according to Hoop Scoop. Doc's son is down to GU and ND, with Hoyas in the lead. Rivers is ranked #25 by them, #44 by Bob Gibbons, #32 by Rivals and #46 by Scouthoops in the '06 class. He is a 6'4 170 PG. He's been described as a cerebral point, much like his dad. Here's Gibbons' analysis: "This smart combo guard knows when to score or hit open teammates with rock. He has range to arc and knack to create intermediate game off the dribble. Doc Rivers son has all the tools to help early at the high major level".

Awesome. He'd probably be the highest ranked prospect we've landed in a few years, am I right? It certainly seems that III is focusing on a lot of guards, but hey, who am I to even think about questioning coach's strategy? If you can get a top prospect, take him no matter what position he plays, and Rivers is definitly a top prospect. GU being in the lead is very promising and I'm really, really excited to hear about it. Who said the offseason had to be boring? scout.scout.com/a.z?s=198&p=8&c=1&nid=1227775rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=28849&Sport=2

He;s big, talented and smart.

That would be a big time pickup for us considering we may not find a true point right away. Although i think sapp can handle is for us we are going to have a ton of depth at all the guard and sf positions..we just need to get some guys 6'8 and over.

I agree that we still could use some more help up front, but I'm excited about this news. JT III has done a nice job getting our name out there, even though we haven't hit a big-name recruit just yet. But the first step is getting your name as part of the discussion. Rivers may soon be the first get.

I think this would be a great pickup.
Even though we have not landed a big man Roy and Green are more than capable and Roy has a lot of potential. It has to be hard to attract big talent (haha) without being able to promise them any significant time in the next few years. I also think that we have both Green and Roy for at least another 3 years, most likely 4 in Roy's case, before they go Pro (if they go Pro). So in other words im not that worried.

The most we could possibly get out of them is another 3 years, and I'm just hoping that we can get another 2 out of Jeff. If he stays for his senior year it would be enormous, and also pretty unlikely if he keeps improving his game because he was really good this year.
Roy is definitely staying his senior year, no doubt about that.
And you have to remember that landing at least one very good big man in the 2006 recruiting class is crucial. Guys in that class will be freshmen when Jeff and Roy are juniors and you always want to be prepared in case Jeff goes pro so that we aren't left in a Sweetney-leaving type situation.

one thing about the guards we are goin after is that they are "Big Guards" that at least could be good rebounding guards and provide good defense and tough matchups on the offensive end

We're not going to land Rivers and Johnson, unless (A) Wallace does NOT get a schollie or (B) someone leaves. Remember, Ewing is now taking up a schollie in two years and that leaves us with one to give.

Guys in that class will be freshmen when Jeff and Roy are juniors and you always want to be prepared in case Jeff goes pro so that we aren't left in a Sweetney-leaving type situation. The fact that JTIII is recruiting so many guards leads me to think that Jon may maintain walk on status. If that's so, and we add Ewing, we ought to have 2 scholarships availible for the 2006 class. Rivers and a big man could be ideal. I still have my fingers crossed on Macklin, but I may be kidding myself. The guys got (or will get) offers from the country's top programs, so he really can't be counted on. I don't know any other big men that Coach is really in the hunt for in '06, other than Duke Crews who is an undersized 4. While I'd like a Big in '06, I think we may be able to do ok without one, even if Jeff leaves after junior year. We've likely got Ewing to play for us in '06-'07 and '07-'08, because he'll sit out this upcoming year. We've also got Roy for that same time period. Those two would likely be able to hold down the starting 4 and 5. It's amazing to me how forgotten Cornelio is. I guess I can't blame everyone for forgetting him after he had a pretty forgetable freshman campaign. Still, in my opinion he's big and athletic enough to be a solid backup PF/C. It's likely his adjustment period is longer because of the competition he's used to playing against. I think he'll develop into a contributor with time. He really didn't get any PT this year for us to judge his game. I think Roy mostly played because Coach is thinking long term and wanted him to become acclimated to Big East ball, and it worked. Cornelio didn't get that same opportunity, because we were winning a lot of games and we needed to put the best possible lineup on the floor (which usually included DJ). With Jeff playing so well and with Roy getting a decent amount of minutes, there just wasn't time to let Cornelio get into the mix. Anyway, I digress... landing Rivers would be great... anyone know if Hoop Scoop is reliable?

I don't know about very reliable, but whatever. We're also recruiting Lance Thomas, who would be a dream to land for me. He's 6'8" and not a solution for the C position, but he's a great player and an amazing person. He's the kind of guy we want in our program. But he's the kind of guy everyone wants, so the competition for him will be tough. georgetown.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=26544PM me if you want to read a great article about him. Our 3 highest priority big guys (6' 8" +) are DaJuan Summers, Vernon Macklin and Lance Thomas, landing any of them would be huge. I've heard nothing but great stuff about Summers even though the recruiting gurus haven't put him near the top of their lists yet.

Thomas sounds like an AWESOME prospect, and more importantly, an awesome person. Would love to see him in blue and gray. All 4 of the prospects mentioned (Rivers, Thomas, Macklin and Summers) would be excellent additions. Hopefully we can find a way to nab 2 of them, but even 1 will be big. I'm not so concerned with finding a solution at center as I am with finding quality forwards. Roy will be here a few more years, but Bowman and Jeff will be gone before that.

My instinct says that he would, because he's getting a free education here.... However, the recruiting thread seems to indicate an inclination to lean the other direct. I think we have to wait for the official announcement before we know for sure, even though I would have thought someone would know about this from a similar situation in the past at a different school.

I've looked at a few sources and every time i see his list of schools G-Town isn't there. Is he even interested? Is my info outdated?
Hope he is interested though b/c landing Rivers and Thomas would be a definate visable step up in our recruiting ability.

If Cornelio returns and has put some pounds on, we should fine on the inside with Roy,Jeff, himself and Spann. I'd save the schollie for '06. Ewing free trip from dad.
