Sept. 1, 2015
Former Georgetown University men’s basketball star Patrick Ewing Jr. has joined the staff as the Director of Basketball Operations, Head Coach John Thompson III announced.
Ewing Jr. is the son of former Hoya All-American and National Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing.
“Even as a player, Patrick ‘saw’ the game through the eyes of a coach," Thompson said. “I’m very glad to have Patrick come back home and to be part of the staff.”
Following his graduation from Georgetown in 2008, Ewing Jr. was a second round pick of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Draft and he spent time with the Houston Rockets, the New York Knicks and New Orleans Hornets. He also spent time playing overseas, with stops in Germany, Spain, Greece and Qatar.
Ewing, Jr. was the recipient of the BIG EAST Conference’s inaugural Sixth Man of the Year Award as a senior in 2008. He appeared in all 34 games during the 2007-08 season, averaging 6.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Ewing, Jr. started the first 10 games of the season, but moved into the Sixth Man role in January. In 24 games coming off the bench, Ewing, Jr. averaged 5.7 points and 4.4 rebounds while handing out 25 assists and blocking 12 shots.
A major contributor to Georgetown's success in 2006-07 when the team won the BIG EAST Tournament and advanced to the Final Four, Ewing, Jr. provided a spark whenever the Hoyas needed it. During BIG EAST play, he had 11 games with at least five points, 14 games with at least three rebounds, six games with at least two assists, three games with at least two blocked shots and four games with at least two steals.

I'm sad to hear that Othella is leaving but am equally excited to know that Pat is home. Best of luck to Pat in his new role and to Othella as well in whatever he chooses to do next.

It should be good for the kids to get advise/instruction from someone who's played in JT3's system.. Ewing should be a great resource to the forwards especially.. Not to mention he was a fiery player who may be able to get more intensity out of the kids..

Exactly how I feel. GREAT to have PE Jr back in the fold, but sad Othella won't be on the bench any longer. Wishing him all the very best! And WELCOME BACK PE Jr!

Thanks for all you have done for the team, Othella. I remember vividly, when you were recruited out of HS as a 20/20 man. And a big welcome to PE Jr, who serves now as my avatar.
