in order to execute backdoor cuts in this offense you need bigs that can handle and make that pass. green, monroe, henry and otto could do that very well. we have nobody right now that can.

Lots of insightful points above. However, I think we have to face facts. Our personnel are just not talented enough to go very far in the NCAA tourney. I have been watching a lot of college basketball. While I am no expert, it appears to me that there are numerous teams out there with more talent. We have one elite player at the present time and he is DSR. DSR has been playing out of position and doing that pretty well. He is the only legitimate 3 point threat at the present time. Josh can be an elite player, but he is not much of a rebounder and is slow on defense. Hop is trying his best, but he can't shoot. Our freshmen may very well turn into elite players, but they are not there yet. Considering our personnel, JT3 has done a pretty good job. I just believe that we have to be realistic. The power teams in college basketball are filled with top 25 recruits. Remember that when we reached the final 4, we had two future NBA players in their college prime and a knock down 3 point shooter in Jonathan Wallace.

Openings for cuts come from player and ball movement that forces a defender to turn toward the ball and take his focus off the cutter for an instant. The cut should happen right after a pass into the defense or while a teammate is driving into the defense. Back doors punish ball watchers and reachers. But nobody on this team is a great bounce passer off the dribble and the ball movement is not crisp enough to catch defenders out of position. Some of the freshmen may get there but they are not there yet.

It's more of the growth that we saw during that 4 game streak has regressed into stupid turnovers and easily fixable things like not getting back. That's been the most frustrating thing I don't ever remember a JT3 team this bad in transition defense.
