I just got an invitation as well (though I'm in MN and won't be able to attend)--thought it was worth noting though, since the fact I got an invitation means they're sending them to everyone who donated to the IAC, regardless of amount, so anyone that did donate and wants to attend should get an invitation.

There's no way in hell the Healey Student Center is open September 5th. Oh, it'll be open. There just won't be anything open *inside* of it. blog.georgetownvoice.com/2014/08/13/student-center-enters-final-phase-of-construction-before-september-5-opening/Good news Hoyas, construction of the Healy Family Student Center is on target for its September 5 grand opening. The planned pub, however, is only in initial construction phases and is projected for completion by October 31. and Hilltoss, the Corp’s new salad and smoothie bar is slated for November 1.
Vox had the pleasure of seeing the inside of the Center earlier this week. The interior is almost done, with much of the remaining work involving spackling, installing electrical fixtures, and painting.
By August 18, the University is going to have a use and occupancy permit.
“On the 18th, what you’ll see is we’ll start moving furniture in, those kinds of activities, to get ready for the grand opening on the 5th.” Robin Morey, vice president of planning and facilities management said in an interview with Vox. “On the outside you’ll see a lot of work going on.”

That's definitely the kind of news I think a lot have been waiting to hear. A larger named/amount donation like this. Perhaps this gets some of the on the fence larger donors to open their pocket books too. Cheers to the Ewing's and the Falks
Anyone know where the university now stands in the total amount raised?

Yes, terrific stuff. Wonder if Falk put up the majority of the funding here, because the "partners in giving" and other language in the press release suggests it. Ewing never made Melo-sized scratch, but I like that this tops the $3M he put up at Cuse, which is one of the biggest amounts a contemporary athlete put up for basketball facilities in recent memory...

The link also has a really nice collection of photos from G'town/Cuse games over the past 30 years. And some not unexpected classy comments from Cuse fans....

Via e-mail just received:
On their birthday, many people expect to receive gifts. On Thursday, Aug. 28, former Georgetown University men’s basketball All-American Jeff Green C’12, who turns 28-years-old today, announced that he will make a $1 million gift to the athletics department for the John R. Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletics Center.
The building is named in honor of Hall of Fame Men’s Basketball Coach John Thompson Jr., who guided the Hoyas for 27 years and influenced generations both on and off the hardwood. As a junior, Green led Georgetown to the Final Four in 2007 and was selected with the No. 5 pick in the National Basketball Association Draft. Determined to finish his degree, Green continued attending classes during the offseason. He earned his degree in English, with a minor in theology, from Georgetown in 2012. “I’m very fortunate to be in a position to give back to the University and to the program that has done so much for me,” Green said. “The environment created by Coach (John) Thompson III and his staff helped shape me both academically and athletically. Georgetown and Georgetown Basketball is at my core and is part of who I am. “Georgetown athletes are going to get the chance to work and develop in a world-class, state-of-the-art facility. The Thompson Athletics Center will be the best in the country.” A groundbreaking ceremony for the Thompson Athletics Center is scheduled for September 12, 2014. Green’s contribution is part of the $62 million project that will be completely supported through philanthropy.

This touches my heart. Go Jeff Green (and Jeff Green's mom, who of course helped her son to become this wonderful man).
