In the old Big East, there was a very good chance that you would be seeing one of UCONN, Syracuse or Louisville going on to win the national championship during the course of a season. The new Big East does not have that kind of quality or excitement any more and has lost its national significance. Until someone in the new Big East proves it can win the whole thing (us, Butler, Villanova are the best candidates),the season package has less value for TV or in person. The new Big East has a little time to gain its legs, but only a little. This coming year will be telling.

Let's stop pretending that we were watching the A-10 this season and start acknowledging that we watched a conference that produced 6 tournament teams, a 1 seed, a 4 seed, and 3 6 seeds. Despite the tournament results, it was a very strong conference this year.

Let's be real - we all hate Xavier after last year. You may not be willing to say it out loud yet, you may not have a word for it, but that funny feeling in your stomach about the Mouseketeers? That is budding hate, and it will build. Butler - sure, maybe they aren't "hate-worthy" or "hate-bait" yet, but I am fully prepared to hate anything from Indiana on some principle, maybe just because I hate the boredom of states that never rise above 1000 altitude without even having the benefit of a coastline, but really, if they don't get it together soon and lose to DePaul, doesn't that just make them easier to hate? And Creighton - well, that's my middle name, so I get to bring extra self-loathing to the table - but what is not to hate in a program that rode the coaches son to notoriety, then sucked and still sells out every game because there is nothing better to do in its godforsaken, frozen corner of the world... wait, that almost sounds familiar - but for the lack of a Jimmie B. Jr. (in all likelihood Jimmie B's hot wife is too hot for him, right?) and hideously orange uniforms, Creighton is well on its way to filling that "low life buddy of mine" role.
I mean really, if you can't hate the teams in your own conference, you are just not doing it right!

Except for the t-Shirt comments, this has been a valuable discussion. We all need to come to grips with the new Big East and how it is impacting the Verizon Center experience. No doubt about it that Creighton, Butler, and Xavier, while good programs and definitely the best we could probably come up with just don't generate the excitement and Verizon experience as Syracuse, UCONN, and N.D./Louisville/Pitt. Probably just the East Coast bias. I think over time Butler and Xavier rivalries will become much more intense and maybe will attract more fans to Verizon. But Creighton, in my mind, will always be a ho-hum who cares game. Omaha? Really? I think what made Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, and Uconn games so great was that many of us have friends and/or colleagues who went to these schools plus these schools had great alumni bases in the area. Unfortunately that's not true of the new additions. So et's see what happens with this years great Hoya team. BTW, I developed a big hate for Xavier this year and with a few more face punches by them I may learn to hate them as much as Syracuse. I love comments like these. The "I propose that I wish that the 'old' Big East structure remained in place" position is a productive one and worthy of merit. "Fans" who aren't interested in watching our team play their opponents within the conference are fans of watching other teams play. No need to be snarky. Just stating the obvious. My point about lack of local Butler/Creighton/Xavier alumni base I think s spot on. Reason our rivalries with old BE schools was so intense and filled up the Verizon Center was that those schools were Eastern teams that have tons of D.C. alumni. Sit in the 400 section for those games and you were surrounded by hundreds of Orange, Husky or Panther jerseys. And they weren't students but geezer alums like me. Plus we all have friends from work who attended one of those schools and who were sure to make work life miserable if we lost to their alma maters. So sure let's support the Hoyas and the new BE but let's not be surprised when we can't fill up the Verizon Center for a Creighton, Xavier or Butler game.

Your definition of Old Big East is a little different from mine, since Louisville joined in 2005. Maybe that's just a reflection on me getting to be an old dude.

Omaha is actually a pretty cool place. I've never been to Storrs, but it's so much nicer than Syracuse.
And it's actually pretty nice to have a place that closer to our alumni who don't find it easy to get to DC games.

Never been to Storrs and hope to never find myself in Nebraska. I pity those alumni who find themselves either in or close to it. I have spent a lot of time in Western New York and enjoy Syracuse a lot. But getting back to the point of this discussion, no way Creighton will ever fill the Verizon center or generate the excitement that Syracuse and UCONN did.

I couldn’t get watching the “boys” out of my system and sent to a half a dozen games, two years ago. Last year, I went to the Kansas game and that’s when I blew my top. To see Georgetown University allow the entire team to come out wearing the “I can’t breathe” T-shirts. GU pays III over $3 million a year and he allows this political crap on national TV? Then the team was out-played and out-coached by Kansas. They have seen my last dollar. The GU experience has been replaced by college hockey and women’s volleyball. Holy ****, is this real? Why didn't you stop going to games when the PA started playing all of that hippity hop in the pregame warm ups? How did you even stomach the JTII era?

Be honest. The beginning of the end for you was when the team started coming out to "Here Comes the Hotstepper."

The last three posts add nothing to the topic of discussion (and no, I'm not the admin who made the edits but I would have). Save the personal bickering for somewhere else please.

I had season tickets for 10 years. My donation level went from 150 to 500 to 750 per seat.
I'd have kept them but my job situation changed.
Last year was my first without them and nobody ever called or asked me to stay or asked me why I left. That seemed odd to me.

I guess that Georgetown doesn't have critical size to hire full-time career minded in this area of the athletic department. I have purchased tourney tickets with many schools, as we have not been to the sweet sixteen since Jeff left. I get personal phone call every year from their ticketing agents, asking if I would like seasons or individual game tickets, they also send me emails, asking the same. I get them from CUSE, UK, Marquetre, Cinncy, UCLA, Providence.
Perhaps, they should hire someone who graduated fro their business school.

The last three posts add nothing to the topic of discussion This is patently untrue, as I would buy out the rest of the darn Stonewalls section if we started coming out to "Here Come the Hotstepper" again.
