He was in a boot apparently but I hear it's just precautionary and not serious.

Reggie played today and looked fine. He hit something like 4-8 threes and scored about 16 points.

"Kansas State transfer guard Angel Rodriguez hasn't applied for his waiver to play immediately for Miami yet, according to a Hurricanes' spokesperson. Rodriguez is expected to do so after football season starts when the NCAA waiver office can focus on the winter sports. The NCAA traditionally gets backlogged at this time of year in clearing players for the fall sports. "
So like I said earlier we likely won't hear about Josh's eligibility until October at the earliest.

Remember the days when Josh Smith getting 3 semesters of eligibility was a mere formality among some of HoyaTalk's finest? Those were the days.

Dude that makes no sense. Just cause the time period for winter sports to be evaluated is later does not change how they're going to evaluate his case....

Smith's challenge is staying on-court once he makes it espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/9550367/college-basketballSmith said he weighed 350 pounds when he arrived at Georgetown last winter after transferring from UCLA. He's around 310 now and, at 6-foot-10, would like to play at 290. These are numbers he has set for himself -- with no one's instruction. There is no correct weight compared to height in sports. Some can move quickly at a certain weight, some cannot. Interesting quotes: "I've taken the approach that let's not talk about numbers," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "I've told him, 'Let's get to a point where you can stay on the court for two minutes, then stretch it to five and then five to nine and then nine to 15.' Some people can play at 200, some at 250, some above 3 and some can't play above 150. He's got to get to a point where he can stay on the court for an extended period of time." "I had a bad rap at UCLA because I didn't eat breakfast, I didn't eat lunch. I would wait until after practice and workouts and then think I had to eat X amount of calories," Smith said. "I was so hungry then. I thought it was the right way and it wasn't. I've worked with a dietitian here since I got here in January. I'm dealing with portions, eating vegetables and fruit and drinking Powerade Zero with less calories. I wouldn't eat all day and then try to eat 3000 calories at night. Now I'm eating them with small meals throughout the day. "One thing I learned from Roy is that I've got to put the work in," Smith said. "I've got to be in the gym as much as possible and use the coaches as resources and do everything I can to be successful so I can be in his shoes one day. He keeps telling me my body is my strength. He said use your body, that's your weapon."

Really good article. 40 pounds since winter is pretty damn good.

Not to quibble (and this is a good piece, and thank you again Mr. Hibbert!), but didn't Rothstein have him at 385 when he got here, and then down to 358?
In any case, hopefully the repeated reinforcement and new habits will get him where he needs to be.
Another quote--
"He said he has applied for a waiver to play immediately and skip the second semester portion of his year in residence. Thompson confirmed the waiver has been sent into the NCAA.
"My argument is that I only played in six games so why should I lose a whole year?" Smith said. "We've done everything we can now. We're waiting for the NCAA.""

That's the first reference I've heard to Smith asking for a waiver to play at the beginning of the season. My guess is that they would have applied for both that waiver, and also eligible for 2014-2015. If Smith hadn't played those 6 games, he would have been immediately eligible this year, and had next season eligible, too.

There were rumors/speculation of it, but I believe that is the first publication of it. Just very glad to see that Josh understands that he will determine how far he will go, and no one else. Trying not to daydream about Josh back door alley oops to Trawick and Bowen.

He left in the first half of his Junior year. I read this as him definitely being eligible for the 14-15 season, and then only unknown being if he'll get the first half of this upcoming season.
