Kelsey Swenson (Idaho to Georgetown) Earlier this month, Georgetown announced that they have signed Kelsey Swenson, a graduate transfer, from the University of Idaho. According to TFRRS, she is expected to hold one season of indoor track eligibility, one season of cross country eligibility and potentially multiple seasons of outdoor track eligibility. The Georgetown women are coming off of one of their better cross country seasons in program history where they placed 10th overall at the NCAA XC Championships.
The soon-to-be Hoya doesn't necessarily need to be a low-stick star like Grace Jensen was. All Swenson needs to do is to limit any excessive scoring and offer some lineup stability. But after the season that she had in 2022, there may be a reality where Swenson does evolve into a true low-stick, capitalizing on the success that she had throughout last fall.
And if that happens, then it won't take much for the Georgetown women to return to the same level of competitiveness that we saw from them just five months ago.

Two more high school boys broke four minutes in the mile on Thursday, June 1, 2023, becoming the 19th and 20th names added to the historic list. At the Hoka Festival of Miles in St. Louis, Tinoda Matsatsa and Jackson Heidesch ran 3:57.21 and 3:57.54, respectively.
Simeon Birnbaum, already on the sub-4:00 list for his feat at last year’s Brooks PR, won the race in 3:56.14, claiming the fourth all-time fastest spot on the list, and Rocky Hansen put himself out there again, in 3:56.76, after his first sub-4:00 performance in April.
Matsatsa also made history as the first Black high school boy to ever go sub-4:00 in the mile. He ran a personal best of 4:05.68 a little over a month ago at the Virginia High Performance Meet, and is still new to the sport, having transitioned to running from soccer a few years into his high school career.
In a post-race interview, the Potomac, Maryland senior told Citius Mag, "Everything I've done up until this point has been leading up until today... From my first mile race running 4:15 indoors to now—my last (HS) mile."
In the fall, Matsatsa will join Georgetown’s distance program, and Heidesch is headed to Duke.

From letsrun.com
South Dakota’s Simeon Birnbaum, the Oregon signee who went from 4:07 to 3:59 last year at the Brooks meet, led the way. The Arcadia 3200 record holder (8:34.10) took the lead just after the bell and went on to win convincingly in 3:57.53 after a 57.68 last lap. North Carolina’s Rocky Hansen, a Wake Forest signee, was second in 3:58.23 (previous PB was 3:59.56). Maryland’s Tinoda Matsatsa, a Georgetown commit who won New Balance indoors in the 800 in 1:48.27, but only had a 4:05.68 mile PB, was third in 3:58.70. He also made history as the first black US high schooler to break 4. Iowa’s Jackson Heidesch, a Duke signee who had a 4:02 PB coming in, was fourth in 3:59.08.

The Stride Report: Let's chat about college. You recently committed to Georgetown. Talk a little bit about why you chose the Hoyas. What did they have that others school didn't?
Tinoda Matsatsa: I chose Georgetown because they have an amazing history of being a great mid-distance program. The schools I was looking at had that as well, but Georgetown also has stellar education. That’s what separated them from all of the other schools.

Every time Tinoda races, I get more excited about him. Seems like a wonderful student athlete.
