I tend to agree with SF's view of it and it seems like Gibbs really only had one way to go with the publicity as there's very little excuse for the result. Gibbs has never come off to me as a dirty player and it makes more sense that he was trying to punch the ball out as his hand clearly went off of his teammate's head and ended up in RA's face. I'm interested to see the punishment that is levied. If he actually meant to punch RA in the face which, unfortunately, his statements make it appear, there's gotta be a suspension of some sort. If he had said that he was attempting to punch the ball free, he'd be in better shape.
Regardless, Gibbs did the right thing by reaching out to Arcidiacono to apologize personally or, these days, what qualifies as "personally." I feel like there was more intention on Obekpa's part when he threw an elbow to Tyler Wideman's head/neck and I think he only got ejected from that game with no further penalty other than Lavin not starting him. He hasn't missed any games of which I'm aware.

It was clearly intentional but I don't doubt his sincerity in being apologetic because I'm sure he realizes how much of a punk move it was.
He'll be suspended but not for the rest of the season.

There is a Vine on the Seton Hall board with a slightly different angle than was posted here, which shows Gibbs's fist actually hit his teammate, Ajou, in the head before making contact with Arcidiacono's head. Even given the deflection perspective afforded by that vantage point, why would Gibbs be swinging with a closed fist? Intentional? Hard to argue otherwise. Does Willard have the cojones to do anything? We'll see. The Seton Hall board wants Gibbs suspended for a minimum of 2-3 games, if not the rest of the season. The Villanova board wants SHU out of the league (not too much of an over-reaction). Query: Is Seton Hall becoming the DePaul of the east?

Until today Gibbs was regarded as one of the classier SHU players. Having seen the video, I think at worst it was a reckless act with an unintended result. I don't think he was trying to hit him in the face.
There will be a lot of clamor for SHU to pursue Danny Hurley if Willard is fired as expected. Interesting bit of drama if that happens -- Hurley's father reportedly has little love for SHU.
Why is Coastal Carolina/Radford a "game of interest"?

How many games does Gibbs get for that? At least 2 - any more? The number of games SH has before their GU game. Georgetown cures all.

Creighton still finding ways to lose it seems. Was really hoping they'd pull the upset.

Seton Hall seems to be quickly dissolving into a bigger mess by the day. I just don't think Willard has control of the program and that's not a good thing. Willard's recruitment of Whitehead seemed like an opportunity for Seton Hall to do better finally - if they cannot show improvement even with some better recruits it might be time for Seton Hall to go in a different direction.

Ugh Kansas and Creighton both blow opportunities. Frustrating games last night.

If you actually look carefully, he's trying to punch at the ball and his hand deflects off his teammate's head. It looks like he wasn't trying to hit Arcidiacono in the face. As though a clenched fist punch towards the chest of a player cradling the ball would be OK... he got frustrated and lashed out, get over trying to make excuses. As they say, not a basketball play no matter how you slice it.

I mean, when you recall what happened at the end of the Gonzone Regime, what with players getting rung up on false imprisonment charges and such, this doesn't seem all that terrible by comparison.

I can't be the only one who doesn't think the Gibbs play is that bad. I'd be fine with a one-game suspension on this one. After this Saturday they don't play again until the 28th, so they could go the sanctimonious one-game route with an "indefinite suspension" astonishingly lifted next Saturday morning.

It's probably not as bad as it looked, but there will be a ton of scrutiny on the BE to do something more than 1 game. It's just the way it is in today's game.

I'm with you Buckets, I guess this is the "New" Big East.. Smh... Was he way too aggressive given time & score? Of course.. Did he mean to give Arc a good shot? Yup but I don't think he meant to hit him in the face.. As pointed out earlier you can see that his hand glanced off his teammates head on the way up & down.. 1 game is enough in my book..

Why does it matter that he didn't mean to punch him in the face? Like seaweed said, at the very least, he meant to punch him near the chest. He basically even admitted that he acted out of frustration. I'd be pretty Editeded if DSR was laying on the ground, and Gibbs punched him in the face. And, people tried to argue that he only meant to punch him near the face.. I don't think he will get suspended for the season, but I think 2-3 games would make sense.
