in a row? Being down by 10 at the 12-min mark of the first half? No thank you.

It would be silly to dole out the same lineups game after game without tweaking the minute balance.

Maybe we define tweak differently. In fact most teams do roll out the same lineups game after game and go with what they believe to be their best players. That has always been JT IIIs style too.

Mulmore LJ Pryor Ike Govan
White is the 6th man, Derrickson will still play good minutes at the 4 or 5 depending on match-up.
I don't think Pryor comes to Gtown if he does not believe he is starting next season. With his experience and rebounding ability, I do not see anyone on last year's roster beating him out for a starting position. I am also assuming Ike improves and our style of play matches his skillset a bit more next season.
Govan is the shakiest of my starting 5. He is the traditional 5, but he needs to improve. I could easily see Agau taking his minutes along with Derrickson. A fast team does not necessarily need a 6'11" center if he is still struggling to finish around the rim and hold his own on defense.
This team should be playing fast, especially on defense, press aggressively with the intention of forcing turnovers, switch everything in the man to man, play a long 2 -3 zone.

Both Ben Standig (http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/ncaa/hoyas-land-key-graduate-transfer-2016-17-season) and Casual (http://www.casualhoya.com/2016/4/18/11450158/georgetown-hoyas-basketball-preview-rodney-pryor-jonathan-mulmore#370402159) reporting that we've applied for a redshirt waiver petition for Hayes, asking that his freshman year not be counted toward his eligibility. That would really mix this conversation up.

Maybe we define tweak differently. In fact most teams do roll out the same lineups game after game and go with what they believe to be their best players. That has always been JT IIIs style too. Yeah but the point of playing a larger rotation is to maximize/figure out what your players have to offer, so as a coach you're trying to figure out what does and doesn't work. All of our players are human and aren't going to be consistent night in and night out. Part of managing such a large rotation is figuring out when to employ which lineups. We aren't Kentucky or UNC or even Kansas...were not gonna roll out our lineups and force teams to adjust to us for 40 mins. That's unrealistic. Very few teams/coaches have the luxury of not having to adjust, but when you're focused on tweaking and making adjustments (for such a large number of players), the fact that III might go 10 deep against Seton Hall and then 8.5 deep against Butler and then 11 deep against Xavier certainly doesn't entail a short rotation. Every night isn't going to be 12 guys, we're not gonna need everyone every night. Some nights we might only need 7. My point being, rolling out he same exact lineups and minute distribution game after game makes you predictable (which is a bad thing) if you're not Kansas or UNC.... Also, we probably have different ideas of the talent on this team. There are many talented players who deserve to play and someone talented will certainly end up getting the short end of the stick sometimes. There are only 40 mins in the game

I don't see how it gets granted either. I know the young man's father died during that first year, but it was early in the year -- he played after that. The NCAA rules could easily say "you can redshirt if you play less than one minute per game" or something like that. But, well, they don't! All that said, we've had very good luck overall with requests of this kind. I'm not sure how the scholarship issue plays out either, if he does get the waiver. This may have been a hedge if we didn't get one or both of the transfers we were seeking (even though they're different positions). That's my best guess.

Biggest question mark is still PG position. Tbh we don't need a lot of scoring there, need leadership, some penetration, defense and ball control (Don't turn the ball over). Asking a new guy to make the huge jump from weaker JC to starter at HM learning a new offense might be a daunting task. Not going to be a popular take but still think Tre has the inside track to start initially because of familiarity, but we will see. Has to have a Huge summer obviously but that goes for both guys.

Would you rather our best player have to sit down for the final 15 minutes of the first half because he got 2 quick fouls? I assume we can all agree LJ played much better coming off the bench. What makes you think we'd be down 10 when the line up I proposed only has one carry over from our starting line up of most of last year?

Good points. Hopefully with Mulmore, Pryor, and the return of White, the team will have a lot more ball-handling overall and can do some "PG by committee," which I think is fine IF the teams buys in to the offense.

Tre to his credit less than a turnover per game in 20 min of pt, however if his defense in 16/17 looks the same as his 1st 2 seasons he'll probably be sitting more than a lot. If he gets in the weight room starts sitting down in his stance and focus on staying in front of his man he has a shot... Mulmore certainly looks like he has the body athleticism to be a good perimeter defender but the TO's are a concern so question marks for both guys...
