Why does it matter that he didn't mean to punch him in the face? Like seaweed said, at the very least, he meant to punch him near the chest. He basically even admitted that he acted out of frustration. I'd be pretty Editeded if DSR was laying on the ground, and Gibbs punched him in the face. And, people tried to argue that he only meant to punch him near the face.. I don't think he will get suspended for the season, but I think 2-3 games would make sense. If Gibbs hits him in the chest we're not discussing this, that's why his intent matters imo.. Since he did connect with his head, he should be punished but not for multiple games..

After further research, there's a pretty close parallel from two seasons ago when St. John's was getting blown out late at ND and Sir'Dominic Pointer punched Cameron Biedscheid in the face:
Pointer got an automatic one game from the NCAA for fighting and the BE and SJU both reviewed and declined to go any further. This is much more benign than that.

I think this is different from what you guys are saying because it was a complete cheap shot. That's the part that people are criticizing. It's more akin to pushing someone in the back as they are going up for a dunk.
That was also SJU's next to last game and they suspended him for the final game. Did he play in the BET that year?

Adam Zagoria @adamzagoria 4m4 minutes ago Sterling Gibbs gets a 2-game suspension for hitting Ryan Arcidiacono last night. Will miss. St. John's & Creighton.

A win over Cincinnati would be nice. The Bearcats just lost to Tulane at home.

A win over Cincinnati would be nice. The Bearcats just lost to Tulane at home. Still feels weird watching the annual Xavier/Cincy game and rooting for Xavier. Cincy and Uconn need to come back home.........
