Here is hoping that Creighton, Xavier & Butler will travel well. We need opposing fans to make Verizon feel full and I would even propose paying for a curtain to shut off the 400's. All told, I think the schedule is OK considering the first year scheduling limitations. We could really use a good pre-January home/home OOC in addition to Kansas though to make the schedule a bit more fun for fans.

10-3 OOC prediction, 13-5 in conference. 23-8 overall, #2 seed in BET, #6 seed in NCAA.

And.... coupled with the demise of Fox Soccer Channel, I can officially cancel my DirecTV sports pack - all games on FS1, CBS, ESPN, ESPNU, CBSSN with the possible exception of Lipscomb. As a somewhat reluctant cable customer (our condo association doesn't allow installation of DirecTV dishes), I am also liking the TV schedule. I doubt I will miss squinting at a computer monitor feed for games carried on MASN/WatchESPN. Almost all of Georgetown's games will be available to me on my television and in HD this year. That's true for both cable and DirecTV customers. If I were a fan of NC State or Temple, I'd still be spending a lot of time squinting at a computer feed, or even catching the game on the radio.

As we usually end up having to play the first game of these premium OOC series away (this year KU), it's probably best not to start another one until next year so we can at least count on one prime home game each year. Throw in the resumption of the Syracuse series and maybe we'll end up with 2 premium games each year or at least every other year

Throw in the resumption of the Syracuse series and maybe we'll end up with 2 premium games each year or at least every other year Georgetown does not need a game with Syracuse or any of the bad actors from Disney and their ACC division. Let them go. If you want a pair of non-conference series to build up the home schedule, go with Maryland and Connecticut in alternate years, with 2-for-1 series with George Mason and Old Dominion.

I agree with DFW. Partner with old BE foes Connecticut, Cincy, Temple or even a Memphis would do.

Maryland and UConn (Disney B10 division and AAC division, respectively) are okay, but Syracuse isn't? Check this year's schedule. Which network is televising (edit: almost) every single one of our big non-conference games? Like it or not, ESPN influences the creation of the college basketball schedule and it is a good thing for Georgetown to have a positive relationship with ESPN going forward if it wants to continue to schedule big programs between November and January. If ESPN says "Syracuse is interested in playing Georgetown at MSG in a prime television spot," I seriously doubt we tell Bristol to stuff it.

When your biggest non-conference home opponent was supposed to be UTEP and that falls through, I think the adage about beggars and choosers applies.

I mentioned 'Cuse because III was recently quoted as saying we will be playing them again - UCONN and MD would be fine - the point is you want any series to have the home games in the years the other series have away games

I back the move of the Catholic seven to control their own destiny, it will be a question of the execution of a plan, which they have not developed yet. That said, I hope that their TV deal is worth more than what they got from the Old BE, because attendance will suffer during the transition. The scalpers still have the CAPs to make a living.

I seriously hope that scalpers' ability to make a living is an extremely minor consideration as the league plots its future.

Is this post from five months ago? The details of the TV deal have been available for a long time now. It's a good deal for us - best we could have hoped for. And more than it was previously.

From the front page:
The Hoyas will play six opponents at Verizon Center prior to Big East play:
Wright State (22-13 in 2012-13, RPI 128) Lipscomb (11-18 in 2012-13, RPI 238) High Point (15-14 in 2012-13, RPI 248) Colgate (11-21 in 2012-13, RPI 258) Elon (19-12 in 2012-13, RPI 181) Florida International (18-14 in 2012-13, RPI 116)
This home OOC schedule is actual in general an improvement on the level of the cupcakes we're bringing in. only one 250+ rpi team and barely at that no 300+ RPI teams. Yes there's no big home OOC game, but we brought the bottom up considerably.
Last year: Duquense: 2011-2012 RPI 111; 2012-2013 RPI 231 Liberty: 2011-2012 RPI 283; 2012-2013 RPI 290 Mt.St. Mary's: 2011-2012 RPI: 291; 2012-2013 RPI 125 Towson: 2011-2012 RPI 311; 2012-2013 RPI 154 Longwood: 2011-2012 RPI 333; 2012-2013 RPI 333 Western Carolina: 2011-2012 RPI 220 2012-2013 RPI 245 American: 2011-2012 RPI 153 2012-2013 RPI 278
So at this time last year we had 4 teams with a worse RPI than the worst RPI team we play this year.
comparing how good the teams actually turned out to be last year compared to how good the teams we play this year were last year we still come out ahead
FIU Mt.St. Mary's Wright State Towson Elon Duquesne Lipscomb High Point Western Carolina Colgate American Liberty Longwood

HSB, that is a wildly optimistic take on things. The key is there is no Memphis, Illinois, temple, or Duke from years past that provided the one marquee home OOC game. That is all anybody reasonably expects. Kansas will fill that hole and I think you could argue we now need another one of these to add to the schedule.

Also HSB, I know that ESPN scheduled it rather than us, and we're all collectively trying to forget it happened, but Georgetown did play Tennessee at home last season. Even with Tennessee, most folks panned the home OOC schedule when it was released last season too, and with good reason IMO. This one's even worse.
Pretty simple metric: pick which OOC home game in a given season you think is the most interesting. Some years we've had Duke, some years we've had Memphis. Last year was Tennessee, which was meh. This year it's FIU, which is by my count at best the 7th most interesting opponent from Florida.
I've argued in past years actually that it makes more sense to consider the schedule as a whole when considering bang for the buck--Big East games are the sexy ones anyhow. So pick a Top 5 most interesting games from any year's schedule and compare. I love our Catholic brethren and all, but when Villanova or Marquette are battling it our for the 1 spot, and St. John's might be #5.....yeah I'll volunteer to call Boeheim or Mark Turgeon myself.

As a former Knicks fan, I almost wish Isiah was still coaching FIU to at least make that game interesting. Pitino Jr. doesn't.
