And cue the exceedingly minor slap on the wrist. Meanwhile, Larry Brown isn't upset at what happened (allegedly) at the school. He's upset that the news of an investigation is hurting his recruiting. Little tip for you: if you're not doing things that are clear violations, you don't have to worry about news of investigations leaking. Way to follow it up with indignation about the fallout and not the actions that precipitated those circumstances in the first place. Fine example you're setting there Mr. Brown.

espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/13769364/ncaa-bans-smu-mustangs-2016-postseason-suspends-larry-brown-10-percent-team-gamesBrown suspended 9 games, SMU out of post season play this year. ExcerptThe NCAA has banned SMU from 2016 postseason play and has suspended Larry Brown for 30 percent of the team's games this season because of a lack of head coach control, a source close to the situation said.
The 30 percent ban for Brown means he will miss nine games total. The school also will be hit with nine scholarship losses over the next three years, a source said, although it was two below the limit this past season so can count those toward the nine. SMU also has been placed on three years' probation.

I mean they have to hit UNC now right? I mean SMU's sanctions are pretty much a result of the same thing at UNC only on a much smaller scale.

I'm not sure that what happened at SMU is analogous at all to what is alleged to have happened at UNC. According to the espn.com article, SMU was cited for actions involving an online class, for which an advisor purportedly completed the course work. The allegations at UNC involve brick-and-mortar classes. Certainly the scale of the SMU violations are dwarfed by those at Chapel Hill. I don't think that the penalties for Syracuse and SMU will be instructive at all as to what UNC will be facing.
As for Larry Brown, that's the hat trick. . .sanctions imposed for his tenure at Kansas, at UCLA, and now SMU. Impressive run.
Then again, I'm one of the few New Jersey Nets fans who remembers how he bailed on that playoff team late season to accept the Kansas job (the franchise never recovered from that), so I'm not exactly broken up over this.

I mean both involve players not actually doing course work for courses. Seems very analogous. Only UNC's is so much worse.

I understand the idea of "kids that had nothing to do with it being penalized" argument and, to a degree, I agree with that. However, when a kid is agreeing to play for Larry Brown, that argument holds no water whatsoever. It should be well known that, if you agree to play for him, there could be violations and penalties.

Dickie V tweeted that Brown should be banned from college coaching for life. At least I think it was him; his dome was mostly covered up by Cal and Magoo's butts.
