I wonder how his sister feels. I'm sure I'll see her tomorrow at work. I don't think I'll be bold enough to go up to her and to ask anything about this matter LOL! She just has that persona about her. She may open up the door for me. I don't know. Whenever I see her we just speak but sometimes I'll say a lil something here and there. She's really cool and doesn't go around bragging about here brother. If I didn't see her at the games and put 1 and 2 together I would never knew her brother played for the Hoyas. I like talking to Marcus' dad. Cool dude.
Wondering how practice went today for MD and his teammates. I have this feeling it went well. I think the Hoyas will go up to NYC and get this W!

This thread is getting a little weird. It feels strangely uncomfortable to start reading about a student’s family members. Admin....can we shut down this thread?

I think the bigger question or the real blame should go to FS1 for decided to air that part of the timeout. They were the ones who put all this on front street. You think Ewing should be concerned about the camera in the middle of a road conference game? Trust me anyone that's ever been coached at a high level in basketball has heard much worse from their coach. Derrickson responded well by continuing to play his best game of the season to date.
To me the argument here is off base. It really should be whether or not FS1 should have televised that portion of the timeout. They aren't live timeouts. Their pre-recorded during the timeouts/commercials and aired after the timeouts are over. They don't show you the X's & O's parts of the timeouts on purpose. Blaming Coach Ewing for any part of this is a little off based. If anything FS1 should have used some discretion and maybe not aired that segment.

At some point, we'll start confronting the negative effects of today's see-all and tweet-all media landscape. For now, we're immersed in it, and a significantly large percentage of people apparently see no problem. I'll stop now before this becomes Blue and Gray board worthy.

Fox isn’t supposed to show a compelling moment that occurred during their broadcast? It’s not like they broadcast th pentagon papers, this was a public situation. How Ewing coaches is his business, and we have absolutely no idea how Derrickson feels about it. I have certainly been yelled at by coaches before in public (although not on tv) and after cooling down I wasn’t embarrassed at all—particularly if I realized the message was a sage one. I mean after the DePaul game everyone was talking about how great it was that Ewing was lighting a fire under one of his stars’ rear ends. There are a zillion possibilities for why Derrickson (and for that matter everyone) has a rough outing against creighton. If it starts coming out that Ewing has “lost the locker room” then we can revisit this. Otherwise this seems like a lot of nothing to me.

This is why I mentioned on Twitter, I blame the media for putting Derrickson out there like this. Yes, he responded with 24 points, but he's the one people are ridiculing too. Also, Derrickson had 14 points before the half is another reason I couldn't understand. Kid was feeling and made a move he said he's been working on and his coach goes off on him. I think there's more to this maybe behind closed doors (practice or something). I don't know about that one. Coach is growing with his players, and he's going to make some mistakes. Coach Ewing has even said he was growing with his team. Was this a mistake? May have been or not. They've moved on, but again yeah bro the media starting with (Casualhoya) and the rest that pushed this. Yes, coaches on every level do this, but it's not caught on camera with the media bashing pushing the tab so to speak. I don't like how they do our kids if you know what I mean. If it weren't caught on camera nobody wouldn't know but the fans who were there. Me, personally as a coach I'm going one on one with a player if I have issues with anything my players. I hear you my dude.

If it starts coming out that Ewing has “lost the locker room” then we can revisit this. Otherwise this seems like a lot of nothing to me. That's the point here. The media and how they pushed it out there to the world. And who are they ridiculing right now? Marcus. Have you read the Creighton board? It's posted in the game articles. That's just one group. You right we have no idea how Derrickson feels about it, but I know how I'd feel especially with the media all over the sports world putting me out there. You know Patrick Ewing is a legend so this whole scenario got out there fast because of who he is. Getting chewed out on national tv by a legend with the media pushing I wouldn't think would be a good feeling? I'm to trying to be considerate here SDHoya. I do care about MD feelings, some don't. It's evident. You wrote: I mean after the DePaul game everyone was talking about how great it was that Ewing was lighting a fire under one of his stars’ rear ends. Me: Right, because they weren't thinking about Marcus. They were impressed with the legendary Patrick Ewing, now Head Coach Ewing chewing out a young man after he had one of the best first halfs of his career 14 pts. ended up with 24 pts. I'm still mind boggled somewhat about this. Sometimes we quickly jump to conclusions without thinking about the consequences or how the other person may feel.

Listen, I will say this. Allen Iverson once said that his name, to John Thompson II, was "m'f---er." However, he goes on to say, "But you know what, man. It was all said in love, though man." He concluded: John Thompson taught me a lot. He didn't just teach me how to play basketball. He taught me how to become a man!
Hopefully, MD knows the difference between some whiny soft people on this board and elsewhere and true discipline that is all about love.

Don’t know if you saw it, but FS1 is promoting the Providence-DePaul game as “open access” on Friday night. Both coaches will be miked up through the entire game. I intend to tune in just to see what this means. But this speaks to the media culture you all are talking about.

I believe Marcus is absolutely strong enough in terms of his character to rise above that televised incident. I'm sure he a has heard worse. Let this die a natural death. He and Govan are the foundation of this team... they must be tough. I believe Marcus is!

I do too with the support of his teammates and family, but it's more about the media putting it out there around the world. I'm sure he heard worse as well, but not on national tv! Yes, they are the foundation of this team, but must play better than they did on Saturday.

How deleted inconsiderate can a person be. The only ones who are whiny soft are the ones who don't give a damn about MD! MD had 14 pts. before the half and made a so called mistake. He ended up with 24 pts. and played a big part of winning his team's and coach's first Big East game! True discipline? MD doesn't need that. He's never been a problem player. MD has a great family, a great Mom and Dad who raised and are raising him in becoming a man. Respect is love too. Hope MD knows the difference between idiots and ones who care about him and how he feels. How many points did MD have on Saturday? Let it go!

There is such a thing as tough love...have you not been chastised by an adult, dad, uncle issuing punishment, meant for your own good. Come on let it go...we need lots of killer instinct and toughness on this team.
Marcus should work on that shot in practice, in front of coach, so that its clear. Its in his bag of tricks. Derek is famous for this! i wish I could insert an emojee here!

I just talked (about 10 minutes ago) to a couple of guys that work with me on my job that work at Capital One Arena (I don't want to say where they work in there), but I mentioned to them 90-66? What the hell happened on Saturday? One of the guys said, "Man, they act like they weren't and didn't want to listen to the coach!" Now, I know some of these folks won't believe this or have something crazy to say, but the facts are the facts. With that video of Coach Ewing and MD going viral really did something and he also said as I did something else is or maybe going on behind closed doors. He feels as the players have tuned our coach out. Well, I can say at least during the Creighton game. Darn, I hope I don't sound like Lavar Ball saying the Lakers have tuned their coach out lol. People on here were saying words like soft, discipline, whiney etc. not realizing the psychology of the game of basketball especially on a youth, high school, or college level. I mentioned to the one guy as a coach if I have a serious issue with my players I'm talking to them one on one behind closed doors. He totally agreed. They saw it all and are right there. Everyone has the opinion's but do go for it, and remember, I'm just the messenger. Still sipping my tea.

Simply not buying any of the histrionic balderdash being put forth on here - but will say that if these players have already tuned out this coach (again, I don't think they have) then it would say far more about them, as it would be the second straight season in which this core would have done so.
