As others have said, at this point, in the Class of 2017, we are unlikely to get an RCSI top 100 player. While I would prefer higher ranked players, next year's team needs help, and it's only coming from the Class of 2017 or graduate transfers. So we need to be on guys who are under the radar, but who could contribute. Take someone like Wallace, who wasn't a highly ranked recruit but turned into an excellent shooter. Even someone like Pryor - Pryor was by no means a well regarded or recruited player in high school. The only way we get top 100 talent at this point is if guys decommit because of coaching changes, etc. And we should certainly look at those kids, along with any graduate transfers, but we've got to do the best we can at this point. The Class of 2018 is much more significant for the long-term future of the school, but the Class of 2017 could make a big difference too. And, to our benefit, I think guards are more likely to fly under the radar. It's hard for big men to be unknown simply given that there aren't a ton of them. But it happens with guards all the time. Just admit we are doomed if grasping at that scrap pile.

By the way, didn't Henry Sims go to Paul Robeson?

I'm intrigued by Kante, though I am also trying to figure out where he fits. Basically, it seems to me like next year we really need to replace Rodney (the 2, sometimes 3) then add depth at center. In theory, you would have Derrickson at the 4 next year with Akoy spelling him. Then you have Govan who could have Akoy behind him, but we really could use another center. Then, we are now fine at PG with Waters and Mosley, but we need another scoring guard like Rodney. Walker would back up LJ, and Kaleb I suppose could play the 3 or 4. I'm just not sure where Kante fits in that rotation, though I like the idea of hard nosed defensive players. Other than LJ and Jagan there isn't a player on this roster who has earned a guaranteed spot next season. We need players, no matter where they are. Also, we can easily trot out Jagan at the two and LJ at the three with Tremont at the one next season and be fine there. Jagan is going to be a good player, and I think he should be a starter

Whatever happened with Isaiah Whaley? If he can protect the rim and is at least 6'9" I'm interested.....I'm not saying Kante can't play but he looks to be more around 6'5" to me.....

And I can see your point on Jagan. I've been really impressed with him and think with development he could be a really good player. What do you see as Jagan's ceiling? Can he be a scorer similar to DSR? His best contributions this year were his assists. He frequently led the team after games and was sometimes the only player other than LJ to have multiple assists. Behind those two, I agree everyone has to earn it.

DSR was a scoring machine. Hard to start Jagan at SG spot if he can't hit consistently from outside. Not sure we have too many options though.

An offer to an unrated Kante dies not bode well for the talent pool available-- he's also got offers from DePaul and Fordham. If that's what is left and that's what GU recruits among, that's a problem.
His numbers suggest another Rhese Gibson, a hard working but not very effective option that also flew under the radar from NYC.

I would see what shakes loose with coaching changes. I think that is our best option right now for 4 year players. Otherwise, the grad transfer market needs to be attacked by this staff for a sharpshooter from a mid-major. At least we have Pryor's success to use as an example of what a newbie can accomplish in one year in our system.

basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/czech-republic-big-man-receiving-high-major-interestA 6-foot-10 big man that originally hails from Latvia, Blumbergs impressed over the weekend playing with his GB Academy program at the National Prep School Invitational. Sporting a college-ready body and a pretty refined skillset from 20-feet and in, Blumbergs has already picked up major interest as Georgia Tech, Nevada, Grand Canyon, Creighton, Auburn and Seton Hall have begun to stand out.I'll continue to say there are prospects available for 2017, how creative is the staff willing to be to find them is the question.. These are highlights but the kid looks the part.. This kid is still available.. www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1761848-international-star-pursuing-college“I can do everything on the court,” Blumbergs said. “I have worked so much on my shot and dribbling skills this season that I can attack defenders from outside and handle the ball very well even though my size is 6'10.”
“I fell very confident in shooting the ball from the three-point range and taking to the basket also in situations and I really like to compete against the bigs under the basket,” he addedAt this point, Blumbergs doesn’t have any visits scheduled.
“The closest ones planned are with Creighton and Grand Canyon University,” he said. “But I am looking forward to some others.” Auburn, Georgia Tech, Nevada and Seton Hall are also recruiting Blumbergs, according to sources.

It was depressing to watch. SAD!

3 bigs on the PSA squad with HM potential. Yetna Ondigo and Kante. The other 2 have better offers, Kante is the most polished has been the best and most consistent. Yetna high motor kid gets on the glass, Ondigo the biggest and has the most potential.

With this kid and many others, I wonder if there is reciprocal interest in the Hoyas. But we shall see. I expect lots of interesting things on the recruiting front during the next few months.

We can start Jagan at the two because Tremont is going to be able to score and get wherever he wants off the dribble. He will create offense better than any point guard we've had in 20 years. Jagan defends, he does a ton of little things and he can serve as a secondary ball-handler

At the end of the day. Jagan fits with Tremont. If he can be a 35-40 percent 3-point shooter, he can be very effective for us

If Tremont turns out to be the guard we believe he is, the guard rotation will be mostly at the 2, with someone spelling him for 5 to 8 minutes at the 1. He will provide scoring from the 1, and the 2 will not have to fit the shooting guard label. It would be nice, though.
