Like everyone new but it became official today that Andrew Bogut enterred into the NBA draft. But, what really surprised me today was our buds over at GW lost 2 pretty good players to the nba. Nana Mensah-Bonsu and Mike Hall bother juniors both forsaw their last year of NCAA eligibility and enterred into the NBA draft. I was not even sure they would be able to make the draft next year but a year early. What were they thinking

If they hired agents, they are gone. If they didn't, they can pull out once the buzz wears off, lest they turn into the Stinka Dares of this year's draft.

It doesn't mean they are technically in the draft. Bogut is pretty much certain. Our friends at GW probably want to test the waters, but won't hire an agent. My guess is they are both back next year.
Pops has a bigger chance with his athleticism, but they should both be back.

Yes, Yinka is dead.
Because theyre juniors it doesnt hurt Pops and Hall to enter the draft, go to some workouts, see what the word is.... If they get a guarantee in the first round (not likely IMO) they'll hire an agent, if not theyll head back for their last year of eligibility.
I'm hoping some guys from our division do the same, only they get the lotto guarantee and decide to hire an agent (Boone and Gay come to mind).

Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Mike Hall are, in fact, just testing the waters and have not hired agents. They can still pull back if they want if they don't get enough good news about their prospects.

Ike Diogu has also declared, but will not hire an agent. This guy can really play, but I fear he may be another undersized power forward, like Simien and Sean May.

With us talking about the players going to the draft in this thread, do any of you guys think Pitino will go to the NBA if he wins the championship this year? (L.A., N.Y., Minnesota, Cleveland, Dallas?)

Probably just hot air, but they were basically saying that he wants to prove he isn't a horrible NBA coach.

(L.A., N.Y., Minnesota, Cleveland, Dallas?) No way. He failed miserably on the only NBA stage that matters to him - the Celtics. He had complete control and crashed and burned. I would be amazed if he was offered a NBA job again. He is, like Pete Carroll in football, made to be a college coach.

Difficult for him to do when hes proven that he IS a pretty horrible NBA coach. The NBA is just different. The style of play is completely different, and you have to win with the pieces you've got, which are of course hampered by the salary cap, the draft order, and all that. Being a good recruiter doesnt help one iota, because the games all about money and the salary cap limits you. Thats why I think Coach K made a good move not leaving Duke. He only wouldve gotten pounded on in the NBA. Not to say hes not a good coach, because he is, but hes also got the most talented squad year in and year out at Duke, which is no guarantee in the NBA, not to mention the style of play is completely different there.

BTW, may I just say I think Villanueva is a moron. He hasn't really dominated the NCAA level, and I think his game needs at least one more year of seasoning.
Ricky is happy at L'Ville, he'll stay there. Not to worry. He now knows the difference, from everything I've heard him say on the topic.

YB I dont think Villanueva is a moron at all. Yes he does have some flaws in his game, but look at Andre Iguodala for the 76er's. He came out with some flaws in his game and he never dominated really, but he showed potential, now he is one of the best rookies in the NBA this year. Also, Charlie's family lives in Brooklyn so I think he wants to move them out of their and give them a good surrounding. But, maybe I am just looking on the brighter side of things here with seeing a UCONN player leave early for the draft again. Better for Jeff and Roy.

He was their star down the stretch, which is probably the reason why he decided to go pro.

If he has the work ethic and talent to play in the NBA: 1. By staying in school, he remains a high lottery pick 2. By jumping, he is one year closer to really big money and avoids injury risks. If he doesn't: 1. By staying in school, he risks exposing himself as a bust before getting drafted 2. By jumping, he goes in the lottery, gets his money, and eventually busts. But he gets paid. There's only three reasons to stay in school: 1. You value the education or social aspects of college 2. You can develop more in college than the pros 3. You can raise your draft standing I'm skeptical of No. 2.

TBird41's post accidentally deleted by moderator McQ The Celtics job was Pitino's second NBA head coaching job: Before his stint at Kentucky, Pitino was head coach of the New York Knicks for two seasons. In his initial year there in 1987-88, the Knicks improved by 14 victories and made the NBA Playoffs for the first time in four seasons. The Knicks won 52 games in 1988-89 and swept the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
