I just saw the schedule today for spring football. The spring game is on Friday, April 22nd at 6 pm. The Hoyas will be practicing in pads on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is for team workouts. There should be some good competition for some key positions. Excited to see what the Hoyas can put together for next year. I think a good season would be 6 wins. A tough Ivy schedule, Colgate with many returners, Edmonds running the ball at Fordham, and I think Holy Cross' QB behind center will make this a challenge.GU has some holes to fill on offense. I think Coach Sgarlata has Georgetown pointed in the right direction. Go Hoyas!

6 wins and we should call it Cooper-Sgarlata Field.

You taking a shot at coach? How in the world did you interpret my post as that? Just my intuition. Not certain of your intention but likely warranted as six wins surely equals $50m for naming rights especially if they don't actually do any real construction to the field. BTW have they done anything to start these renovations?

I think our Problematic friend's flaming hot take was that 6 wins under Georgetown's current structural constraints is worthy of permanent enshrinement. Given the heavy use the MSF gets during the school year (and during the summer too) and the disruption that construction will cause, I wouldn't expect physical work to start until every T is crossed and every I dotted. This summer seems like an obvious target timeframe for at least the first phase of work, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

What could be happening once lacrosse ends? I'm beginning not to trust what they tell us. They are just announcing things to buy time and then delaying. Nice tactic but noted.

We haven't seen designs, if they differ from the 2004 submission the internal and ANC/CFA/OGB approval processes would be required, and most importantly, we just don't know if the gift was up-front (doubt it) or a multi-year commitment.

I thought they initial up front cash amount ($15m?) was specifically the part apportioned for "additional seating" etc. and the deferred portion was for the leadership program.
I gotta be honest I have no idea what the leadership program is. Anyone know what form it will take? Classes? Motivational speaking?

The press release would seem to indicate that there was no cash up front, but rather annual payouts: However, this doesn't really matter. The University can easily borrow the money at very low rates, using the assets themselves to back the loan. So that should not be an impediment to moving forward. Design review is a real roadblock, but with most of the site relating things already having been worked out previously, I don't think it would take too long. Besides, none of the guardians of taste care about designing stadiums, so they're less likely to play SimArchitect with it than they do with a building. ANC shouldn't be an issue in this case, as they already approved the MSF several times and we don't intend to change the usage any.

In theory, yes, but look at all the other projects that skipped over the MSF in priority that also had financing needs. My concern is that with the NE Triangle financing, the community drumbeat to add even more housing (Harbin II) and the letdown after the campaign, the momentum to get this going will wane. The football community isn't going to drive this, and it's not like men's lacrosse is the national power it once was. There would have been a time not so long ago when a 1-5 record in lacrosse would have sent off alarms across the University. Now, it's a shrug. Georgetown's two fully funded, full-scholarship spring teams are a combined 3-10.

There would have been a time not so long ago when a 1-5 record in lacrosse would have sent off alarms across the University. Now, it's a shrug. Georgetown's two fully funded, full-scholarship spring teams are a combined 3-10. AFAIK the only projects that required borrowing to realize have been the residential ones (and, I think, the TAC in part, but that was more about wanting to fast-track it). The residential projects did not have a dedicated funding source to borrow against. When you have that, you more or less can borrow at will, since it is about as safe of an investment as there exists. Georgetown isn't going under anytime soon. It will be interesting to see if the community pushes to add even more dedicated residential space on campus (Harbin II is envisioned as flex space that lets you take dorms offline for renovation and provides student life space the rest of the time). On the campaign side, though... universities are now in permanent campaign mode. The boundaries between the tail end of one campaign, the bridge period, and the 'quiet phase' of the next campaign have basically faded away. It's permanent mobilization, as opposed to periodic levee en masse. Sports - and certainly non-MBB sports no longer draws the sort of 'alarm bells' it once might have. Still, what a university prioritizes above all else is its image and the ability to save face in any situation. The economic collapse wasn't just an excuse for the MSF's delay - it was a legitimate reason also, as it was for now-Regents Hall. Now that the University has committed publicly to completing the project within set timelines, it will continue to enjoy priority status. So it will get done for sure, now that administrative credibility is at stake. Does track not have max scholarships?
