Any recent news suggesting JT3 targeting this guy? I threw out the question in March but after initial support, the thread promptly became a discussion regarding Causey. I know we're already recruiting a coup of bigs already for 2006. Apparently the guy's a self-proclaimed math-wiz (Rueben part II... but with more game?) but wants to go to school w/ his boy Mike Conley, Jr. (who I imagine is pretty solid since he's being recruited by some top schools). We should have JT3 send out Pat, Deek, and 'Zo to try and get this guy here. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=2056229&thread=0

Oden's been down to Ohio St (fave right now), Wake Forest, Mich St and Indiana for a while now. Ohio St is leading after the commits of Cook and Lighty, but the other 3 schools all have realistic shots as well.
He's visited Ohio St and Wake with Conley in the last 3 weeks. BTW, those 2 are Conley's top 2 as well.
So basically we don't have a shot. We are in Macklin's top 3 though (together with UNC and Wake), and he should be visiting in the coming weeks. If we could land the Big Ticket...wow!

My guess is Oden is the Number one pick in next year's draft. He'll probably verbal to somewhere, like most of these guys do nowadays, and then once he's sure hes a top 3 draft pick he'll make the jump.
Macklin is where we should concentrate. He may go pro as well, though I think he could use a year or two of college ball. Word on Macklin is that his choices are NBA, UNC, and then everyone else, with us being toward the forefront of the everyone else contingent.

All of this really only is relevant if the age limit is passed. That's the main reason, the big schools haven't all been on Oden and Macklin like mad. The pending announcement of an age limit changes all that, so there's a high possibility that Oden, Macklin and all the other '06 studs will play in college for 2 years until they turn 20. Should the age limit not be passed, Oden may not even end up committing to a school, or like you said just do it pro forma.

It also sounds like we would be too late to the dance on Oden. It would be a good idea to develop the relationship with Lawrence North, Pike, North Central and a few other Indy high schools as they have been rich in talent the past number of years and G'town has never really had any big success in Indiana (correct me if I am wrong).
Montross, Oden, Chris Thomas, Lawry, Alan Henderson, and many others have come from this area of the past few years and the article also mentions the other seven footer who tragically died. The metro area has been loaded recently (+..McRoberts).

It definitely goes in the "believe it when i see it" file, but Oden has told EVERYONE that he wants to go to college. He seems earnest about it, but he's the likely top pick in the draft, and that's going to be very tough to pass up on.
I'm sure it's way too late to get involved with Oden. Our chances would have been slim to none even if we had put on the full court press early, so it's probably for the best that we don't waste our energies on hail mary recruits.
