I would think construction prices are much higher in DC than in Manhattan, KS. Cost of living is much higher in DC, so the wages of the workers are probably that much higher. This is it. Construction costs are much much higher here. Ownership of the land doesn't have anything to do with it and isn't being calculated into the cost of the building. Materials also play a big part in this. To match all the darn carderock stone that is on most of the campus buildings (and thus the OGB will insist on using to match the rest ads a big expense right there I imagine). Puts into perspective how difficult it is to get things done around campus. We're dealing with a lot of obstacles financially. Just happy it's all coming together finally! A couple of additional factors: - In addition to the general higher cost of living in the DC area, the local construction boom has increased the demand for both construction materials and experienced labor, raising their costs
- Aside from the Old Georgetown Board's sometimes exacting preferences for materials, they have also had a reputation for favoring certain architects and design firms, who tend to have a much easier time getting their designs approved. Needless to say, those preferred maestros are typically not the lowest bidder
- Beyond OGB, DC - and Georgetown in particular - just has more levels of required review/approval than other places. There's the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, which much accept OGB's recommendations; the Campus Plan process and any stipulations agreed to therein; all manner of construction permits(potentially requiring signoff by city historic preservation, health, environmental, water, and other agencies); and so on. Preparing the studies, plans, documents, etc. that go into all this takes significant time and money
- As has been mentioned, Georgetown has a small campus and is currently engaged in a number of construction projects simultaneously. This makes necessary a significant amount of planning, coordination, and remediation to ensure that students, faculty, staff, hospital patients, visitors, etc. are able to continue using the campus with minimized disruption and inconvenience. The constraints on less compact campuses - and those with more entry and egress points - are less severe.

As the TAC will include a state of the art practice facility it would natural to have AI donate a large sum (if he has any money left) for the naming rights for the practice court. It would be the AI "YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE, NOT A GAME CENTER.

It would be the AI "YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE, NOT A GAME CENTER. I've said for years that it should be the "Allen Iverson 'We Talkin Bout Practice' Facility." Chris Wright actually got a good laugh out of that at one of the open practices.
